I am a little dissapointed in retrospect.

Rockstar Games to me have always been about character, plot and gameplay.

Now I know every game company is about these, but I always thought R* did this so well, created beautiful worlds where warped hilarious but likable characters lived, where you had freedom to live out their story, or yours.

Example,

GTA SA - While overrated through nostalgia, back in the day SA had great 90s tone, gameplay with some RPG elements and an enjoyabe story.

GTA IV - Great dark storyline, filtered with black comedy satire with gritty realistic gameplay.

Red Dead Redemption - IMO Their most beautiful game to date, with fully fleshed characters, the best wild west era game ever made.

LA Noire - While it lacks things to do, the storyline is perfectly crafted and the characters/graphics/map/tone make it immersive and impressive.

Max Payne 3 - Great storyline, shooting mechanics are awesome and fun and the multiplayer aspect was ambitious and enjoyable (though not perfect).

Now I don't hate GTA V. In fact I love GTA V. I just think that the game, looking back 1 year on, has been slightly spoiled by a mediocre story about characters who don't really go anywhere, excellent voice acting wasted, a map that is beautiful and large that has no indoor applications and thus no real nightlife or 'life' in general, a concentration on GTA O which continues to be a disappointment in content and cash grabs by R*.

* Much smaller number of interiors in Los Santos City relative to game size.

* Very little to no side missions relating to crime.

* A sh*t, boring story that revolved around f*cking feds/agents for half the game and not organized crime/gangs.

* A short SP story campaign relative to game size.

* Hardly anything very fun or interesting to do or see in both city and countryside.

* Very weak gang AI, no random shootouts between rival gangs in the streets.

* No gang or bodyguard recruitment.

* Cannot buy safehouse properties.

* Business owning feature was mediocre and poorly implemented.

* No decent non-crime side activities like gambling. Too much simple leisure activities.

* Weak and uninspiring protagonists, poor character development for them.

Alot of that is just a matter of opinion. I can agree on the property management, interiors and activities. Vehicle and weapon-wise though, I think they put in quite alot that IV did not have, as well as some customisation elements and stat building.

Yeah you have a point for just two out of that list. The standard of the story and protagonists are pretty much based on subjective opinion, but the rest are pretty much facts, they cannot be argued against.

As for weapons, V had more variety than IV yes. However IV had better gunshot effects and sounds in my opinion. V definitely had better vehicles than IV, they looked very sleek and superb. However IV, had better driving/handling in my opinion, it was more realistic.

If they started dropping games here and there their games will become sh*tty

Well kinda made no difference with V in way. V is not sh*tty as such, but it certainly has been a letdown for many - that is sh*tty considering how great hype and expectations surrounding it's release.

Disappointed by higher ups and f*cked up management decisions (PC version situation). Greatly pleased by the developer teams themselves and what they've managed to accomplish with V.

Well, they definitely got more mainstream but I am not dissapointed or anything. I don't have any expectations to begin with. Wait and see what comes out if it's good buy it, if not don't and go back to the old games.

Gnocchi Flip Flops

I didn't save the playthrough I did today but I thought I should just point out what happened:

Since for some idiotic reason we can't leave our engines on whilst we exit our cars, I did what I usually did to snap some photos with the lights on. I drove the Massacro at a slow speed and jumped out but it just kept rolling. It somehow drove over a very steep curb and fell into the ocean. I laughed it off as my mistake and headed to the impound to pick it up. Except it wasn't there. My older Massacro, the one I didn't want, was still there but my beautiful blue one wasn't.

This game needs insurance. Yes I could save my car right before playthroughs and load to them if something goes wrong but I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO. Why should Online have insurance whilst we sit here having to re-purchase and re-customize blown up or sunken cars?

Yes I am dissapointed with Rockstar Games at the moment. The most evident is the delay of the PC version, for completely unknown reasons.

Cheers.

meh, what can i say? the game feels like it had so much more potential, but just feels like an uncomplete package. it's a very odd feeling indeed. you play the game and feel as if you're having fun, but you feel like you're FORCING yourself to play to have fun. in san andreas it just felt more natural. this game is just terribly inconsistent.

-why give us an insane amount of vehicles with diverse customization options when the driving and car damage feel arcadey and mediocre?

-why give us a good variety of planes and choppers to use when the turbulence sucks?

-why give us numerous types of body armor when they're all weak as hell?

-why put in cheats if the way they were implemented sucks? not including the fact that many classic and fun cheats aren't even available.

-why have our health regenerate only halfway but not fully?

-why put in properties/fast-food joints if we cant enter them or use them for anything meaningful?

-why put in a stock market when it doesn't even function properly?

-why put in activities like golf, yoga, and tennis instead of gang wars, drug battles, or vehicle thefts? (the side activities in this game are welcomed. however, i LOATHE the fact that they have substituted for activities that I'd much rather have.)

-why put in an underwater ocean when its murky and there's no point in exploring it when there's nothing to find?

-why put in a giant countryside when there's little to no reason to go there? exploration is nonexistent, even in the city.

-why put in a stat system when it hardly changes anything and feels tacked on? punching peds for 3 hours to max my strength feels idiotic when there's a damn outdoors gym in the game.

-why bother putting in wildlife if it's gonna be a very minimal amount of animals? this includes the fact that hunting is pointless and serves no purpose.

-why give us suppressors when the stealth system is broken?

-why replace crouch with stealth when it doesnt even work right?

-why boast about having 3 main characters when the story will end up being incredibly short? this is contrary to what we were all expecting from the campaign.

-why devolve from a 6 star wanted level to only 5 stars when the police A.I. is terrible?

-why allow us to converse with peds when they all get hostile in return?

-why put paramedics into the game when they dont even heal anybody?

-why include the government in the story when they're just gonna leech off of your efforts?

-why put a pointless iOS app in the game in regards to customizing your dog and license plates when you could have just implemented those into the damn game itself?

-why put many different gangs in the game when they remain stagnant and dont do anything?

-why take out fun features such as jumping in place, throwing items at people, pushing people, and leaving your engine running after exiting vehicles for no coherent reason?

-why put in hotdog stands and other hotspots when you cant interact with any of them?

-why put in prisons, stadiums, army bases, or casinos when they just sit there for cosmetic purposes?

-why include unnecessary optional objectives into the missions? i wanna do things MY way. i dont wanna conform to R*'s ideas of how to do a mission the "right" way.

-why put in so many collectibles when the rewards you get are terrible? it makes you feel like you've wasted your time. same goes for reaching 100 percent.

-why put out so many trailers and screenshots for single player prior to the game's release, when the online is gonna get all the attention shortly after launch?

the list goes on and on and ON. this isnt nitpicking, folks. these are blatant inconsistencies and fallacies which simply either make no sense, kill immersion, or make you feel as if the game is trying to give you an average experience at best, or a disappointing experience at worst. how the hell rockstar overlooked or simply neglected to improve upon these crucial gameplay aspects is beyond me.

the game feels castrated.

P.S. im not ungrateful for what the game has to offer. im simply stating that the game's many faults make it hard for you to appreciate the game when you spend almost every second feeling compelled to criticize it instead.

@Brilliant: I agree. It does feel castrated. I'm just going to list all of my complaints:

- Why put in a Cluckin' Bell or a Burger Shot if they can't even be entered? In every game since SA, these have been enterable and now all of a sudden they're not? For what? Just to be lazy, knowing some idiot defender will stick up for you with another one of those console limitations arguments?

- Why advertise safehouse property pre-launch (Jul 2013), knowing that a lot of people bitched for it back in November 2012 when they said it wouldn't return, only to disappoint us again with the absence of it?

- Why even ditch safehouse property in the first place? I mean for a game that's f*cking centered around money, so much so that you can become q billionaire with a lot of hard work, why the f*ck wouldn't you have something big, gaudy, and beautiful for us to sink our cash into just for the f*ck of it. Yeah it might not fit the characters but who the f*ck cares, this is a video game where nothing is SUPPOSED to be realistic. It's supposed to be fun and in a game centered around money you SHOULD be able to feel like you can obtain anything! Not just a couple of sh*tty repetitive unenterable properties and a few tacky cars per character with very limited garage space.

- Getting with the times is likely the reason why Online was a big focus, but they should realize that no matter what, they'll always have a big SP fanbase. So why cut features from SP like insurance, safehouses, et cetera? It just sucks, it just f*cking sucks.

- A lot of dumb decisions have been made with V and these are just a few of them: not being able to leave cars on whilst exiting them unless you hop out whilst it's still moving; having to change your license plate via some god awful app and ONLY being able to change it 1 f*cking time; the cops; shooting accuracy and the way your health decreases; launching a very detailed snow filled world for Christmas and then getting rid of it after 1 damn day.

- The MAP: Okay, here we go. Yes we all know the map is very detailed, the biggest in the series, and offers some very awesome shading and lighting. But outside of Los Santos it isn't really that great. And Los Santos could've been better. Where is East Los Santos? Instead of having all of those pointless oilfields and random dirt roads, we could've gotten Anaheim and a few other run down/lower middle class neighborhoods just for the hell of it. Northern Los Santos, or should I say north of it, should've been Simi Valley and a taste of the Thousand Oaks community. Then north of that should've been the Great Chaparral (but much dryer because the last time I checked, Southern California ISN'T green nor lush! It's dry as hell!). Also, the eastern coast is the only place that looks and feels secluded. The Grand Senora desert looks too busy, it's too small, and feels like a national park. The whole west coast was fine until the forests near Paleto. The forest just feels too small, and not very dense. Paleto itself is decent but not great. Outside of that one stupid ass heist, it's kind of pointless. It's not pretty, and idiotically we can't own a safehouse there except for in Online, go figure. It sucks. And the amount of towns sucks too. Where is Santa Cruz, Monterey, Napa, Lake Arrowhead, Big Bear Lake, or that town south of Monterey, forgot it's name? All of these would've been far better than Paleto and about half of them should've been included, no if ands or buts about it. I've also noticed that the freeways in Los Santos are fairly decent but outside of the city they suck. They're thin, short, and kind of boring compared to the real highways of Southern California. I looked at that fan made map and that is exactly how the freeways in the countryside should've been. That guy's map is exactly how V's should've been. Well maybe without San Fierro and Las Venturas (add some small little Southern California towns instead). His map also had some fun, SECLUDED, TARMAC country roads too. That is EXACTLY what V is lacking but it's EXACTLY what the REAL Southern California has almost EVERYWHERE.

- The CARS: Okay okay, V gave of the largest amount of cars we've ever had in a GTA. But they've cut a lot of good cars too and ruined a lot of good names with poorly designed modern saloons/hatchbacks and too many repetitive super cars. Not to mention the cars handle pretty poorly unless their sports, supers, or classics. That is a big bummer. So is the way that some of these cars have been designed. Interiors that don't match, missing badges, missing lights, awful aesthetics, copying and pasting, they just did a poor job with cars in general in V. It pissed me off majorly because I drive 90% of the time in every GTA.

So there you have it. Most of my complaints.

bad treatment of employees

pricing next gen versions at 60$ one and half year after the last gen versions release.

As much fun as I've had with GTA V, I can't argue with many of those points. I can't help but feel like many parts of GTA V feel unfinished, which is inexcusable considering the game was delayed for a good 4-6 months. I love the game for what it is, I really do, but I just don't feel like Rockstar put all of their heart and soul into it. I'm hoping the single-player DLC and NG versions make up for what the game had originally failed to deliver on. Because this game is a good example of taking one step forwards but two steps back, or the other way round depending on how you look at it.

Yeah for real man. Even though it's primarily a crime game about gangs and organized crime, GTA needs to be more about cops, federal and government agents, corny-ass Hollywood style. We need more mundane leisure activities like yoga and triathon too, f*ck selling drugs and gang wars.

I agree that gang activities should be added and people should accept that some people do genuinely want them. I just don't care for them but I wouldn't even mind a whole DLC devoted to gang activity, whatever makes us complain less.

It's actually primarily a crime game about any type of crime that involves theft. Hence, Grand Theft Auto.

Grand Theft Auto V in particular has a focus on general robbery. Heists, convenience stores, armored trucks and the usual vehicle theft.

Whether or not it succeeds in focusing on these theft activities is up to you to decide. But I think we already know your thoughts on the matter...

Wait, I thought GTA was a game that was primarily about you as a player committing nearly any crime possible, from murder to to torture to the self-explanatory title itself. GTA has never been just about organized crime and gang wars. And why is it so bad that Michael, Franklin and Trevor have to do the Governments dirty work. It's still just them committing crimes, basically.

-why put out so many trailers and screenshots for single player prior to the game's release, when the online is gonna get all the attention shortly after launch?

It's very simply - they used GTA V to promote online, and this is also reason for sh*tty campaign, and lack of features. All they care about now is money and online. And they knew what they were doing, because it was unbelievable how high was hype before release. Paid reviews, trailers and screenshots full of lies (like Franklin in gang colors driving lowrider might suggest that gangs have very important role in the game, in reality gangs doesn't exist) or talking about buying properties in single-player gameplay. It was all about creating hype and pushing people to buy uncompleted and rushed game - GTA V, because it was impossible to make money just from online, I mean, no one will buy online without basic game.

And traditionally: GTA is dead. GTA V on nextgens won't be better - it's just to make more money, and bring online to nextgens. Don't wait for GTA VI, it will be worse than V. IV is last true GTA game, RIP Grand Theft Auto 1997-2010.

Regardless of whenever you're happy or unhappy with the direction the series is taking, I think the statement "RIP GTA" is a little overdramatic.

Not trying to be rude towards him, but he was the one who started it all. I told him multiple times that GTA isn't just locked to gang crimes, but GTA is actually about any type of crime available.

GTA:VCS for example is about military crime/corruption, SA is about gang wars, V is about government and robberies in general, and what's that title that was focusing on mobsters? GTA:LCS?
