TL;DR thoughts from a lurker

My basic comments on the OP's observations:

 

1. Yes, theFGTAF mods could add some value by doing some scoring or sorting of the quality of the noise that echoes around the internet (and more specifically around the forum) regarding GTAV rumor and speculation.

 

The mods actually do some of this already in terms pinned threads and locking / deleting the bullsh*t spewed by irresponsible or ignorant individual and of course the outright trolls.

 

2. Regarding the amount of time people spend complaining about little things like certain car models requiring a new expenditure of $500 in their lives, well, complaining is free and fun, while making $500 is a lot of hard work.

 

If I needed to make an extra $500, just finding a way to make that money, not to mention the actual work itself, would be a huge downer, totally out of proportion to the effort I would like to put into a game or a forum. If I was going to start that process, I would be looking at a way to find or create a real job, that would be fun and have much more potential than just $500. It would be much bigger than just a video game decision.

 

Personally in terms of finances, without having to face all the life-changing considerations above, I could in fact buy a PS4 now and pre-order GTAV next-gen now, but even so, l find it more satisfying to come here to the forum and bitch about Rockstar's bad GTA0 decisions (of which the next-gen car availability is but a tiny part) rather than shell out $500 that I may regret due to future disappointments courtesy of Rockstar marketing.

Based on your ability to form complete sentences, I know for sure that you aren't one of the people I'm talking about. I'm talking about the people who use all caps a lot, and seem really, truly upset to the point where I worry about them a little bit. Obviously if you enjoy complaining about Rockstar, and that's fun for you, have at it. I just mean that if you are truly angry about a DLC car, than either A) GTA is a real passion in your life, and you shouldn't sell yourself short by being stuck with the old system or B) You have serious anger problems and probably videogames and forums are a bad idea for you since they are two of the most infuriating things in the universe.

Yeah, the forum is a little weird. You'll have one thread in most circumstances (here's looking at you Bitch & Moan) where they expect 100's of people to have a discussion on 100's of different topics. It just doesn't work, it's too clutterered. Then you'll get the wannabe mods complaining about posts not being in the right thread. I don't really understand why everyone wants a single thread for everything, It's a forum after all. Then you'll get people trying to kickstart a similar sort of thread just so they can get 100 pages and seem relevant.

Personally, I'd remove this section of the forum. So when you click 'Grand Theft Auto: Online' you are presented with sub-forums for where you want to go. For example:

 

Lobby & Meetups

Crews

Gameplay

Help Desk

Content Creator

Complaints Department

Rumour & Speculation

Vehicles

The 'Help Desk' would be a combination of 'Guides & Strategies', 'Q&A,' and obviously 'Help & Support'. It would cut down on most the rubbish posted here, and the forum would be easier to navigate, plus, there won't be just a single thread for just about everything you can think of.

OP-It don't make you a lesser person to have succumbed to the urge of posting here. You are a better person for it. On the money note, $500 US is a lot of money elsewhere in the world. So what would seem as doable in your eye's can be a sky high price elsewhere.

 

And to all who want to sling hash at people who do complain. Have you ever seen change if no one new change needed to be made? Sure, all the constant complaining and the maturity of the complaints can become quite nerve raking. On the flip side, the people complaining are being heard. Who want to see what games end up being if everyone just took what they got? No matter what your opinion on the cost/hours played ratio. We as gamers should always expect more. It is our money, why would we choose to settle for less just because some people can throw money around?

I think you're missing the point about the dukes. It's not so much the car itself not being put into 360/ps3(well that is part of it I've wanted that car since launch), it's the fact R☆ asked the players what they wanted to see in future DLC, and people said they wanted the dukes. Rather than give the players what they requested, R☆ uses their request to try to get them to buy the whole game over again. Notice the Dukes is not next gen exclusive via preorder or just by purchasing the game. It's only available to players who previously owned the game and therefore were likely the ones who requested the car for ps3/360. That's what has people pissed off. R☆ used our suggestions against us just to try to sucker us into buying the game twice. That's a real slap in the face. I guess from now on we should request cars we don't want in hopes they actually add the cars we do for free. Honestly, I'd pay $5 for a classic GTA IV car DLC for 360 that included the dukes, faction, fortune, and uranus, plus another muscle car, stallion maybe. But I refuse to pay $60 plus a $400 console to replay a game i have a lot of time into already.

Online multiplayer always have longer replayability than offline mode. It's made to be less structure and wider. Here are some of the multiplayer games I played:

 

- Borderlands Multiplayer

Lasted for 1 year

 

- Borderlands 2 Multiplayer

Lasted for 9 months

 

- GTA Online

Lasted for 10 months

 

Offline Mode? Single Player? Not a chance. Internet error? I don't touch these games.

 

So yeah, pretty much when you're talking about GTA Online that can last for 11 months so far (to you), it's actually not a big and new thing. One of the things Rockstar do it right is to update the game every month, although the update may be gone boring after 30 minutes - 2 days.

Sure, all the constant complaining and the maturity of the complaints can become quite nerve raking. On the flip side, the people complaining are being heard. Who want to see what games end up being if everyone just took what they got? No matter what your opinion on the cost/hours played ratio. We as gamers should always expect more. It is our money, why would we choose to settle for less just because some people can throw money around?

I totally get that plenty of people can't afford to spend 500 dollars on a videogame system. I can afford it, technically, but even for me, it's horribly irresponsible to spend so much money on videogames as an adult. I definitely should stop. I just don't think it makes Rockstar "greedy" to try to make money, and I certainly think they've provided excellent value with this game so far. If they'd just stopped supporting this game after a year without making a next-gen version, I feel like more people would understand that, but for some reason, the fact that the next-gen version exists makes people expect that everything introduced for next-gen is supposed to get ported back to last-gen, and it just isn't realistic.

 

If the people that are complaining were being heard, why hasn't there been a decent update in a while? If the people that are complaining were being heard, why aren't there heists? You're going to get less whether you settle for it or not.

As for the speculation thread, it serves it's purpose. In my opinion the thread is essentially a dumping ground for baseless speculation an rumors, just like the wishlist thread is a dumping ground for "pls rkstr let me has new super car and suits". When there is a substantial "leak" based in true findings, it usually gets it's own thread.

 

As for people who think Rockstar is greedy, I mostly agree with their sentiment. It's not bad for developers to include purchasable shortcuts, but when the inclusion of said mechanic directly skews the prices the developers set on in game items, and influences the rewards given in game in order to further encourage the purchase of the shortcuts, that is what I find greedy. I believe that they use the revenue of Cash Cards as a substitute for creating actual new and engaging content. Not to mention that the fact that Cash Cards exist directly impacts GTA$ worth in terms of earning it legit, but that is a subject for another time.

 

The problem is that when a developer makes a DLC that you have to purchase with real money, it is a product that they must sell to you. When it is a free DLC they can put however much effort, or lack of it, into the content as they want, and there will always be people like OP that shout "It's free; you have no right to complain" from the mountain tops.

 

The prices of other items in the economy are irrelevant. The truth is that I have truly grown to dislike GTA: Online, so much that I wouldn't even recommend it to a friend, especially one who doesn't have a vast amount of time to play. Sure, I have over 30 days of gametime on GTA, but I haven't had any fun on it for the most part. Most of my time has been devoted to playing job after job, which I do not wish to do, in order to afford the in game items I wish to have fun with. I played Online for the first time in a month last night and got off within an hour. Races are frustrating, deathmatches are infuriating, free mode battles are boring, and jobs are painfully repetitive.

 

I also hate the fact that there will be exclusive content for next gen. It would be one thing if you just got it early, but having it exclusive is just awful. The increased performance, graphics, and gameplay should be enough.

1. Most of your post was b^tching about people on the forums B^tching.

2. It was just a stab at the people who state regularly that things of this nature belong in B&M.

3. You should not feel like video games are irresponsible or not for adults. There are plenty of old timers here, and it is one of the most inexpensive ways to entertain yourself per hour (as you stated).

4. The complaining gets tons of attention at R*, unfortunately there is a lot that needs their attention.

5. Heists- Well, the best I can figure, they tried and failed. But are still trying. It's not like they are done and R* has held on to them for months. Well maybe, but hey, they are in this to make money. Saying that you will get less whether you settle or not is pessimistic. Even if there is just a 1% chance of the complaining working, I'll take the 1% for a chance to get more, rather than stick my head in the sand. The funny thing is, some people want more from the game and complain when it doesn't happen. Then someone else complains about their complaining. If it is wrong for them to complain about something important to them how is it better for others to complain for any reason? Do you expect your complaining to garner a different result. The idea is, people complain when they want to vent, we all have things to complain about. Let them vent, that's why most are here anyway. Aside from the occasional squeaker looking for the next money glitch.

yes, and that's what makes them look greedy. They took something people wanted in the game they already owned and put it in the next version requiring people to purchase the same game again, and in some cases, a $400 machine they don't own. Whether or not it's "good business practice" it's still greedy imo.

I dont want a rusty dukes. I hate rusty cars in GTA. I just want the regular flat hood clean dukes. They can give the highway stalker F&F style one with the blower, hood pins, chin spoiler, and special graphic as the exclusive one.

 

This would make the most sense as both versions were in IV and i believe the highway stalker is something along the lines of the gang burrito vs regular burrito. Or franklins buffalo vs a regular buffalo. 2 distinct different models of the same vehicle.

 

Furthermore they could make the blower unavailable on the regular dukes but maybe give you the option to remove it on the highway stalker. Both versions could have options such as the huge wing from the phoenix and a slanted nose for a proper looking dodge daytona/plymoth superbird.
