Pau Diaz
It's said that GTA V is misogynistic. I can't say I blame the critics. I mean, to begin with Karen acts as violently as a man. She dresses like one so much that only her voice gives her away as a woman. I had to look closely at her face to determine her feminine features during one of my You Tube visits. Ashley is depicted as downright unhealthy and is made to watch Johnny getting killed by Trevor. What about Debra? She's a cheating, self-centered woman who ends up getting killed instead of reformed. From what I've seen of these women, the opposite gender doesn't have it very easy in GTA V.

universetwisters
The thing about GTA 5 isn't that it's misogynistic, but rather the fact that everybody seems to play a crazy huge stereotype of something, like Jimmy being a stoner video gamer, Wade being a meth casualty, etc. however, it didn't feel that way in IV and other older GTA games. f*ck, the only down-to-earth character there might have been in V was Floyd. Fuzzknuckles
I disagree with the critics, I've seen no evidence that that GTA V hates women. Your examples are weak to say the least. I wouldn't say that GTA hates women. I would say that there's very little respect for women, and that they are not really portrayed as much more than sex objects - the majority of women in V are bimbo-esque, and those that aren't are either ice-maidens like Molly, or are obese and repugnant like Maude. R*'s portrayal of women is exceedingly negative and overtly sexual, because their audience is largely made up of puerile young boys who can't take women if they're not presented as one of a handful of stereotypes. Puerile young boys who might, say, discuss which of the character models is hottest, for example, or which they'd like to f*ck. (Hint 1 - they're not real. Hint 2 - even if they were... you wouldn't stand a chance). Sadly, this is as indicative of the audience as it is of R*. Supply and demand, baby. theworldfamous
GTA's entire world view is misogynist, so it makes sense women are included. Secondly, this type of crime fiction is traditionally aimed at men. It's like film noir. Thirdly, I know theres a big debate around women in games right now, but I think it's unfair to drag r* into that as a culprit. They are the ones satirizing stereotypes and cultural clichés and one of the few developers doing that. They don't make a stand for women, but they do make a stand for flabby middle aged guys as protagonists, which I doubt women would even do...so there's that too. From what I can tell, male prosperity is the most important thing. Maria from GTA III was spared the humiliation of either dying, and or, ending up as a drug addict, getting thrown in jail, working in a strip club, but, to my recollection, and I'm talking about my experiences with GTA III, Vice City IV and TLAD, no other women met such sticky ends. I have not played Vice City or Liberty City Stories. Were any women in those games more fortunate than the rest?

ribon
GTA V is a satiric game. For those of you who have never been to school, here's the definition: The satire is a genre of literature, and sometimes graphic and performing arts, in which vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, corporations, government or society itself, into improvement. (taken from here) Those people who claim GTA V is misogynistic (i.e. shows dislike towards women) have apparently never played any of the GTA games before. ALL GTA games are misogynistic. Then again, they're also misandristic, sexist, racist, anti-religionistic, cruel to animals, violent, show hatred towards the government and all bodies that enforce their laws, bloody, cruel, ..... and the protagonist is always a criminal, doing criminal acts, shooting innocent bystanders, cops, soldiers (+ animals in GTA V, which is new), steals and robs, drives recklessly and way over the speed limit, and steals and uses secret weapons and vehicles of the government. This is GTA, people. It doesn't show hate towards women only - it shows hate towards everyone and is the mirror of how f*cked up our society is and how corruption is present everywhere (including the law enforcement) and people don't give a rat's ass about it. And if the critics bash GTA V for being too misogynistic, then apparently they didn't do their homework. 1DrfL, The_Wizzard_73, FirstLadyofGTA and 9 others
Fuzzknuckles
Isn't gta 5 supposed to be a satire of America (to be precise L.A)? Indeed it is, but that doesn't mean it's entirely populated with porn stars, strippers and hard nosed sexy-behind-the-pant-suit personal assistants. There's also, y'know, normal people. Thinking about it, the only 'normal' woman that appears in V is summarily dispensed with by Trevor mere seconds after she makes her first appearance. Take that, strong-willed career women, everywhere! Edited September 15, 2014 by Fuzzknuckles FirstLadyofGTA and Detective Phelps 2 Signatures are dumb anyway. Detective Phelps
This reminds me of these "nuns": And this: OK, I admit, the last one was pretty funny, but... ...it's not just GTA. It's all across the video games industry. Sex sells. Now, I know GTA is satirical. However, as Fuzz said, that doesn't mean that all most female characters should be sluts, angry "bitches", or fat. caiaof
Im sure GTA V hates everyone the same, as Xyn said. Exactly. When people say GTA is misogynist they ignore everyone else has they share of hate too. It doesn't matter your sex, genre, age, political view, place of birth, color of skin or religious opinions, GTA has something to offend everyone! GTA is very cynical and you shouldn't play if you can't deal with it. by the way, I think it is funny when I see complaints about misogyny in GTA but they don't give a f*ck about racist jokes. ribon
Now, I know GTA is satirical. However, as Fuzz said, that doesn't mean that all female characters should be sluts. Denise Clinton (Franklin's aunt) - a new age feminist (much like the critics who say GTA is misogynistic) Molly Schultz - Devin Weston's lawyer and vice president and general counsel to Weston's business. Enough said. Patricia Madrazo - Martin Madrazo's wife. She's abused by her husband and despite the fact that Martin even cheated on her on many occasions, she refuses to leave or cheat on him. Again, people, do your homework. This time, read my entire post, instead of cherry-picking: (Updated previous post) OK, most, but not all, women in GTA V are sexualised, that's for sure. This includes Molly, the typical "sexy secretary". Denise was a stereotypical "bitch". You only named 3 characters (only 2 of which who weren't sexed up). You also forgot to mention Tanisha, she wasn't sexualised... or was she?? I can name the following, as sluts/sexualised characters: Tracey Amanda Fufu All the hookers killed for them duplicate adders Chastity (ironic name for a stripper) Juiliet Infernus Cheetah Tonya Molly There are also the "bitches", who are either aggressive, or annoying: Mary-Ann Denise Tanisha Karen And the fat NPCs found on beaches, and Maude. Most, if not all, women in the game are either sluts, fat, or are murderous/angry "bitches". Now you see people here saying that GTA V is portraying women "accurately".
