connection lost due to an unknown network error

I get the error "connection lost due to an unknown network error" several times a day now. Is it my router or something? I'm on a PS3 and never had problems late 2013-early 2014.

OP: I"d start by resetting your router and seeing if it changes anything.

I used to get this but fixed it by opening ports on my router (which can be done automatically with uPnP for most people if enabled). In my case uPnP went nuts, so I had to manually port forward.

 

Rockstar will say something like 'they have an incompatible NAT type' rather than 'oh yeah we shouldn't have matched you with that kid behind 5 firewalls'. They'll also pretend their game works stable in every environment rather than just 'perfect world situations' - which is a bit balls and I hope is addressed on the new consoles.

 

R*s servers have a mind of their own.

 

Game is P2P. When the R* servers go down the issues are different e.g. can't see missions or can't find compatible sessions etc

To be fair the random 2 second freezes are down to the console as well as the complete system freezes.

YES and it's gotten to the point where im trying to be as patient as possible but half the time i can't join any game mode or when im in a middle if a mission or deathmatch, it disconnects me from everyone else and vise versa.

Kind of funny how I completely removed all freezing in GTAO by doing a port forward on my router then eh?

 

The two second freezes are probably a mix of console limitations and lag - they can't do much about that - but the game crashing is completely unacceptable and it's not because of a console hardware fault despite what Rockstar claims.

I've been getting this message since GTAO was released, almost a year ago.

While it's no where near as frequent, I still get it one out of every three sessions.

There's a host of reasons why it "could" be happening, but nothing tangible as of yet.

My only suggestion is, because it actually worked for me, is to clear your cache.
I only know how to do it on an XBox, so if you can find out how on yours, then it may be worth a go.

i get this off and on and frequency changes with patch versions, partly sh*t code i think, partly cheaters/modders exploiting it, cause it happens more often when playing with know modders/cheaters. i think its how they kick you from the session cause i have 30 up/down fiber and ive tried everything from dmz to open ports to upnp to plugging right into the wall for nat type 1 and nothing has any effect except for the next patch version. sh*t ass code mostly.

there will not be another xbox. microsoft is dumping it after this one, theyve lost far too much money on them and its not worth continuing to make them. they have to pay sony so much for the bluray rights they sell them at a loss, lol

I've had this problem since patch 1.15 and it kept cockblocking me from getting beer hats from the special crates (got a bit lucky one night and the game didn't disconnect me 'till after I got my beer hat.) It's not something wrong with your router..just Rockstar's servers and them giving excuses for errors happening. Never had this before 1.15 and I didn't change my internet or anything.

we are deeply sorry to hear about the connectivity issue you are experiencing. However, Rockstar's servers are working perfect currently, so please check out what might be the problem on your side. Please start checking your console Internet setting or LAN Cable (if you're using any) if it plugged correctly. Otherwise:

 

If it's not your console, probably the router

If it's not your router, probably the modem

If it's not the modem, probably the internet provider

If it's not the ISP, probably it's your house

If it's not your house, probably it's your residential location

If it's not your residential location, probably it's your district

If it's not your district, probably it's your town

If it's not your town, probably it's your country

If it's not your country, probably it's the island you're living on

If it's not the island, probably it's the continent you are at

If it's not the continent, probably it's the earth

If it's not the earth, probably it's the moon

If it's not the moon, probably it's the sun

If it's not the sun, probably it's the galaxy

If it's not the galaxy, probably it's the nebula

and so on..

one of most frustating things happens to me alongside freeze , sign out , timed out , redirected to other session ( i.e join friend's job > while at loading , GTAO logo is shown . this indicate you're redirected to other session ) and lag ( flawing my marksmanship , making more challenging to take out lazer jet )

I find I only get connection errors when in busy freeroam sessions, just doing missions and roaming with my partner we never get connection errors, so I think the load on the console does have something to do with it, whenit gets busy rendering 1 million cops and stuff it misses network updates and bang unknown connection error.

I just fixed my error message problem. I bought a new router. In my experience, Netgear routers are not very compatable with Live.

Then there's the other problem on Rockstar's end, the network errors you're referring to, which is not router issue. I noticed that this tends to occur in highly populated lobbies.

I ended up manually port forwarding 3074 UDP to my Xbox, and the game runs 99% perfect - the last 1% only happens when my girlfriend powers up her Xbox and the game gets confused - errors are rare but occasionally it'll crap out when joining jobs.

 

It's god damn frustrating. But in a perfect world scenario the game runs great. I'm stuck with my s**tass router because an equivalent replacement means no support from my ISP and more importantly $200-400 and even then I'm not guaranteed success.

I have my Xbox port forwarded as well and it runs perfectly, but I play the game on PS3. I can't seem to figure out the pinging issue on PS3. I've done everything. The reason I say the one scenario is a router issue only is because my entire connection will experience this interruption. For example, I have an IRC channel running 24/7, and it will ping out the same time as the PS3. The network error, however, seems to only happen in game. I'd be curious to ask you what your settings were if you had a PS3, but I guess I'm SOL.
