I know this has been discussed before and warned you in the title, but this is another aspect to heists I think someone should say.

Not that I really care or want heists at this point and have plenty of fun without them, but I keep hearing how "they didn't give a date" on heists so it shouldn't matter...... and this argument in particular is a little frightening.

A Judge threw out a lawsuit against R* not bringing heists for this very reason.

http://www.joystiq.com/2014/01/30/gta-online-class-action-lawsuit-dismissed/

This is a little alarming since based on this logic, what's stopping gaming companies from putting all sorts of shenanigans on the back of the box and saying we'll get it "soon"?

This basically means at some point any number of consumers could pay for blank disks with "future content" at "some later point", and have no recourse.

Or, well, we didn't specifically say this content wasn't behind another paywall......

See where I'm going with this?

That article is all wrong, in my opinion. It should read more like this...

Judge Virginia A. Phillips disagreed, citing "It's a f*cking computer game and these self-entitled losers should look out of their windows at the poverty and desolation in the world and get a grip."

At this point i don't know who to side with. I've defended this company at times while also b*tching about alot of things but at this point, what they did was false advertisement and was flat out wrong. The fact that it was promised TOO MANY times and delayed OVER & OVER and that they are now completely ignoring it in favor of the current gen consoles now getting GTA V is enough to piss most off. Now me personally, i don't care that much with heists to begin with but it doesn't mean that the majority don't and everyone has every right to be pissed at this point and even going as far as taking action because Rockstar sure as hell ain't doing anything about it.

Surprised this thread hasn't already lit up. I'm guessing either this site doesn't see alot of action at this time of day, or original post was too straight-forward and cut out off all the nonsense so there's really nothing to discuss......

I rest my case.

And I know my original hypothetical was an over-exaggeration, not trying to scaremonger but literally and legally speaking.

^This. Whether or not R* is in the wrong here, it's not worth a lawsuit and people just need to get the hell over it .

Besides, if R* doesn't end up delivering heists, their reputation will plunder and we'll be seeing that in their future game sales (Not like the CEO gives a sh*t, hes retiring rich as f*ck  )

I think the first comment to the original article nails it...

What damages were they claiming?

Terminal boredom?

Restless trigger finger syndrome?

Singleplayeritis?

I agree that at this point heists could be considered false advertisement, but not the sue-able kind of false advertisement, the kind that should have its consumers wary and aware that any trailer or advertisement should be deemed false, greatly exaggerated and disregarded as true until proven otherwise.

translation; they lie like any company with something for sale. accept it

Heist got f*cked up because of how broke their game is..

Plain and simple..

...and they're holding off on the one thing that sold the game because if it's f*cked at this point, no amount of shiny new next-gen/DLC could alleviate all the middle fingers and back turns.

R* is just leading the way in false advertising.

Showing the rest of these companies how to swindle some of that time and money up'outcha.

Like I said, personally I'm more concerned over the message she (This Judge in this case) is sending.

Companies can say and advertise anything they want about anything they're selling, shelve it and create the rest of that product at some later time because they didn't say "immediately"....

We didn't say this chair would come with a 4th leg even when we advertised it as such, so we'll make 4th leg "soon" and take our time to perfect it.

You go to a restaurant and order hamburger, fries, drink. Drink doesn't exist, but your still paying for everything so come back in one year or so.

Now, many will argue Online is an added bonus so noone is entitled to anything GTA Online. That's not for this thread.

I'm talking about this argument in particular being allowed to fly in court.

And that's what noone seems to be talking about.

I feel where you're coming from.

But when sh*t like this happens, it calls for a drastic measure and countless amounts of time and money.

Something people would rather spend on a falsely advertised game..

The suit claimed the state of Grand Theft Auto 5 at launch last September was "unlawful," "unfair" and "fraudulent" on the part of Take-Two and Rockstar.

IMO, a major reason the judge shot this case down was the wording chosen by the plaintiffs. Nothing R* did was unlawful or fraudulent. It may have been unfair in some people's eyes, but you can't sue for that lol. It all comes down to the judges discretion, if there was a case where it was clear the consumers had been blatantly lied to (which is not the case here) I'm sure she would have ruled differently.

Regarding other companies following R*'s lead: As I said before, their reputation will suffer, thus future sales. simple economics.

I'm still going to continue to buy R* games because they're fun and I could give a sh*t about heists.

Seriously, for your own benefit, stop holding your breath. Go play Payday2 or BF:Hardline(when that comes out) if you're really that concerned with heists.

yeah i used to be a huge fan of this game and online. Hell i have over 63 days in GTA:O, but R*'s money grabbing tactics, lack of heists, and the way they went about next gen and what it means for people on current gen really rubbed me the wrong way.

It's doesn't, specifically.

The GTA V packaging itself doesn't state it has "immediate" access to single player portion.

It's how its advertised. Going by the plot summary off the packaging alone, it could have been made into a completely different game from behind the scenes from what was advertised literally everywhere else.

What's your point?

If heists come out with the next gen release and not for ps3/360. there will be people rioting outside R*'s corporate headquarters.

Yeah. When players request something and the company responds with "hey, these players want us to add something, we could give it to them in a free DLC, or a small paid DLC...Nah, let's just make them buy the damn game again." That just reeks of greed and a "we don't give a sh*t about you, only your money" attitude.

lest anyone forget the original GTA online trailer......notice what a good portion of it is showing off? multiple players robbing a bank......a um, heist?

I'm sure a lot of people bought GTA V for GTA online because face it, lots of people play multiplayer games and don't even attempt the single player. That wasn't the case for me as i was a day 1 buyer, but i never played the Battlefield 3 campaign, and i only played the goldeneye 007 campaign several months after i bought the game for multiplayer.

Take this for what it's worth, you can believe me or not, but I have a friend that I talk to often in another community. It's a respectable community, full of professional developers and web/print designers. It's a well known fact he works for rockstar doing dev work (he's in the credits for GTAV), and he's been spot on with every DLC date thus far. He told everyone about a month ago that he had 2 important dates, the first was the announcement of the Next Gen version which was accurate with the date he announced. The other was a date in October, which is apparently a "massive" amount of content. I don't know if it's heists, at this point I think they probably won't come out. But something big is coming. He won't tell anyone more details, but keep a look out.

10/21 is the date. Is that the year anniversary? (close enough I guess).

10/21 is around the date people stopped losing characters...so maybe they are commemorating that with a massive wipe to get people to migrate? :p j/k
