Better City Blackout

Recommended Posts

I've ever imagine if the whole Liberty City is swallowed by darkness and then, I found somebody made a timecyc mod and it reminds me the city blackout in JulioNIB's WatchDogsIV mod. Why don't JulioNIB make something like that?

Reason: that is a timecyc mod, not scripting.

But in my opinion, JulioNIB can make a script to switch into another timecyc during blackout mode.

Just because JulioNIB is great at making mods, doesn't mean that switching the timecyc is possible (or even be considered, because what if the player has ENB?).

It's just a suggestion and I thought that It's possible at first.

It could be possible, but very unlikely that it would be for certain reasons like...

  • the GTAIV.exe process using the file (and cannot be edited because of that)
  • or the file not being reloaded by the game (because it only gets loaded at startup)

And then you run into the problem of people having ENBs (or timecyc mods in general). Replacing the file with the dark one would remove the current ENB/timecyc mod... which would not make people happy.

It's is a good idea, but it has it's flaws.

probably you can use cheat engine to find where the time cycle data gets loaded then write a script to access the address and edit the values at runtime... people have made mods similiar for editing the values loaded by the handling.dat and weaponinfo.xml.

@Micheal

If you want the better blackout effect you need to edit the timecyc.dat. The Lines are given when you download Watch Dogs IV. in a txt file

P.S I Though you were a fictional character.

What I really want is a complete darkness, where there's no light at all including the buildings. It's just a suggestion..

Lights Thing is mapping. It is impossible to Map with a script. you add/remove Ipl's but not easy as you think, It is used when making a destruction. Like Ship,RomanCabDepot, etc

The Trick That Julio Does is use an unused weather from the game.(probably the ones which were in the beta stage) He Modifys that weather and make it night but make the game think it is morning so there will be no lights. and please reupload your image.

and you are not asking for a code niether you are a modder. You are requesting A Script. So Please avoid spamming and Post it here.

I ain't requesting, I'm just suggesting. Maybe there's a modder who knows how to do this thing, then that's why I make this thread.

when developing the blackout feature in WDIV mod i found some interesting timecycle mods that cause a nice blackout/similar effect, but, the big problem is that it completely inverts the day to night and night to day (to make the lights in buildings and lamp poles turn off), this is why i didnt used it, considering my experience with mod users i imagine that they would dislike the use of that idea because sometime in the game the night would be a day and the day would be a night if they are in that "weather". Would be really interesting be able to disable/turn off buildings lights, i didnt researched too much, blackout was a feature that i not even wanted to make in that mod, made a basic thing just because people was asking too much.

srry for my english

i actually know of a hackerish (unintentional result) way to blackout the city and i did it on accident.

I was able to reliably turn off every light in gta by setting some property (position i think) on a Light object a bad value. It happened when I was making my flashlight mod. I'll see if I can reproduce and make a video. Was working on the project months ago... maybe longer i forget but i do remember i was blacking out the city.

BTW I have seen people properly blackout the city (or maybe it was traffic lights... i forget) but the point is if you can find the bit flag that turns lights on and off and set, then u can control the city's lights. You need to be good at debugging the game and have reversing skills to do that stuff. To mod GTA and do whatever you want you can't just rely on the scripthooks and native functions.

O-O wow.. lol.. that IS dark... would be useable if you could then light the scene on your own, but I have a feeling the 'bug' borks the whole lighting engine. I'm assuming you're doing something like"

GTA.Native.Function.Call("DRAW_LIGHT_WITH_RANGE", Player.Position.x, Player.Position.y, Player.Position.z, 255, 255, 255, 25f, -1f)

Where the last parameter, range, obviously should be a positive value, yes?

i believe that arg is the intensity, but no... you set the lights position with NaN values and then draw it in perframedraw (how scripthookdotnet does it)

new Light(Color.White, 1f, 1f, new Vector3(float.NaN, float.NaN. float.NaN)).Enabled = true;//blackout

ah okay. do any lights drawn after that produce light?

I would check myself, but I'm trying to get away from GTA. At least for a while. It's like meth x_x..

never tried to draw lights after but i have a feeling no lights would work. It also looks like that bug is not just affecting lighting but textures themselves. Which is why I think everything is black.
