Dry Docking (1-4 players) is it impossible to solo on hard?

I've done dry docking solo before, because it shows as completed in my list, but I'm not sure if I'd done it on hard.

I just got a random invite from Lester or whoever it is, started it on hard, can't get a chance to crack the safe as Merryweather guys keep coming up the stairs and the break between them just isn't long enough to get more than one number.

It should really be a 2 player minimum.

Anyone else noticed this?

It can be very challenging if you're not prepared for it. I like doing this mission solo and here's how I do it.

- First thing to do is stock up on snacks and ammo like any other mission, but buy as much tear gas as you can because you're going to need it.

- Make your way into the building and up the stairs to the safe. Before attempting to crack the safe, you're have to keep Merryweather goons off your ass and they're be coming fast when you get in the same room with the safe. Lay down a trail of tear gas from the top of the stairs to the safe. Don't skimp out on the tear gas, lay down a lot especially by the room doorway because the goons like to take cover right there. Also lay down some inside the doorway. When you've got a cloud of tear gas, crack the safe and do it as fast as you can. They'll do a little damage so make sure your health is full before cracking the safe. If things goes according to plan you should be able to crack the safe and not have to worry about dying.

- Fight your way back to the boat. When you've cleared the area, jump in and out the boat, a helicopter will be coming along with two boats. You'll never make it even if you do take out the boats, the guys in the helicopter will be serving your ass like a Thanksgiving turkey. Run back toward the building but take a left to the building beside it. There's a spot in back of the building where you can take cover behind some cargo containers and it will shield you from the helicopter. If you can take out the chopper with a sniper rifle cause sometimes he'll just sit and hover. When you take out the chopper, the rest is pretty easy.

I just pm'ed Crunch MC Thornbody, so the credit goes to him. He said he drove a car up one of the stairways and blocked the other stairway with his tank which allowed time for you to crack the safe. I am thinking you could do this with two cars, but I have yet to try it. I will report back when I have as the mission is very frustrating. He said he used a panto for the car.

Something I failed to mention, when I cleared the safe room, I ran up to the safe and put my back against the side of it (left side facing the safe) and threw tear gas from there. As soon as you get into the room Merryweather will up their pursuit and send two or three at a time, so take them out and wait for a small pause and then throw your tear gas at one time. Merryweather will still keep coming but they will run into your cloud of gas and won't survive for long. Timing is very important here, because you need to crack the safe as quick as you can before your tear gas runs out.

It's a pain in the ass, but it's not impossible:

So it took me about 5 hours to crack, but I did it eventually, what I did was block all the doors. Unless you have hours to kill, I would recommend just taking a friend, you will need in in a few minutes vs hours for me.

This is how I did it.

1. First car I blocked the steps on the left hand side if you face the front of the building. I used a mini

2. 2nd car I blocked the front door

3. 3rd car I blocked the right door (I used my zentoro, so I could get in and out with ease)

4. 4th car, I blocked the inside door on the right

5. 5th car, I blocked the door at the back.

As long as you have cars in your garage, you can call all of them. A couple of things to remember, when you call your car and place it, you need to call another to leave it in place. Once you call your 2nd car, you cannot move your first car, but it does serve as nice blockades. Regular cars off the street DO NOT work, as these disappear after each restart or you leave the current area, so you must use cars from your garage.

If you hit RESTART (not replay), your car will still be there, so you only have to do that once. You can die and restart the mission as many times as you need.

The catch with the cars, is you need to call your 2nd car before you die else you will need to put the car back in place. So the way I did it, I placed the car, then ran down the road and called my 2nd car.

I used the container to hide in near the door from the helicopter, but I eventually just called my buzzard and had it nearby. If you don't have a buzzard, you can use whatever you have in your toolbox.

This is not valid and should be taken down from youtube, this is before patch 1.16.

Here is probably a better one and he just blocked the door where the safe is

if it takes 5 hours & half a garage full of cars don't you think that maybe it's not worth the effort?

bluntly, the mission is glitched/broken - the infinite respawn is the issue. it wasn't always like this i'm p certain. i think it was relatively easy to complete this mission solo until one of the more recent patches.. now it's really not worth the waste of time & ammo.. unless you're in the mood for it..

lol, you are right. When I started it, I didn't think it would take me that long, but you know how it is, you don't want it to beat you so you keep going. Then when you almost there, you say just a little bit more. I did actually give up and did another mission, but was eating at me, so I came back determined to beat it.

Totally not worth it, but was a personal mission that I wanted to beat even with it broken. I would not recommend anyone bother with this unless you looking for some time to kill.

That been said, I moved up half a level with all the kills I got from this. At the end of the day, it's not always about making money/rp and just having fun coming up with a strategy to beat a level.

Yeah absolutely .. was easily doable before if you look at the video's until the latest patch which they made it much harder .. I don't buy the fact, when players say this mission is easy solo, it just isn't unless you have a strategy in place and know where the swarms happen.

If I did it again, i could probably ace it in 30 mins I am thinking now I know exactly what to do or maybe quicker if I use the video tip above ..

Personally every mission should be able to be done solo, there is no reason what R* couldn't make less npc's or make it more aligned with how many players are on the mission and base that on how fast npc's spawn.

Actually its not glitched/broken, R* intended for the mission to have infinite respawns whenever they updated this mission. "Stocks and Scares" is another Merryweather mission that has infinite respawns which I also play solo. I use to think that both missions were glitched until I read this on Wiki

Since patch 1.14, it is impossible to crack the safe in solo where the enemies keep spawning.

  • Due to this, it is the hardest mission to do in solo mode, unless if the player is crack the safe immediately.
  • It is possible to block the two staircases at the front of the shipyard building with vehicles that lead up to the safe, this will then stop the respawning enemies from reaching the player while cracking the safe. At the dock where the boat is situated, there are two Mesa SUV's which the player can use to do so.
  • While it is not impossible to complete on solo, it is definitely a better idea to have a team take this mission on, as support is needed for the player cracking the safe due to the constantly spawning enemies.

Tear gas! I knew there had to be a use for it, I'll give it a go with your method, thanks.

THIS!

I wish I would have thought of that, especially the last time I played arriving last since I somehow spawned halfway across the map in someone else's garage.
