Edit: I didn't buy Haswell-E for gaming, obviously.. But now that I do have it, why wouldn't I want to at least get the most performance it can deliver in games? I'm not going to switch over to some old Dual core AMD CPU just so I can enjoy being limited to 60FPS. I'm ok, if you enjoy playing a game at 120fps but I seriously don't see the benefits gameplay wise. Yeah it's smoother bla bla. Let's say, if 240hz monitors become mainstream and the difference between a 120hz one is not noticeable, would you still jump on the 240fps train, because it has become mainstream? And what if someone says you are a peasant, because of not playing on the level of the elite which are 240fps? That's wasting resourcess for something that doesn't bring benefits, but makes you look like one of the elite. No, I'm not saying that you're one of them, I'm just sharing my opinion on this subject with you. I might have gotten a bit off topic with this but hey, when something is in my a head, I need to let it flow, even if, it doesn't make any sense. If 240Hz monitors become mainstream (Like 144Hz, completely replacing 120Hz), of course I would buy one once my SA950 breaks. That scenario is only considering the price being roughly the same and such. I would still probably play at 120FPS, because my video card can only do so much. But no, I wouldn't ditch my SA950 to get a 240Hz monitor. Also, I edited my first post a few seconds before you replied, so if you want to you can read my edit in the post above. VIPΣR
If your system does max out every aspect of your monitor such as resolution and refresh rate, and the game aswell, that's a win win situation. It would be a resourcess wasting thing aiming for 120fps, if your system couldn't max out the game, while running the game with the native resolution of your monitor and mantaining the 120fps. True, but you also have to factor in that even though 120Hz monitors are generally used for games (Or advertised for it), there are a lot of uses besides playing games. If you're working on video editing or photo manipulation for a living, you generally have a pretty beefy setup. If you then also use a 120Hz monitor for the general smoothness of using Windows (Or any other OS), then you're likely to aim at 120FPS. If you can't reach 120FPS, then you simply can't reach 120FPS and that's the end of that. There's also the enthusiasts, which primarily upgrades to reach the highest settings with highest refresh rates, 4K monitors and whatnot. Elitists are those that brag about it and/or looks down on anyone that can't play like they do. how about 120fps in 4k? Be my guest, find a monitor that supports both. Edit: Also, a GPU from 2020, as it's the only thing able to run that. raburs
I am strongly considering building a gaming PC, and I find myself wondering what would be the max amount of cores GTA V will utilize. GTA V runs on the same engine as Max Payne 3, so I'm sure their core optimization is similar. Should I go with 4, 6, or 8 cores? GTA 5 would work best with a Quad-core "4 Cores" CPU. If you buy a 6 or 8 core, then that is simply not necessary since anything above 4 cores is typically used for Photo editing or Video rendering. Definitely agree with u! I use Quad-core which is maximum recommendation for most games out there! Plus i also heavily use After Effects n PS.. which works flawless with Quadcore! Andreas
More than half of the first page as well the entirety of the second page has very little to do with the first post. Need I say more? If you want to talk about graphics-card, you can do so in Nvidia or AMD for GTA V?. Discussions about whether your PC is good enough to play V should go to the Grand Theft Auto V PC System Requirement Thread. To answer the question of the topic creator, we need confirmation on that from Rockstar. Intel processors like the i5 and i7 series are more than capable of running any modern title at maxed out settings. The same goes for AMD processors of the latest FX 6000 and 8000 series. Which one would be the preferable choice depends on how much money you have to spare, and what kind of software you are planning to use. If video editing is of importance for you, then more cores would be probably better. There is no big difference between the latest Intel quad-cores and the AMD octa-cores (actually quad-modules, but that's beside the point) in most video games, though. This is probably subject to change since the next-gen consoles use octa-core CPUs. One of the disadvantages of AMD processors is that they have a much worse performance-per-watt than their Intel counterparts. Software that relies on single-core performance is likely to perform worse on said processors for that reason. If you need further clarification, then you can post your question in one of the existing threads, or repost the thread in the hope that it won't be derailed like this one.
