Are glitches intentional?

Here's a tin foil hat question for you. Is there any chance that Rockstar (or any dev) would put in glitches so that the employees can boost their stats? They are hidden after all. What do you think? Some of the glitches we've had have been so robust and simple that they seem almost intentional. Now they're harder to do and more 'hidden' maybe to stop people from accidentally discovering them? :p

Nah. There are always those weird problems in the game, and, no matter how hidden it is, somebody will find it and somebody will exploit it. Couldn't they easily edit their stats via other means?

edit: inb4 this becomes a "to glitch or not to glitch" thread

From reviews of R star from employees, it sounds like a pretty chappy place to work.

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't care too much about a 10 year olds fake money.

It reminds me of RPGs and the like, where there's one odd tactic or area that makes you go "One hour in and I can take on the final boss? The heck?". It's just a lack of pre-beta/current-gen-distribution play-testing. I know it sounds silly to some, but yea, this was a massive beta-test for the "proper" GTA:O. Just to rub salt in the wounds, I'd bet the credits for next gen have "Thanks to everyone paying to play-test for us. We love sleeping on a bed made of your money."

Boy, am I cynical today...

There are thousands upon thousands lines of code in this game, if not millions.

Checking and re-checking lines of code is both tedious and very time consuming, which is why I don't bother with it anymore :\

You know it gets sad when people are actually questioning this. Sad on R*'s part, that the employees at R* are so incompetent, that they have people questioning their ability to make a playable game.

Most of us R* vets know how sh*tty they are at coding and rendering, with loads of shortcuts and redundant lines of code.

This has been evident in many of their games, just now everyone can see them.

Rockstar puts glitches in to let us have fun, like the launch glitch

And then takes them away, like the gate glitch.

And then proceeds to lie about said removal.

I like to take the romantic view that the devs at R* decided to strike back against the tyranny of Take Two and their heinous money grabbing practices by enabling a glitch to give us easy millions, doing the thing that gained GTA it's notoriety in the first place - killing hookers.

But in reality they probably f*cked up.

Glitches are just that, glitches.

When they're found, they usualyl fix them right away.

The only reason I have about 15000 hours of GTA play in my life and the reason I am on the forum is because I saw the original 2001 news articles expressing outrage that "a player in GTA 3 can visit a hooker and then kill her." Me and everybody else. You're right, that feature alone made GTA the juggernaut it is today. :colgate:

no, R*'s just incompetent

Yes, having your game break all the records in sales makes you incompetent. The richest, most incompetent game developer in the world. Seems legit... :^:

That moment you realize you are a beta tester.

People are discovering glitches and workarounds, it becomes public and relatively widespread through the player base, R* looks in to the various methods and patches the loophole or vulnerability they think was used. All in an attempt to ensure that when GTAO is brought to current gen systems (out of beta) there will be less glitches players can take advantage of.

But of course, nothing is secure and without potential to be exploited, it may just become more difficult or complicated.

Reverse logic.

You make intentional small mistakes to gain other people's attention from your big mistake, which then you troubleshoot them and the deceived people will see you positively and forget your big mistake.

Pretty common thing to see in school days. We call students like this as 'Teacher's Ass-licker'

I was actually thinking about it a while ago. To me it seems that some glitches indeed are intentional. Some of them are definitely an accident but the others are really fishy (like the Fire Truck cannon or Single Player wine mask glitch)

Oh come on, you can't say that. They attract some of the best talent in the industry from around the world. I honestly don't think a developer like Bungie, Crystal Dynamic, Maxis, Treyarch, or Naughty Dog, etc. would not be able to handle the development of a game like this. Most of the issues were mostly likely and completely unexpected. It's like the US military invading Iraq, capturing Saddam Hussein, claiming Mission Accomplished, and then dealing with insurgencies, terror organizations, corruption, civil war and extremist invaders. The development of Story Mode would be akin to the conventional war, and maintaining Online would then be akin to the counterinsurgency and military intelligence used to stabilize the unconventional aspects. In the end, the US military and Rockstar are still the best at what they do.

Wow, I really like my analogy :p
