I am strongly considering building a gaming PC, and I find myself wondering what would be the max amount of cores GTA V will utilize. GTA V runs on the same engine as Max Payne 3, so I'm sure their core optimization is similar. Should I go with 4, 6, or 8 cores?

GTA 5 would work best with a Quad-core "4 Cores" CPU.

If you buy a 6 or 8 core, then that is simply not necessary since anything above 4 cores is typically used for Photo editing or Video rendering.

I'd bet it will be optimized for quad core. Still, if you're going for AMD then get a octa core FX as they are quite the bargain. If Intel, then quad core i5 should be enough for the job.

Other than the fact that those extra cores can help with background tasks so the 4 cores used by the game also arn't running background windows tasks.

It isn't much, but it can help.

i´d say that i7 haswell at least

GPU i´d choose nvidia brand ,780ti x2 sli is a good choice

z99 sli MB is not expensive

16GB memory

ssd pro 512GB is required and recommended

-------------------------

good for 1080p 30-60fps-120fps in GTA V

by the way ,the 1080p IPS monitor is high recommended

As much as I do like AMD as a company: Intel's 4 cores are currently far ahead their 8 cores.

And there are still more single threaded tasks than you might expect.

OT: A quad-core should be able to handle the game nicely. Heck, I'm expecting dual-core i3's can run the game nicely.

So if I keep my current FX6300 I'll be ok if I upgrade my GPU only?

Best bet is wait till R* tells the system requirements.

Dude, FX-6300 will handle the game like it was made for it. Especially if you overclock it.

What I can tell that the game will run at least like Max Payne 3. And I'm pretty sure it'll be AMD optimized, considering CG consoles used AMD.

Also, I changed my original post.

@gtavxb1: Obvious troll is obvious. I can understand perfectly what the i7 4770K can handle. Heck, my X4 760K can handle GTA IV easily on very high with 30-55 FPS.

my i7 4770 with 750ti only get 30fps avg.in GTA IV

I got a FX-8320 OC and it runs GTAIV with 50-70fps, and I bet that the i7 4770K runs it with an even higher frame-rate.

DUDE. If you're running GTA IV on 30 FPS using your PC, I can easily tell that your OWN system is the blame. Let me guess, 100 View distance and 100 Detail distance.

No sir, you're the one who's either trolling, or newbie in PC.

just acknowlage that GTA V pc would be very cpu intensive game, and graphic card too,

so if gamer wanna to play smooth under 1080p,120fps ,just need to prepare a good ,or best pc rig ..

of cause still no official pc requiements mentioned..

just an adv.

You really don't need a supercomputer to run the game.

Well, I'm expecting the G258 to play the game beautifully.

Damn, too bad Mantle isn't available for Terascale chips.

crysis 3 does not support flagship gtx-295,so i doubt much if GTA V pc will not do well support old graphic card maybe kick off all old models ..or bad optimization.etc

i really worry about it
