Police car icon (same idea as tank icon for cop cars)

Maybe that's how r* can tell who is ai or not. I remember reading why they removed it because they couldn't tell who was who. So taking the tank icon idea they they did and applying it to the cop cars maybe that's how we can tell who is who and possibly make the cars storable again.

There is also no advantage or special powers involved with a police car - so it's not really of any interest - unlike a tank which blows up every car in sight.

If I understand you correctly, you want players who are in police vehicles to have a cop car icon on the map? If so, I don't see the point, it's not a roughly 100 ton war vehicle that shoots explosives, it's just a police vehicle that can be easily destroyed or outrun like any other car on the street.

Did R* really remove storable cop cars because people were pretending to be cops and kill other players?
Players avoid AI cops so player cops shouldn't be different. I'm sure they removed them because no two-bit gangster working for Gerald would own a f*cking cop car.
