Soft-body Physics on Next Gen?

LeakyLine

Recommended Posts

We all know limitations are expanded on next gen. So, stupid DLCs(not being specific) or not, things will be possible on NG that are NOT possible on current gen.

So could soft-body physics for cars be used? The game will probably run on a new engine.

Pros of this:

*car crashes in roleplays would be more interesting

*Demolition Derbies would be more fun

*The 12 year olds who can't race might die out a little

*People like me who like to screw up jumps to wreck cars would get hours of fun added

Cons:

*Unintentional crashes might ruin you

*Being chased by a Cradder with a C4-wielding-arm sticking out would be much more dangerous(could be a pro, depending on player preference)

They would obviously have to rework the exploding-on-impact thing though.

And mods, this isn't a concept, or a wishlist. Please no lock.

while I would love for the cars to crumple more realistically I can say with 99% certinty that they wont make a whole new engine to re-release GTAV. Only if it was a new game aka GTAVI or GTA6

no. at the most, i would say that we would see the durability from gta 4, with the damage effects from gta 5.

I hope they add soft body physics, as in people's heads are not 99% intact after being exploded by a shotgun.

Cars crumple really easily offline and that might be where it needs to stay. I'm not sure how well that'll work online.

I just want wheels to fall off after I smash into somebody's entity at 130 MPH

What makes you think the game will run on a new engine? You do know that it is going to be a port right? Not like actually a brand new game that comes with it's own brand new engine. You will get better graphics, more grass, maybe a few animals here and there. That is it. None of this "new engine" crap.

Actually, there is a new engine, as seeing as we are getting 3d grasses and tree.

To have better "graphic" you need a new engine, or at least an updated one.

So it's just not a port.

Its not a new engine, it's like changing the graphics settings to maximum on a pc game...with next gen rockstar had the ability to do that

The "engine" contols things like the pysics of the game or how things in the game works, not the graphics. Next gen will just get enhanced textures and maybe shaders

Realistic damage physics sounds AWESOME until you play the game and destroy the vehicle every 30 seconds.

I love me some realism, but not completely sure I'd love it in GTA. In something like Forza, it would be epic however :)

A re-mastered version is just a port that has been shined up.

And no you are not getting new things, you are getting things from single player that the hardware can now handle in online.

Unrelated, but liked the damage in IV a lot better than IV.

IV = crash into the wall with a speeding Sabre & enjoy driving with 3 wheels, if alive.

V = crash into the wall with a speeding Adder and... nothing happens.

The cars feel like toys in V & drive around corners like some miniature RC cars with Formula One speed. In IV they felt heavy, and you could really cause some damage with a fast Hummer. In V? You could crash a Panto 100 times, it would still drive.

Exactly, I think people need to look up what a port actually means. Look at trees for instance, they have been remodelled. Its like this 'port' is the new buzz word which people use without knowing what it actually means much like ecosystem. Noone seems to understand what an ecosystem actually means and have started using it incorrectly to try and describe a techological system. This sh*t does my head in!

They did say updated damage effects....

Maybe they can also rework the fire damage, because you totally won't be hospitalized when hit by a Molotov right?

It's not that GTA V's crashing is more forgiving than GTA IV's, It's that GTA V added upgrades that counter it (armor and bulletproof tires) and some effects are turned off in multiplayer. GTA V's effects are much harsher than GTA IV's. People don't notice however because most of their time is likely in Online with their own personal car. Drive recklessly in Story Mode and your car or yourself won't make it out.

Impossible, soft body physics like in Rigs of Rods and BeamNG will never be added on console, maybe rigid body physics, maybe.

100% no.

Seriously, just f*cking forget it. It will never happen on this gen for GTA.

They're not using a new engine. Why? Because it would be too much work. They would have to redevelop the entire game. Also you don't need a new engine to add grass or change the tree mesh.

Take the unity engine for example. You can change texture res. Shadow detail. Add trees grass or mass place them. I think the same things apply to the RAGE engine.

What we need is better bullet wounds and blood effects. The current ones are pitiful. Absolute crap. A big step back from Max Payne 3. In fact, even GTA IV looked better in that regard and there weren't even proper bullet holes.

CrysisAverted

Don't forget that you will no longer have people in Super's driving at extremely high speeds in free roam because of fear of crashing and flying out the winshield

Exactly, most people have quite heavily armoured vehicles now in GTA online and they take a bashing.
