Eventually, but it will in a long time.

As others have said, the PS3 servers will peter out eventually, but it's not going to be a quick process given that migration over to next gen isn't exactly sizeable right now..

In fact, one reason why GTA V probably did so well is that it came out at the end of the console's life cycle at a time when the actual console cost was pretty low.. (I myself was one of these people that literally bought their PS3 for GTA V...)..

It's a bit like when the playstation 2 came out at first, every man and his dog suddenly had a PS1 and that's when you got reams of cheap and kiddy-ish games for it as it was seen more of a kid's console in comparison to the PS2...

They better give us the stun gun online, but Nerf it so its not a troll weapon! My favorite weapon in the whole game!

I already see a decline in the activity during the past couple of months.

A lot of guys we used to play daily with are reluctant to invest more time in creating new content which will not be transferred over.

Also the ongoing frequent connection issues in GTAO force a lot of people to put down the last gen version and simply wait for the Xbox One version.

I believe GTAO on Xb360/PS3 will be active to some extent especially in the next 3-4 months (until some guys buy the new console or gaming PC).

Unfortunately, after that "transition period" there will be mostly some kids & trolls left on last gen. All the cool guys will be on current gen by Feb-March next year.

It won't die out right away. Most people still don't have next gen consoles. I give it another 3 years before it starts dying out.

Whisful thinking. It likely dies out within a year, possibly even within a few months. I do think that for the first few months old-gen will still be more crowdy. I would not be suprised that in the first week of release the next-gen servers are notably empty. Most people are probably not in a hurry to switch over.

^^^^ Most people without ps4/xb1's you mean surely.

Anyone who has a next gen system is likely going to get a copy.

GTA 4 didn't die when GTA 5 came out.

The modders will always stay behind in the old games to keep them alive. Theses games kinda like an infected zombie that will continue to mutate into an horrible monster.

Are you thinking New Gen as in a PS5? Or are you considering current Gen as in PS4 as the New Gen? New Gen as in a PS5 will of course have GTA V/ Online as a dead game. By then a whole new GTA game should be out with way better stuff. When the Current Gen PS4 version come's out. The old Gen PS3 version isn't going to die out so fast. Not all of us have the money to go rush out and buy a new console just to play GTA Online.

WIth GTA 5 and Online coming out to the Xbox One/PS4 this November, there will be players who will migrate to the new servers. But, what will happen to the current servers on the 360/PS3? Will they die out? How long do you think til the old-gen servers become extinct?

No, it was still run for at least 5 years maybe more if it starts to stand out more. C&C Renegade was made in 2003 and today the servers were completely full.

I wouldn't say so. The game's been out for a little over a year. If people are still playing Call of Duty, I'm sure there'll still be people playing this game.

That's because GTA 4 never had an old-gen vs new-gen version. The OP is talking about whether the old-gen version of GTA 5 will die out due to the new-gen taking over, which is what definitely will happen long before GTA 6 comes out.

This gta4 is still running argument is entirely a false premise with no relevance.

Gta4 did not re release on a new and improved system.

Therefore the comparison is invalid.

If you want to make this argument you would need a game similar to gta that released online on one system or generation of systems and then after over a year was remastered/re-released/ported to a new system/generation to make a valid comparison.

Gta4 did not have anything like this happening in its existence.

no one whos playing this game on ps3/xb360 right now is gonna be playing it in 6 months from now unless they are a broke modder, guaranteed. anyone who likes the game will move to the newer better consoles and anyone who cant afford one will get sick of this game and quit, cause they wont be getting any new content beyond possibly new clothes/cars/guns and not likely to get anything good like actual new contact missions, of which after a year weve gotten like 5 of them?

Sure, because everyone is going to rush out and buy a PS4/One to play a prettier version of the same old game they've been playing for over a year...and everyone who doesn't is a "broke-ass", huh?

...because everyone HAS to buy it on release day with a new console to experience the AWESOMENESS of the same exact game!!!

I'd say it's a fair argument. GTA5 is basically a new improved version of GTA4, except the differences are more obvious. There isn't a huge difference between the new and old gen GTA5's. The small differences (framerate, render distance, etc) do matter, but not as much as an entirely new game. There's a 5 year gap between the two games, so if GTA4 is still going strong, GTA5 on the PS3/360 will as well.

Not gonna lie I got my ps4 played some games and got used to it, then after a few weeks I turned on my ps3 and could not play it for more than 10 minutes lol the controller feels weird and there is a big difference in graphics... but anyway this is what's going to happen to these last gen consoles, not immediately but within maybe within 2 years

i'm not planning on buying a ps4. I've put quite a lot of my free time into my gta online account and i'm not going to spend $560 for a ps4 console and the new gta ps4 game. GTA Online is not going anywhere for a long time, espically with all the time and effort rockstar put into this game.

When New-Gen Grand Theft Auto: V's inception for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One apparatuses commences on the 18th of November, there will certainly still be a volume of participants who partake in Last-Gen Grand Theft Auto: Online. :) For those who do not yet elect to make the transition to the Next-Gen portal of gaming.

However, that volume will slowly but surely begin to progressively dissipate overtime.

It is imperative to acknowledge that New-Gen Grand Theft Auto: Online will assess the prerequisite of an accessibility fee, per Xbox Live as well as Playstation Plus.

Albeit that truth, the raw experience and the depth of the enhanced facilitation that will be encompassed within the new version of Grand Theft Auto: Online is going to be so inexplicably compelling, chiefly with the amenity of the First-Person driving mode. I cannot accentuate on that tidbit enough. :)

All of the nuances present in the new Single Player mode that are going to prominently and credulously beautify those escapades and just the simple animations that the protagonists / NPCs exhibit, et cetera, will ripple right through the revamped framework of Grand Theft Auto: Online and even possibly quell the audacious inclination to partake in acrimonious actions. :) It would be surreal at most.

By my very humble postulation, I submit this presumption.

When November 18th is upon us and GTA Forums members / players, jubilantly / giddily / excitably insert that definitive disc, undergo the extended installation process and proceed to delve into Grand Theft Auto: Online, I think that players are going to be so diverted by everything. :) They are going to set exploration and New-Gen scavenging as a reigning precedent and seek out the multiplicities of every single asset that Rockstar vigorously allotted time to enhance.

Shortly thereafter upon detection of their discoveries, players will triumphantly bellow everything and anything star-studded that struck them with astonishment into their headsets, definitely with the new vehicle interiors and the functionality of the dashboards. I can just foreshadow now as to how the extent of the statements are going to resonate, something to effect of the following:

1. 'Wow, bro, get this, okay; I am in my car right, and then I'm like what the? These like, assorted light symbols just popped on the tach! They're green and yellow!'

2. 'Oh. my. God! Those trees look so... like a real tree! Those textures.'

3. 'Yeaa, Rockstar! First-Person driving! Woooo-hooo-hooo! What?!'

4. 'I'm cruisin' the Vinewood strip, solo right now, and wow... the lights are so alive now! On the billboards, that big 'Sprunk' bottle sign.'

With my emphatic and obvious excitement aside, Last-Gen Grand Theft Auto: Online will definitely still be active, and whichever way you put it, New-Gen Grand Theft Auto: V / Online are going to be amazing experiences for all demographics. Without any question in my mind. :^:

I am looking forward to being blown away with the many of you, on November 18th. :)

Let me just say this, i just bought another copy of COD4: Modern Warfare today and, I've been getting full lobby games. I highly doubt GTAO will die on PS3/360 for many years to come.

I think in a few years, the servers on PS3/Xbox 360 begin to choke, but it leaves me plenty of time to buy a Playstation 4 with GTA V too! I'm just waiting to see the comments of people who have taken the game on next-gen, so I'll see if it's worth buying the game for the second time!

Let's be honest, we already have a lot of luck that old-gen consoles in 2006 can run with GTA V especially with the DLC that Rockstar added! But the game takes too much, I understand that Rockstar has decided to release a next-gen version! But what makes me furious is that they we announced a release PS4/XOne late, but they could have to announce a next-gen version at the beginning!

assuming I get it on PS4, I probably won't transfer my account for a while. I'll just play online on PS3 and SP on PS4 until I'm absolutely sure on what gets transferred and also to make sure there are no bugs where I could lose stuff. I really don't trust Rockstar with my character's data, especially not since rank resets and other issues have been happening again (see their support forum).

I'll give it about 6 months after the current gen (yes gentleman, PS4 and Xbox one are CURRENT GEN, not next gen. You are all playing on old-gen now) releases before R* stops caring and it turns into a hack infested hell hole like GTA IV did in it's later years.

Gta4 is still going strong on its generation of systems because thats the only choice.

Gta5 players will have two choices of generations to play on.

Op asked if last gen will dwindle. In the context of that question it makes no sense to compare gta4 to 5. Theres no comparable context besides its also gta.

When PS4 (unsure about XB1) releases more interesting games throughout its time and PS3 stops releasing games/games people would wanted on PS3 I'm sure all PS gamers will (maybe slowly) upgrade from PS3. GTA V remastered for PS4 I am not interested in the purchase because I already have the game on my PS3 (and not yet purchased in full my PS4 from gameshop) and it's not because I GTA V on PS3 is considered a beta from some gamers but basically because what I said, "I already have the game".

Few new: cars, planes, boats, clothes, SP missions/SP cut scenes added, (unconfirmed but spoken about) interiors, game color enhancement, new weather moulds, more NPC vehicle driven on the roads/highways and new added wildlife is not really a selling point for me on the GTA V remastered for PS4. Not speaking for other gamers or saying for anyone to not buy/if they buy it they idiots GTA V (for PS4) because it's up to the gamer if they want it or not. This is what might have the swing set changed in PS3 Online dying out or not because maybe some PS4 owners that get GTA V won't have many crew members yet transfered onto PS4 yet or want to purchase GTA V all over again. Most (PS4) players might continue playing there PS3 GTA V Online (if they can with this player transfer system I am unsure if that means your PS3 character gets removed from the slot and only PS4 accessible to rank up and etc) but they might hang onto PS3 GTA V online longer, keeping it more quite on PS4 until months, year or years to come when PS3 starts to stop releasing games or there version of games that come out on both consoles (PS3/4). Who knows, I might end up getting GTA V on PS4 in year 2067... O.o , just to own a pet dog...named..Steak to play with Chop.
