Well apart from the fact that I simply want a second fighter jet, it would be good for hit and runs and isn't designed to hover around and shoot people because that has a disadvantage, of course. Anyone who thinks the point of a VTOL aircraft is to have an easier time engaging ground targets is retarded. If it'll have any "combat" advantages, it'll be in dogfights against Lazers since it would have a better turning arc.

I'd be fine with a heat-seeking rocket being added, as long as it was GUARANTEED to hit and destroy the target. In exchange, make them expensive. I don't care if it costs 50k per rocket. In fact, that would probably be good. It would add SOME form of balance between choosing to grief with a Jet, choosing to use a rocket to shoot down that Jet, or go old-fashioned and try to snipe it if 50k is too rich for you.

Plus I just love Harriers and besides from what I can tell, the Hydra isn't going to be a subsonic attack jet like the AV-8b. However no matter how or where I look at it, I still can't spot cannons on the thing. I'm not really worried about this when it comes to Air-to-Ground assaults. It should still be able to duel fire rockets in quick succession as it did in SA making Air-to-Ground a non-issue. On the flip side I'm curious to see how it handles Air-to-Air without cannon fire. Maybe it will be able to quickly fire duel locked on rockets making a it a bitch to deal with. But you really can't replace a jets cannons with more rockets. We'll just have to wait and see. Maybe it will have cannon, maybe perhaps not explosive but cannons are always better than no cannons. You can't really have a fighter jet without them.

 

By the way for all you people worried about more jets in GTAO. Just buy your own jet when they come out. Nuclear deterrence won the cold war and now you can too! Buy a jet and win the war on griefing today!

just look up all the things vulkan relates to from the forums and you'll find that it is a vehicle with hover mode, cannons, and rockets. there is also no strings relating to a hydra outside of recently added ones, but the vulkan things have been there forever. by this logic i can assume that the hydra wont look like the jet in the first and second trailer, since it has only recently been mentioned in the game's internal hashes and strings

This is the issue with your claim that the jet shown in GTAV trailers 1 & 2 is the Vulkan. The jet that is shown in GTAV trailers 1 & 2 can not be confirmed for having cannons and has no name officially tied to it as of yet. Given how past GTA vehicles like the Hotknife and other cars have been redesign for GTAV I wouldn't dismiss the unnamed aircraft shown in GTAV trailers 1 & 2 just yet.

There is something seriously wrong with anybody who doesn't want to fly a VTOL around a city as detailed as Los Santos. Only in this game do you have the opportunity to fly an F-35B/Harrier crossbreed (totally guessing) around a city that is made out of more than just paper mache (as cities in other jet games are), without the potential consequence of fiery death you would face in real life.

50k to fire a rocket? Are you f*cking nuts? You shouldn't have to pay at all, balancing is tweeking the performance of weaponry, not essentially paying 50k to destroy another jet. Not to mention heat-seeking missiles are never "guaranteed" to hit and destroy their targets, you'll need a correct approach and that's not accounting for any manuevers your target does. I'll also remind you that when people grief, they attack people on the ground and when someone attacks another person on the ground in a Lazer, they use their cannons. No one ever uses missiles to shoot people on the ground unless they're retarded and shooting other planes down can barely be considered griefing as it can only happen once every 2 minutes at most.

It just doesn't make sense to me from anything but a nostalgia stand point. What good would it really do in this game? It'll be chopped liver for anyone with a Lazer, Buzzard, RPG or sniper rifle. Hovering offers no advantage to combat, just makes you a sitting duck. If it were as easy to control as a helicopter, it would be over powered. Even then, you have the buzzard already, so what's the point? I just don't get what real benefit the hydra would have to choose it over a buzzard or a Lazer. Landing on rooftops, maybe? But man, you sure are an easy target when you're hovering.

I'd prefer a rustler or Nevada (or Titan update that let's you carry vehicles in them), but the Hydra would be cool too.

 

I honestly don't think the VTOL hovering is intended for combat. It's vertical *takeoff and landing* not "jet powered hovering executioner." I'm sure many will use it that way, and get plenty of Hydras sent to the scrapyard in the process.

It's main appeal (for me anyway) would be having a Lazer type plane that can be landed/hidden almost anywhere.

How would it be chopped live to a lazer? hovering would mean you could hover in the air and shooting down at people below with the explosive round than switching to flight and shooting down a lazer and just the look of it would look cool and the switch and hovering animation havent seen it since old consoles

Sine it's so much like a heli in performance it would extremely unlikely use explosive rounds.

Personally, no, not really. Perhaps I'm the wrong person to ask, though, since I'm an average, competent pilot at best. I keep meaning to practice more but every time I could fly a plane I end up racing around on motorcycles instead.

 

Honestly I'd rather see a seaplane, maybe the Skimmer, or even that big badass prop plane they had in The Expendables.

 

EDIT: According to Google it's actually classed as a flying boat. Neat!

the evidence is there, if you just look. 1. there were no mentions of a hydra in the game's handling files, only a vulkan, which had vtol-esque handling, suggested by the files. 2. the jet's vertical takeoff features are showcased in the ingame tv ad for the cunning stunt school 3. the vulkan has police chatter audio recorded for it. 4 the vulkan has strings referencing cannons, and rockets. rockets can be seen mounted on the jet in the trailers and in the ingame tv ad, and possibly cannons aswell

NOOOOO , not another unarmed jethow do you know the hydra is unarmed

if rockstar isnt complete phuckkwits, which i doubt sometimes, they will make the hydra have some kind of weapons
