Well, my username says it all, but I'm really bored right now.

Here are two things:

1) Has it been suggested that the mods separate the rumor thread from the speculation thread? Or, alternately, policing the rumor thread better so that people stop posting what are essentially wishlist posts in there? I am interested in hearing about what the "leakers" (hackers) have found about new updates, but I really don't want to wade through pages and pages of people saying "I speculate that they'll release my favorite car from GTA IV because I really want it" or "I think they'll release a 9/11 update" (this one was real, I actually saw someone suggest that there might be an update commemorating a terrorist attack) or "Tuesday is National Hot Dog Day, so I speculate a Weinermobile update will be released, with maybe a hot dog costume, and a gun that shoots hot dogs" (this one I made up for purpose of illustration).

It gets to the point where there are several rumors that are discussed constantly, and after having read probably 75 pages of the thread, I can't figure out if they're based in reality. Is there a reason so many people think there's going to be an update for the anniversary of the game? Has Rockstar done that before, so there's some kind of precedent? Was there a leak at some point suggesting this? It seems like there's code for a couple of military planes, but is there anything whatsoever indicating that there might be an entire military-themed update? Reading that thread leaves me no clue, as most everything in there seems entirely made-up to me, and it would be pretty nice to have a thread that focuses specifically on discussion of leaks/information.

2) It's absolutely unbelievable to me how many people have been playing this game for an entire year, but hate the publisher of the game for being "greedy." What games have you guys been buying that hold your interest for more than a year? Most games I buy, I'm able to get like 20-40 hours out of, and I'm done forever, and it's totally worth my 60 bucks. A beer at an NFL game costs $9.50. A value meal at Wendy's is close to 10 bucks. I've seen band t-shirts at concerts that sell for 40 dollars. 60 bucks for a video game that entertains you for more than 30 hours is a pretty great value in today's America.

But we're not talking 30 hours for most of you. Not only have you played the game for an entire year, but you play it enough that you post really frequently on a forum about it. I bet most of you have played this thing for 100-200 hours easily. You obviously love Grand Theft Auto. You should love the publisher of the game, not hate them.

Of course it'd be nice if they kept giving the community awesome stuff for free, and it's okay to be disappointed if you expected a really exciting update and you got an update that didn't contain anything you want. Clearly they've made some mistakes in developing the game. Every time they add something, hackers are able to take advantage, and that's frustrating, and it merits some discussion. Clearly they've run into some kind of problem with the heists, but, for God's sake, again, you love GTA enough to post about GTA on a forum. Do you really mean to tell me you wouldn't have bought this game at all if they didn't promise "online heists"? You think, after playing for at least a hundred hours, that Rockstar owes you your sixty bucks back because of one thing they have failed to implement?

As an owner of a next-gen system, if Rockstar is trying to get me to part with 60 dollars to buy the next-gen version of the game, they’re going to have to offer me something. I’m not just going to give them 60 dollars for prettier grass and a better resolution for a game I’ve already pretty much burned out on. The fact that some of you are furious that they might offer one extra car to a person who is willing to spend 120 dollars on a game that you spent 60 dollars on is pretty baffling. They’re going to have to offer me far, far more than the Dukes for me to buy it. If you’re smart, you’ll expect that Rockstar knows that, and in turn, you’ll expect that the next-gen version is going to have some things in it that you want.

If you are investing emotional energy into being furious about potential unavailability of one car in a Grand Theft Auto game, your life priorities might be a bit out of whack. Often I find that people who don’t prioritize their life properly tend to have a hard time managing their finances. I’m not saying 500 bucks isn’t a lot of money, I’m not saying it should fit into everyone’s budget to buy it right this second, and I’m not saying it isn’t okay to be sad when you can’t afford something that you want. But, man, if you care so much that you’re actually angry about the Dukes to the point where you spend time complaining on this forum, you probably care enough to do what it takes to save for a new system, even if you aren’t quite able to get it by launch day. I think it’d be a better way to invest your energy. Of course, take my thoughts on life priorities and energy investment with a grain of salt, given that I just wrote about 1000 words on a GTA forum myself.

Anyway, if anyone actually read this, thanks, cheers, etc.

I skimmed over the basis of your post. just want to say good attempt, but most people here are brainless chumps taking advantage of the power of anonymity.. they do have some people with their heads on straight that want to see a better game.

R* is deserving of some roasting, it's the people who bitch and complain about everything that are a problem. That's what you get with the internet though, and it will only get worse, not better as the younger generations become more dependent on technology.

Wow 12th post and already insulting.

Good to see you've got some intellectual views and comments, tho. Keep it up bro.

OP, imagine a 24-hour news network, and the ticker at the bottom says "GIANT DUNG BEETLE TERRORIZES NEIGHBORHOOD". You would have been the only one that noticed or cared.

Sorry OP, I took part in that dumb argument (although at least welcome in some form). You made great points, I agree as I still play the game from time to time, which is way more than I can say about the vast majority of my other games, Red Dead and Skyrim included.

As to your point regarding separating the rumor/speculation thread, it's a grand idea. Doesn't do a lot of good to have to invest hours to read all of those only to learn people want the Hydra, Dukes and more a varied tank selection, and the seem to believe if they repeat the wish loudly or often enough, it surely will come true.

Welcome to the Forums, I, and others, hope to see more from you, sir.

For number two, the only thing I"ll add to this is that if it wasn't for everyone going "OMG GREEDY", they'd get more greedy - they are a business. Rockstar values it's customer base more than most, but they're still a business. Negative feedback helps keep them in check before they turn in to EA.

I often see bitching I completely disagree with - however at the same time realize it's a customer's opinion. Some people do over-dramatize stuff to get attention on a topic - but it does ensure those views get noticed and makes people think - posting their own opinions.

I think the only time they would have any concern over their "greed" is if they started losing money. If I worked at Rockstar, and saw some kid just tearing Rockstar apart about a next-gen exclusive car and how bad he wants it, the only thing I'd think is "Hot damn, we've really done a good job at marketing this thing. The kid is considering buying a 400 dollar game system AND our 60 dollar game just so he can have the 'Dukes'! We rule!"

They're a business not a chairty - you don't get that big without caring about profits. The only reason Rockstar is pretty good to us, is because they value as an asset. Because of that value, they're one of my favourite publishers but I will not pretend they are my buddy.

The team at Rockstar are more intelligent than what you're making out there. The issue (not just the Dukes, but community discussion in general which included this) was around support for older consoles. Giving an exclusive car to people who purchased the game twice - is fantastic - but at the same time they caused concern for existing owners of the game that they were being discarded / ignored.

The bitching in the community (not just this forum, we're only part of it) shows them it's important to their customers to maintain the older version. That's just an example of how bitching works.

Sure if someone said "I'm returning my game because I couldn't get a Dukes, f**k Rockstar" I'd call them a crybaby who can't appreciate good value. But that does not make his opinion irrelevant - because if too many people have that opinion then that's a player base reduction (which overall reduces cash card throughput).

p.s. not saying you shouldn't complain about them, it's just an alternative view I like to take sometimes, I realise I'm not the only person with opinions and mine aren't more valuable than anybody elses.

I completely agree with OP.

1. The rumor and speculation thread has completely bottomed out. Someone mentions Eazy E's birthday is in September, and the next few pages are people confirming that a gang dlc is inbound. Ridiculous!

R* has not said one word, or even hinted at releasing a dlc to commemorate GTA's 1 yr anniversary, but that thread is chock full of people explaining how there is a 100% chance of dlc coming. It is a wishlist thread where people actually try and prove wishes true.
