If i upgrade to PS4 for GTA online can I kiss playing on PS3 goodbye, yeah? As in, once I make the move there is no going back?

 

IF R* decide to display sound logic for a change, they will make it so you get a full character duplication to your chosen platform AND your character also remains accessible on your original platform. This way people can still play with Friends who have not made the Jump to the New Platforms (or jumped to a different New Platform) and will also safeguard against Permanent Character losses during the transfer since R* could for example manually intervene to permit another transfer attempt in a similar fashion to resetting Licence Plates.

 

At the very least I would expect your character to remain on the Original platform unchanged. The game is about having fun, I do not care if I need to split my progression between two platforms (if this was possible) in exchange for being able to get the best of both Worlds. Play with ALL friends and get improved graphics etc.

 

Time will tell and the exact shape of the transfer will strongly influence my decision to jump to PS4 or not.

300k? You can earn that playing 3 hours of contact missions. You'd think the bonus would have been a limited edition car or something.

I will sit back and watch with pleasure. I'm waiting for others to be guinea pigs for the transfer. Besides, I've been playing this game for a year...it's not new, so patiently waiting for others to suffer through the inevitable bugs that will happen, is just logical.

I'm waiting for something to make me buy it for PS4, for the moment i'm thinking about getting it for the Xbox One because of the controller but if it's like on CE version that has more 3 cars, 3 guns, new clothes and challenges then it would be cool!

Bugs have nothing to do with a console being overworked.

 

Most of the time, it's the actual game.

 

And in rockstargames case, it's the game. Now yes, the game may have been pushing the console too far, especially the 360.

 

But no way in hell am I trusting them with my 546 million, and them be like "whoops, the cloud didn't save properly. You lose everything, please try again"

 

Again, I will stand by my statement, that I will wait a few days and see how others play out with transferring their characters and garages, cars etc. If it works for 95 percent of people first day, cool, I'll start it.

The other is on Xbox, level 110+ with a few mill and tons of great cars (the one I play as all the time right now, because all of my friends are on Xbox).

 

Would I be able to put my Xbox character on my PS4 version of GTA, and still be able to play as him on Xbox?

Apparently, this is what we know so far. As to whether or not you can revert back to your Xbox to use the character you transferred to PS4 is unknown at this point. I would assume it's not doable. If you look at the history of games that offered progress-transfers to next-gen consoles, you'll notice that switching platforms was allowed, ie. 360 to PS4, PS3 to X1. You could not, however, return to the old console and continue to play with the account you transferred to a different platform. Only similar platforms were capable of doing this, ie. 360 to X1, PS3 to PS4.

 

But who knows, Rockstar might be able to find a way to seamlessly transfer progress from platform to platform on their end. I sure hope so, I'm going from PS3 to X1, and I don't want to leave my PS3 friends behind. The waiting game begins!

The only stupidity is those who doubt that money, cars, weapons, etc. will transfer over. Rockstar did not say "money and level" will transfer, they said "progress" would transfer. Everything you have since you started is part of your progress.

You're the one making an assumption which you dont have more to base on than anyone thinking its just level being transferred, "progress" might just mean level and nothing else. We cannot take anything for certain hence me asking if anyone knows more. You obviously dont.

I'm confident that everything will transfer. Your analogy is terrible...one thing has nothing to do with the other. I never claimed not to be making an assumption, but I'm not "the one", as you are ALSO making assumptions by deciding that transfer only means money and rank based on what has been said.

 

And if it doesn't? Simple. I don't upgrade and take a nice vacation or something, then come back in 3 to 5 years when the next game comes out for half the price. Either way, I win.
