The Mission Reviews Topic

Here we review each mission with no mercy. Say what you like and don't like.

If everyone agrees, I'm going to take the liberty to create a topic in which people say what they think of each mission, but not bother making a big-ass logo or first post.

Basically, each day, we will post a mission, and everyone is free to say what they think of it. NOT the cutscenes, because that means story and we know people think it sucks (I think it's not very well developed, with all the FIB thing going on, but I don't think it sucks, it's just not as good as previous games). I saw everyone hates the story and was curious to know what they think of the actual missions, which nobody can deny are really cool and more diverse and varied than IV (I mean, how can it not be cool and varied to jump onto a moving train and then crash a cropduster into an army plane?).

So, let's start. This is mission reviews. I guess we start with "Prologue"? I liked that for once we get an action sequence in a tutorial mission. What do you think?

I liked the prologue, it was a surprise, i expected the same as before, opening cutscene, credits, then you drive to a safehouse. A really good opening for me.

good idea hope it doesn't get locked it was a good mission but i thought it was to sudden a few missions in north yankton before that mission would've made it better.

The Prologue was hands down the best tutorial I've played to date, only because it didn't feel like a tutorial. It helped introduce you to characters, helped lay the groundwork for the story and really made you think at the end. It was action packed, crazy, took place in a setting pretty much unfamiliar to a GTA game and made you stoked to play the rest of the game. So yeah, it was the perfect prologue.

The Prolouge set the tone quiet nicely. It was probably the best first mission in GTA game and I was impressed.

i did not like the first part of the prologue, i felt like it was a cheap "tutorial" to get used to the controls, but at the same time was not intense or gave me an adrenaline rush. it was just a short point your gun here, then walk over here, then watch cutscene, then switch characters, then shoot, then walk, then watch cutscene. i enjoyed the opening to gta 4 with the car ride to romans apartment, and i loved the opening to san andreas where you get on a bike and start pedaling. i feel like the prologue would have fit better if it was in max payne than a grand theft auto. the combat was slow and the cop ai was dumbed down and felt very scripted the first time i played it.

the part of the prologue which i did enjoy was when they finally got into the car and you had to drive away and try to make the train crossing.

Since it's a simple mission, let's bundle "Franklin and Lamar" too. Remember this is about reviewing the mission, so you are free to say "aw, this sucked" or "this was good", like zuckmezlow did.

"F&L" was about learning to drive, and driving was a BIG freaking thing when the early streamings were going on. What did you think when yiu tried driving here? And how many of you were aware of Franklin's ability? Because some people focus too much on the road and completely ignore the prompts on the top left :D Oh, and losing the cops for the first time. That was easy for me because I got used to avoiding the cones pretty quick, but for some, mhhh... it's still tough *coff* amatteurs *coff*.

F&L kinda blew me away becuase I live in LA and seeing Los Santos for the first time is pretty f*cking cool.

However, when I went to lose the cops I remember doing some awesome Drive movie stuff trying to lose the cops and getting found twice. That was frustrating.

i liked franklin and lamar, loved the race aspect, loved the set pieces. and i loved that ending cutscene. this in my opinion is how the game should have started. put us in the drivers wheel in a high speed race through los santos. we could have gotten the north yankton prologue as a flashback later on in the game, it would have added a little more mystery to what happened with michael and trevor.

a bit surprising and set the tone super well

maybe the best shootout in the game

also some of the prettiest and best shot (camera work) cut-scenes in the game

wish the whole game was like the Prologue :p

F&L was amazing the first time. I was so used to driving in GTA IV, that I completely wrecked my 9F multiple times. Seeing Los Santos for the first time was breathtaking. Everything felt so new, and man did it ever make a good first impression. Getting away from the cops was hell for me, lol. I can get away easy as pie now, but not then.

So, since it's a new day, I would like to start this post by reviewing the mission Bury The Hatchet. I loved it because it expands upon the relationship between Michael and Trevor and made me question who was more of the deceitful liability.

Edit: the Prologue was pretty awesome though. Instead of taking this calm and slow or only showing you the action through a simple cutscene, you're put into the action with a face paced tutorial that keeps you on your toes, while the breathtaking, and darker tone of the snow filled region of Ludendorff, North Yankton is awaiting you before you step foot in the sun soaked world of Los Santos.

Minor Turbulence is f*cking amazing.

EDIT: Nevermind. I need to learn to read.

Prologue was magical. It was the start of something beautiful, and the snow only made it more majestic and mysterious, as it's the last thing you think of when you think "Sunny Los Santos".

10/10.

I liked the prologue. Not only because of North Yankton, but also since it was the only prologue that taught you driving, moving, shooting, and introduced you to the phone aswell.

I loved basically of the SNOW! such an interesting landscape for GTA, it kinda blew me away, and the shooting mechanics just felt so radical and refined compared to IV and it was really intense, with the chase etc. Much prefrred this to the simple tutorials of other games

Alrightyroo, since it's a new day, let's move on. You can still comment on previous missions, though.

Reposession - Complications - Chop

Yes, three missions to review. Let's go.

In Reposession you have a gangster shootout in an alley. We set a gasoline trail on fire for the first time (though it's autolocked and scripted to light up faster, don't know if you noticed :p)

In Complications you infiltrate in Michael's house and learn about stealth and how useful it is (sarcasm). I loved how Michael was shown to be in the car, with the camera slowly zooming in.

In Chop, well, you can switch to Chop and see him f*cking a male dog. That was hilarious.

Nice little shootout in Repossison. I got a nice feeling from it the first time I played it. Shooting felt a little wonky though as if the game just wanted to be Max Payne 3.

As for Complications, oh man I got that tingly feeling when Michael put the gun to Franklins head. Other than it was pretty unremarkable.

I liked Chop but the mission wasn't all the special. Lamar's dialouge is always top notch.

Reposession: Meh, shootout and car chase. Nothing special, and you get that generic bike as an unwanted reward.

Complications: That was f*cking awesome, but there is a huge plot hole, we never know what happened to that red blanket michael was hiding in.

Chop: Name says it all, any mission with this dog is insta-win.

Reposession: I liked it. Nice shootout, and you can avoid the long chase by shooting the guy before he drives off.

Complications: I love this mission. It's a great "introductory" mission to Michael and you get to drive thru Simeon's car dealership.

Chop: Nothing special, but it's not bad.

Prologue: Best first mission ever! I loved the snow, the atmosphere, everything.

Franklin & Lamar: This was also nice, seeing Los Santos for the first time was amazing, also got a first glimpse of the special abilities.

Repossession: I found this mission rather boring, although the shootout was intense the first time I played it.

Complications: Decent mission, but why the f*ck was Michael hiding in the car in the first place?

Chop: This mission was ok, but I found it a bit boring, but it was also nice to see Chop for the first time.

Prologue: The perfect opening, I honestly couldn't have thought of a better way to introduce this game. The Opening of a game should get you bumped up and be ready to play, whether that's just a cut scene or a Mission. The Prologue did it, it got me incredibly hyped to see how the Story would follow and gave a bit of a background to two of the main characters, Trevor and Michael and their past history, seeing what happened with Brad etc. The Setting of North Yankton was perfect also, the Snowy atmosphere really added to the mission.

Franklin and Lamar: Really good way to introduce both characters, also I loved the little appearance of Michael, and a taste of Michael and Franklin meeting each other briefly. The race was a really enjoyable way to get a first look around Los Santos, and also a good way to get better idea of the driving physics at high speed, plus you got to test out Franklin's great ability. I enjoyed the cut to Michael at the start as well with Michael and Friedlander.

Repossession: Not a bad mission, but not anything special either. It was rather basic, but the Chase at the end was fun I guess. I also enjoyed some of the dialogue between Franklin and Lamar. The Cutscene at the start with Simeon was pretty good, and gave me a chuckle the first time I played it. Especially the Employee of the Month part.

Complications: Really enjoyed this mission, I liked the stealth aspect and sneaking around Michael's house. Michael appearing from the back of the car was brilliant, and a great way for them to be introduced IMO. The thought of just Michael chilling in the car cracks me up though, must have been super paranoid about it being stolen lol.

Chop: Cool mission, entering Chop's perspective was really interesting and not something we had really seen before. Lamar and Franklin were as gold as always, I got Craig and Smokey vibes from Friday at the start of the game lol.

F&L has some of the best writing in GTA V

the banter between F and L is alway hilarious

and I love how Rockstar chose NWA's Appetite for Destruction for it... R* did suuuuch a good job at using music in GTA V

Repossession: Stupidly fun, man the first time playing this I sh*t bricks when Lamar shot that vago with the Uzi. It was a fun ass shootout man, really showed the hood side of things.

Complications: Brilliant, just brilliant. Couldn't imagine a cooler way to start playing as Michael.

Chop: Alright mission, just having chop around is cool.

repossession] i think it was a nice mission in the game drive to the place. while hearing lamar talking about wacking simon to take every thing he has.

have a little gang shoot out and chase down that bike. only for you to keep later on.

complications] i thought it was good you go to steal jimmys car. but you had to sneek around mikes house to drive off with it.

only to find out mikes in the back seat and has a gun at franklins head but it sure did feel good to kick simons butt though.

chop] i thought was kind of boring drive van to some alley just to kidnap some stupid balla. but he gets on a bike you chase him down

to the bus station. and then hunt him down like an animal on foot while chop follows you. catch him drive back home only to find out you aint

getting paid for the job cuz lamar screwed up again as always. but it was funny that chops gay and was having gay sex with a male dog.
