TLaD ending was so anticlimatic and disappointing...

Recommended Posts

GTA_BR89

I've just beaten TLaD, and I wonder if I'm the only one who thinks TLaD's ending was very anticlimatic. First we hear from Ashley that Jim was killed, off-screen, which is completely lame IMHO. It was unexpected and not very well explained. I was like "WTF man, that's really lazy writing" . Worse is then Billy being killed by Johnny; even if you chose to perform an execution with a pistol, the subsequent dialogue was just uninteresting. The ending was really lacking, it felt empty, and we don't get that vengeful feeling.

A perfect ending for me would be Billy being released from jail and murdering Jim, so Johnny would have a real motive to eliminate Billy, or something around that. I. BTW, the credits were kinda lame as well, I didn't think the song played fit the mood very well, but maybe I'm just nitpicking. IV's ending was much better, especially the deal ending, where a tragedic event happens which really messes with Niko, who then pursuits vengeance with all his efforts; we actually feel fulfilled for killing the antagonist.

I'd say it was a lot better than TBOGT's.

No. The real anticlimatic ending in GTA was V's.

I'm just going to ignore that part about Every Picture Tells A Story... Anyway, Niko killed Jim in the mission No Way On The Subway, and the ending wasn't about Revenge on Billy. It was about Johnny saving himself and the rest of The Lost by killing Billy who was going to rat them out to FIB... You don't have to like the mission or the ending, but please get the facts right.

It's not all about that, Bulgarin wouldn't leave them alone. I found the storyline very interesting and funny, but I wish Armando and Henrique would had more plot on the main story. And Bulgarin has blowned up the jet, not Luis.

Jim's death in TLaD was offscreen, but its only because we were the ones who killed him on screen in IV and already knew that the bad news was coming when Ashley brings it up to Johnny. In Terms of the ending feeling anticlimactic, the game is called The Lost and Damed for a reason. This gang was cursed the day Billy came back and nothing they could of done could fix it. Johnny doesn't kill Billy for revenge at all, he kills him to be free despite knowing his gang is completely done. Johnny spends the entire game trying to correct all of Billy's mistakes and be the better man. By the end Johnny has changed from the counter culture he has been stuck in for most of his life. Unfortunately V shows us that nothing changed at all.

The reason Jim dies off screen is because we kill him as Niko in GTA IV.

I somewhat agree. The actual assault on the Prison was done very well, it's the segment after you kill Billy that kills it. You can just ride your bike back to the clubhouse totally unmolested. I would have loved if they'd extended the mission like a scriped chase from the police or Boccino's guys, perhaps with some railshooting like Shifting Weight. The mission itself is especially undercooked compared to most other final missions in GTA games.

I forgot Jim was capped by Niko in IV haha, my bad. I stand corrected. I agree that revenge was not Johnny's main goal, though. I hope I enjoy TBoGT more.

How the f*ck did that happen? - Terry :)

It was pretty good for a DLC anyway.

While a little over-the-top and ridiculous, I thought it was very climactic, easily the best ending in any of the games I've played. Namely, because it didn't have a happy ending. You should definitely do the post-game phone calls if you haven't already. Stubbs reminds Johnny that his chivalrous values just can't prevail in a time like the present and a place like Liberty.

Billy's execution just felt so... candid. Like two former best friends / apprentice-mentor ending it. In the movies, the "sad assassination" cliche is either miserably drawn out or met with a long-winded speech that you'd never expect someone to so elegantly muster up in the face of death.

Billy knew he was f*cked. "Are you expecting a speech or something?" And even after all Billy did to f*ck Johnny, he still couldn't pull the trigger until Billy provoked him. So much history erased in perfect silence.

Next was the ride back to the house. Johnny saved himself, Terry, Clay, and maybe your misc biker-backup, but why? Holy sh*t, Jim's dead. Jason's dead. Pretty much all of the Lost was wiped out. They have more enemies than they can count. Johnny letting everything sink in, and trying to convince himself "Billy needed to be shut up! Man, five years ago, he woulda' led the charge into Alderny State himself!"

And of course, what was really impacting was the clubhouse. Seeing Johnny's spiritual touchstone, Angus, for the second and last time. Johnny, Terry, and Angus don't seem surprised or all that upset, like they knew this was destined to happen, either from the feds, from other gangs, from the inside of the club, or all three. All three of the characters were just so well-represented in their stoic dialogue. God I especially love Angus' speech.

Angus: Johnny.
Johnny: Hey.
Terry: Hey.

Angus: We had fun here.
Johnny: Yeah, we did. But it's over.
Terry: Yeah it is. How the f*ck did that happen?
Angus: You know how it happens. It's that f*cked up part of people which means
good is never good enough. I mean it wasn't enough that we had to be
drug dealers, we also had to be outlaws, to be maniacs, to be psychos,
and to be greedy.
Terry: That combination of greed and f*cked up stupidity, that works well. If
you're in the government. Not so good if you're a f*ckin' crook.
Johnny: Ain't that the truth. Go ahead... Let's put this place out of its
misery.
Angus: Yeah, do what you gotta do.
Johnny: Come on, man. Let's get out of here.

I think you meant: They didn't have to sacrifice good story to have good gameplay, or I'm wrong.

And no I wasn't expecting a speech the last time I went to kill Billy, I just spammed my Street Sweeper the second I saw him

I think the fact they retconned Jim's appearance made his 'death' far less memorable. I am well known for an unlikely conspiracy that Jim wasn't dead and Niko killed a decoy with Stubbs and his wife Jackie assisting in the deception which is why it still gets reported as Jim being killed. The theory is better documented elsewhere but the gist is that this is supported by the missing two million Johnny takes from the libertonian that is never accounted for and the guy who is supposedly Jim, the one who Niko kills is seen alongside the actual Jim.

Still considering how memorable Jim is as a character it's not surprising you felt his death was off. If they didn't do the retcon and had him as he was in tlad the entire time you'd have probably remembered when seeing him and having an oh sh*t moment when you remember killing this guy with no idea who he was.

Personally I still dream of the conspiracy theory that they'll come back to. It sure as hell makes gta v easier to swallow.

We all have our opinions concerning the ending of TLaD.

Personally, I'd like to see a stronger The Lost at the end of the game, instead of being in ruins.

It's great to share thoughts about better endings, but take it as real life, sometimes, you don't get what you expect, and you have to face reality and the sad situations you have to live.

For instance, no one of us would ever want a person of our families to die in an accident, but sometimes, it tragically happens.

Would be great to change the ending, but, we received that, we should face that.

My point of view, obviously.

Johnny was letting all of the bad times go up in smoke and realizing his loss....? F-ing dumarse rockstar seriously needs to add a spin on the end of the stories, not just what the problem was from the first or second mission. Ray Bulgarin, "F this amateur sht." Then walks in house because Timur got shot 600times and died failing the mission in tbogt
