Any country music listeners here?

Recommended Posts

I notice there's threads for nearly every other genre but i haven't seen any country ones. So either i'm just blind(i did do a search and didn't see anything) or there's either none or not enough country listeners here to have a thread about country music. But if those people are on this forum feel free to post here about anything country. your favourite song, artist, a rant, whatever. doesn't matter if it's new or old country you like, let's get this thread going. and if there's already a thread for this just point me too it, like i said, i did a search and didn't see anything but it could be that i'm just blind.

I'm not a big fan of most of what passes for country music these days--and for the past few decades--and I think folks are generally eager to write the entire genre off for the same reason. The reality is, there's some really kickass folk/country/bluegrass music out there, you just gotta do some digging and sifting. But yeah, let's get the ball rolling.

yeah the problem with country is that it's just pop music today.

it's completely without substance.

you could take any of the top country male or female artists, swap them out for each other's bands, and when they started playing again it would all sound exactly the same. they all look, sound, and act exactly the same. modern country music is as bad as modern rap. Johnny Cash and Bonnie Raitt would be rolling in their graves... if Bonnie weren't still alive.

I'm a fan of - what we now have to unfortunately call - 'classic' country.

also, bluegrass. bluegrass is awesome.

I can agree that there's not a lot of substance in new country anymore. I won't say i don't listen to some of this new pop-like country, but it's definitely not as good as the older stuff. Obviously there are exceptions but they're few and far between. Ever listen to Josh Turner? I don't think he's actually released any singles in at least a year(I think his latest was "Time is Love" a year or 2 ago) but in my opinion he does new country how it should be done. This one's my favourite song by him and the music video just makes it better me thinks.

I also flipped when i heard General Lee by Johnny Cash in GTA V, it's one of my favourite songs from him if not my most favourite. too bad there's no Imponte Dukes in the game or i would've been doing nothing but painting it orange with the mercenary wheels and driving it through Blaine County doing stunts and running from police.

One thing I never got about country music was how nearly all the male singers these days sound similar. Either they all have a deep voice or some autotuned thing. I dunno though, maybe it's just me.

I dunno if this counts as "country" though, but it's got the vibes.

Even if you look at most classic country the male singers nearly all had deep voices. guess it's just harder to get a country feel with high voices? I really have no idea.

This. Pop music with a twangy guitar added in. Unfortunately that's all you really hear around my area.

I never really got into country, outside of Johnny Cash and a few songs.

I like Outlaw Country, like Waylon Jennings and Johnny Paycheck, classic Country, like Johnny Cash and Hank Williams, and bluegrass, like Jerry Reed. Real redneck sh*t.

Especially this one:

I enjoy 'outlaw' Country music from guys like Waylon Jennings, and the Highwaymen.

I have K-Rose to thank for introducing me to classic country.    Cruising around Red County on a Sanchez or a Quad listening to those old tunes was/is just awesome.
