Will old-gen multiplayer die out when new-gen GTA 5 come out?

I am just guesstimating, i couldnt find actual numbers for current amount of people who play gta online cause its peer to peer and there arent any actual game servers people play on that can track such things. i would think the cloud servers for save data could do so but i wasnt able to find any info on it, but rest assured its nowhere f*cking close to 35 million. I get put in lobbies with lots of the same people all the time, and they arent my friends or crew, thats cause there isnt very many people playing this game online. Id guess around 25000 worldwide maybe? if that. look at battlefield 4, they sold 7 million copies and less than 200,000 still play it, lol! Most people bought gta5 for the single player and never play it online.

i dont have trouble finding people either, and i can play against austrialians without lag but americans will lag, its definitely not internet speed/connection related less than about 300 ping then, cause thats why i get to aussieland which is about as far away from me in the top middle of the USA. hard to tell though, so many f*cking noob ass no skill cheaters you never know if they are doing something on purpose to cause it or if they are just dumb and leave torrents running or if they just have a slow connection less than 768K thats getting overloaded, cause 768K connection should have zero lag if the ping is good and youre only using it for the game. More players increases the effects, seems to be more sh*tty netcode or hardware limitations and it just cant keep up.

WIth GTA 5 and Online coming out to the Xbox One/PS4 this November, there will be players who will migrate to the new servers. But, what will happen to the current servers on the 360/PS3? Will they die out? How long do you think til the old-gen servers become extinct?

The operating status of seventh gen GTA V Online after the eighth gen versions release is not a concern, but instead probably the lack of "compatible" future DLC.

 

That is to say, the only thing that might happen is that there will be no new mission x DLC for ps3/360, but it'll instead be exclusive to XONE/PS4 versions.

And that will probably continue to be the pattern at some point.

 

Online will not "die out". It'll be discontinued before thats allowed to happen, which will be a very long time from now.

oh but i do son. How long have you been playing it? What do you do in the game when you play? Ive been playing since release and been through about 10 crews cause most people get bored and quit this game after a month or two. Only ONE guy who played at release still plays, and he is quitting to go to ps4 soon. I see a lot more lower lvl players than players at my level. My GTA crews and friendslist is like a revolving door and no one stays on it for long. I think youll find the number of players like myself who started at release and still play is quite low and mostly play deathmatches or races or kill each other in free mode cause there aint sh*t else fun to do for us anymore cause weve played every mission 90000 times and explored everything. the amount of new stuff we get per update provides about a weeks worth of entertainment at most, aint no motherf*cker loggin in just to drive around in his surfer van anymore, and thats a fact jack! Well maybe one stoner might be, but out of 35 million people we can safely say hes insignificant and doesnt count towards the point im trying to make, lol

Will be interesting to see how it changes. I'll need characters on both platforms, so I can enjoy the improved foliage and cats, but still be able to flick back to 360 to play with the mrs (I'm not buying two Xbones).

yea my one remaining original friend from the start doesnt play very often either, cause if you dont like pvp combat or racing theres not much else to do that you havent done 1000 times already, which is why i made my original statement. without substantial new content there is no long term replayability, and considering after a year we havent had any substantial content its not likely we will get any in the future, until a purchasable pack such as the ballad of gay tony and the lost and the damned perhaps, its quite likely i think, even though the game runs like sh*t in multiplayer the single player story mode is much more playable, but nothing to do without new missions, lol!

there were 32.5 million copies of GTA V sold on ps3/360 as of February.

 

total next gen consoles sold to date is a bit over 15.5 million^ . (*10 million ps4 sales to date, 5 million xb1 sales up till april, i couldn't find any more up to date xb1 sales figures)

 

It's going to take a LONG time for next gen GTA to outsell current gen, if it ever does (which i doubt)

IMO people will start moving over the next gen en masse over the next few months. Up to now there hasn't been a single next gen game that I wanted to play. In fact not one existing XBONE/PS4 game would make the top 50 PS3/360.

 

Over the next few months though, next gen finally has games coming out that the majority are going to want to play, and we've already seen the last wave of AAA releases for PS3/360.

 

I believe fans of GTAO will want the next gen version to maximise their experience. I have no issues with buying it again. I've more than got my money's worth out of the 360 version and I know damn well I will get my money's worth on XBONE.

 

This is my own opinion and not based on anything, but I also believe GTAO is an ongoing project which will continue to grow, develop and expand in the future, possibly even with new cities and suchlike, and I just can't see that sort of thing being implemented in the PS3/360 versions once the new version is up and running.

Yeah. I played MW3 the other day, I like it. It's from 2011, I think. Two CoD games have been released since then and there was over 25 thousand players online. You know, it tells you on the menu. And that just in the hour or so I was playing, so only a snapshot. GTAO old gen must have at least couple of years.

I would imagine that most gamers will have upgraded to a PS4/XB1 by the end of next year and will naturally want to be playing the next gen version of the game simply because it will be better. I'm sure the existing servers will remain on for some time, but once you've got a new console, how long will you want to continue playing an obsolete version of the game?
