Racism towards black characters in GTAO?

Okay, so before I make this topic, I feel like a few things need to be said because of the seemingly controversial nature of the subject. First off, I in no way encourage or condone racism both on or offline, in any way, shape, or form. In fact, I am staunchly against racism in all of its forms when and wherever it comes up. Second, these are merely observations that I have come across in my short time playing as an African-American character, and do not necessarily represent everyone's experiences equally. And third, I think it's important to address racial issues rather than acting like they don't exist, because the only way we can overcome our differences is with compassion, sensitivity, and kindness. Having said all of this, I'm hoping that people are receptive to what I'm about to say and don't simply shrug it off as business as usual. These are real problems, with a real impact, that I feel we as a community need to address. Here's the issue:

 

I just created a new character to start earning all of the vehicles, weapons, etc. back again from the ground up, and accidentally ended up creating a black character. I dressed him up nicely, with a sharp black/white suit and a nice parted haircut. But when it came time for me to mess around in free roam, I noticed something was very different.

 

All of a sudden, people were going out of their way to make sure I couldn't have a good time. From sending crews to gang up on me, to repeatedly sticky bombing me, even simple rude things like driving by and giving me the finger. One white character even set me on fire while I was afk with the gas can, and then using that same gas can lit my CORPSE on fire. I couldn't deliver any of Simeon's vehicles without somebody killing me before I could reach his garage. Right before I had had enough and was about to log out and use my white character, I get a text message from someone threatening to tie me to the back of his Sandking and drag me around the city. I almost threw up.

 

So, my question is, does racism really exist in GTAO, and what sort of things can we do to make sure these sorts of things don't happen?

In any logical form ofcourse there racism in GTA:O. Its player base reflects society and there racists in society. Now if you are actually running into racism online or if it simply a coincidence is another subject all together.

I dont know anyone who has had any issues personally but i do remember reading some forum comments about racists in the biker community in game.

It's basically white dot racism. The assholes can't even see what skin tone your character has, or what a nice suit he's wearing, when all they see is a white dot on the map that they want to grief. By the time they get close enough (if they even do get that close) you're already dead.

Yes, racism does exist in GTA Online, that's a definite yes. As for what you can do about those kind of things, nothing really. People will always have their opinions about a certain race and will dislike that race for their respectable reasons and such.

Just did a search for racist crews.. Skinheads, 14 88, Aryan Brotherhood.. I did find several crews but none with a lot of members.

it aint cause youre black, all character races suffer the same fate, lol! welcome to GTA online. I suggest you learn some skills to fight back and join a crew for help. They dont care what color your dot is either, so dont get worried about being red thinking it makes you a target, no one cares.

Yes, but it was locked almost immediately because the mods thought I was trying to be racist, which I'm not. Sweeping this issue under the rug does a major disservice to all the black people who have to go through this sort of thing every day. They deserve justice just like anybody else.

2.) There is nothing a member of this forum or even the administrator can do about it (this is a third-party forum).

3.) There is nothing even R* can do about it.

to be honest ive found that the black people are by far more sh*t talkin racists than anyone else playing this game, lol! I also play a black character and have never encountered any white people who specifically target me for being black but when im whoopin their asses they will sometimes make racist comments, but mostly its dumb little kids doing it cause they think they are internet tough guys and ive not seen many older people doing so, and never to the extreme nature you claim and actively seeking out black players who havnt done anything to them at all.
