What's considered having "skill" in GTA online?

skill?

Nope. Never seen it yet. I'm not being sarcastic. Granted it probably does happen, not enough for me to have seen't it. Never seen someone sniped outta the tank either when it was possible. I've mini gunned two dudes outta jets, and I can't say they were good pilots. And one guy has killed me 40 times with a jet, and I never killed him until I got into a jet myself.

I'm not saying jets are uber, but the bear vs. shark debate is old.

Skill? GTA Online barely takes any. All you need is basic hand-eye co ordination and a basic understanding of the game to be successful. The driving and gunfights are so basic and watered down that you'd might as well flip a coin to see who wins a gunfight/race.

48 times to be exact... http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/games/gtav/career/stats/gtaonline/combat

TO be fair though after it was jet to jet, he did quit. And I was trying to snipe him and mini gun him from the jet without using a bridge or tunnel. I've never looked up jet sniping to see how the skilled players do it. So I guess that takes skill, and depending on your internet connection luck. So again. GTA doesn't require as much skill as you'd think.

And to my arch enemies credit look at his 23,000 player kills to my 3,000!

His 80 something days to my 31... He loves to glitch money too. LMFAO! So whattabout skill in GTA?

Earning money in jobs and not glitching it.

THIS.... I dunno why most peoples stats look like this...

These are my stats. Since day one online...

One of us had our character rolled back. And I haven't played the game in a week now. I have taken about a two month break from the game total.

How relaxed you are after being killed or if you lose a race. More relaxed = More skill lol

I ram in all my races 95% of the time... Not a single person who pm mr, asks me to stop. They are either yelling at me, cussing me out, or just plain complaining. If they were relaxed and calmly asked me to race legit, I would..

Lol but... this is gta, no such thing as relaxed

LMFAO! Are you on PSN... We'll do a non contact race. I'll be cool as a cucumber. We might even race muscle too. STOCK. You'll see some skill. I promise.

I'll chime in on this - it sounds like the debate is around tactics, and which ones are acceptable.

I'm forced to agree with a poster above - outside of glitching/modding, there is no tactic available to any player that is not available or avoidable by any other player. In other words, all PvP problems have PvP solutions.

It's not like people own Lazers - they have to go thru a fairly annoying process to get one (or drop $5K for Blind Eye). Even Tanks and Buzzards have to be collected from certain fixed points, so there's a pretty big weakness right there.

With the changes to the way Tanks work (they're more like heavily-armed armored cars now) they're easier than ever to take out with the oh-so-popular Rain of Stickies).

Changes to Insurance and BS points have rendered the "driving backwards/no rear window" tactic void - anyone with a grenade can solve that problem now.

Everything they do, you can do. Buzzard? They spawn. Minigun? Finish a Survival and you've got one too, Mr Rank 30. Lazer? You know where to find one of your own, and even Lazers can't shoot into the subways (entrances to which are all over the place).

If all else fails, you can change sessions in about 5 seconds - or, if for some reason that's not a option, join a random job and quit from the first screen - you'll get put down at the starting point for that job, but (usually) in the same session. Foolproof escape from anything.

It sucks getting done over, especially by a cheap move - but you can't expect everyone to abide by our own personal codes of honor - it's far more reasonable to expect everyone to employ every possible tactic to win. Can't really blame anyone for that.

I'm assuming the OP is really referring to skill when engaged in PVP battles.

In that case, I just want to say that if I am whooping your ass with my special carbine and you run off and get your tank, that's not skill.

Also, I highly respect the jet pilots that can actually kill me. In my opinion, that is amazing. I always over or under fire my missiles, but plan to get beast at it one day.

Finish a deathmatch that has purchasable and collectible weapons only with a basic pistol (no AP).

skill is going above and beyond winning.

winning races with cars that arent the best in the class

winning deathmatches with guns that are weak.

thats what true skill is.

Apparently combat rolling every 4 seconds.

Timing up the rolls, yes.

Rolling every microsecond, not really.

Yeah, there is a sort of unspoken rule about rolling where he who rolls first usually dies first.

Greatness in this game is measured by how superior you feel to everyone else. Hence why free-aim/non-super using people feel the need to express their superiority on these forums.

Motherf*cking this!!!

This is post begins to cover what is one of the greatest problems with the GTA Online community: Everybody wants other people to play the game, the way they want to play the game. If somebody just wants to do motorbike stunts with their friends, they get mad when random people start shooting at them. When somebody just wants to rob stores and kill cops, they get mad when somebody interferes and botches their robbery or kills them. When somebody just wants to shoot other people with rifles, they get mad when somebody comes over in a jet. And none of them have any right to get mad.

You cannot reasonably expect to impose your style of play on other people. You cannot enforce your arbitrary rules. They do not exist. They exist only in your head, and perhaps the heads of whatever friends of yours are in that session. You have to accept the reality that there are no rules, and there is no code of conduct. If you don't like the way people behave in a particular lobby, either find another one or go invite only.

Advice like this can help you not only in GTA, but also in life. If people are bothering you, you are free to leave. Just don't come on GTA forums later and complain that "[such and such weapon or vehicle] is overpowered because I am too lazy to figure out a way to counter it." Stop trying to interfere with the way other people play the game, and find a way to play it your own way without begging Rockstar to break other people's toys so that you can play with your own whenever and wherever you want.

Not having to pull out an RPG or a Minigun to kill people on foot. Or, not running people over and actually engaging in gun battles with people. If I'm getting shot at, I'm going to step up and get out of my car and return fire. But not a lot of people have the decency to do that and instead opt for vehicular massacres. I can understand killing in a jet or tank as much as it annoys me, but true skill develops over time with practice against other skilled players, so when you're constantly killing in a tank or jet...it's hard to tell.

Then again, I've been sitting in Bad Sport for over a month now so I've forgotten how people in public lobbies act.

I suppose if you want to get into some intense, lengthy duels with the best of the best, I'd go for Bad Sport. You learn to make use of skills like "Off the Radar" and you instinctively know where to find better cover. Why? Because its a constant fight for domination and survival 24/7. You develop more acute skills as well.

I'd also say "Free Aim" lobbies are a million times better than the traditional and more popular "Auto Aim" ones. The only reason I'm in "Auto Aim" is because there's more people to play with. But if you want true skill, I'd go to "Free Aim".

The REAL skill is the score a hole in one in Golf.

This!

I scored three hole in ones and one albatros in 150 games

Meh.

While Free Aim undoubtedly requires more skill than Auto Aim, I still do not see the Free Aim shooting in this game as very deep, relative to other shooters. Contrast this with other "traditional" GTA modes like racing, where there are definitely flaws but true skill still generally tends to show through. It is certainly an improvement over the ridiculous way Auto Aim is implemented in this game.

That said, I have been jumping back and forth between Free Aim and Auto Aim lobbies more often of late, and the people in Free Aim are actually much more annoying. They have a massive superiority complex. The moderate increase in the amount of skill required and allowed for in Free Aim lobbies does not nearly justify the massive increase in ego that the Free Aim guys possess. Every time some guy shoots me in Free Aim, they seem to make a really, really big deal out of it on their microphones. It's like, dude, you only killed me once, and I wasn't even paying attention to my surroundings. Start talking sh*t once I actually engage you and you begin to pile up a lead. Bragging about killing somebody for the first time in Free Mode seems a little premature.

Skill is being able to survive by any means necessary without glitching etc.

Jets, Tanks, Buzzards, Sniping from a building, reverse zentorno's, off radar kills, minigun, auto shotgun, abusing passive mode.

Don't complain if any of these kill ya. If you're a player that uses these tactics, you're smart. If not, you're probably those weak players that be on the mic like "get out that jet and fight on the ground".

Its Grand Theft Auto, you weren't complaining when you were using cheat codes in San Andreas right? So why complain when you get wacked by the above?

Fight like a man? Nah, I fight to survive :pirate:

Nothing, it is a video game, kid.

There is no skill involved when playing a video game. It's all about who can push their button faster. So I guess if you want to consider "fast button pushing" a skill... than I guess, that's would be what I consider having skill in GTA online.
