Mine is San Andreas' map too. It may not be the most detailed, but it gave me the sense of enormity no other game could ever give me, aside from JC 2 :3

In SA I felt small, like I was just another dude in the world, the map was huge and being in LS knowing there's a lot more cities, villages and such made me feel warm and fuzzy.

Next to that one is Vice City's because of the islands in the middle and the beautiful beach. And third one is a tie between GTA IV and GTA V

SA's map. Why? Cuz each part (Los Santos, San Fierro, Las Venturas, The Country, and the Desert) had it's own identity and felt different. Whereas V, it may be a huge map, but everywhere you go feels the EXACT same. Same annoying peds saying the same annoying bullsh*t. No sense of atmosphere whatsoever.

HD Liberty City would be my second pick, though.

San Andreas map was ridiculously ahead of its time. Even though now, maps well more detailed exist, not any of these can compare with the diversity and the scale of San Andreas.

Every place has its own particular atmosphere, with three big and totally unique cities, an arid and secluded desert, creepy forests etc etc ...

The map was so well designed, that we have the impression that the major cities are separated by hundreds of miles.

GTA San Andreas would be my pick too.

But, honestly, each game I've played have never disappointed me with the map layout.

Given the time, the series is in, HD maps now offer a lot more incredible attention to details, and unbelievably good immersion, which are considered one of the best, not only of the series, but also among any other open world game out there!

San Andreas map was nothing short of revolutionary for it's time, and even featuring not one, two, but three cities, with an amazing countryside to get away from the urban commotion.

There's a lot I could continue to write about the map, basically, it's definitely not just one for me.

But, for the topic, I would love to go with the nostalgia here, totally!

IV map was the best. IMO SA map is overrated, just like the map. IV was small, but detailed in every single place. You felt like you entered a new place if you went from Algonquin to Alderney, or Bohan to Algonquin.

In regards of detail, i would say Liberty City in IV. Exploring SA was amazing too. So many places you could get lost in.

SA had the best map layout, but IV has the most detailed.

In fact GTA V has the most detailed map because it's A LOT bigger and it has the same if not a higher level of detail as IV. You can't deny it.

My favourite map is HD Los Santos & Blaine County because it is the most realistic and beautiful representation of Southern California/ Los Angeles in a video game ever and because L.A. is my favourite city.

My all-time favourite location in the GTA series is III Era Los Santos, but taking it as a whole San Andreas map, HD Era Liberty City takes the top because San Fierro and Las Venturas (especially SF) couldn't appeal me too much. However, as a whole map, HD Liberty City. The whole boroughs are extremely drawn right into game, and it's what makes Liberty City feel alive, realistic. All Broker, Bohan, Dukes, Algonquin, Alderney... all of them make me feel that way and each of these boroughs were distinctive, totally.

The 3D era Liberty City is stunning for a 2001 open world game. Even if, obviously, it wouldn't live up the expectation we have nowadays in term of open world, I still enjoy free roaming in L.C.

The city is full of diversity and each district has its own ambiance, even if the overall layout is somewhat "linear" (residential/commercial/industrial). The biggest flaw design wise is maybe the awful "two-tone" street layout in Shoreside Valle.

Something I remember well was the big ass hills covering the whole north ridge of the map. If you go there on foot, then walk heading east, the atmosphere tends to become very unique. It's just pure silence and devoid of any kind of life. The first time I've been there, it was the very first time I found myself secluded in a GTA game, and it was kinda creepy !

Vice City ... an other groundbreaking map made in R* ! I still play the game sometimes on Xbox, and my mind is still blown away by how well designed the city is. From the gritty streets of Little Haiti to the sun soaked and living beach of Vice Beach, there's no room for uninteresting places ! The day/night and weather cycle is, by far, the best in the 3D era, and the draw distance was amazing. These elements tend to make the map more enjoyable. The street layout may seems uncanny at first, but personally I love it.

Ok, it was just my 2 cents review.

Portland indeed is badass. III is ranked, along with LCS, very high for me. So simplistic, yet such a great atmosphere and place to be.

3D era San Andreas takes my vote. HD era Liberty City is a very close second. Third place would go to 3D era Liberty City.

HD Liberty City. Really uses the dark-gritty storyline, and with the time set to autumn, it looked so damn gorgeous.

3D San Andreas comes to second. It felt enormous, and some places actually are deserted. It may be less detailed, but everything was in proportion.

Now why I can't multi vote?

I view SA, V and IV all equally. I mean, SA has the best forest, IV has the best city derails, V has the best size, and maybe not as good as SA, it has a great countryside.
