Project CARS (or Community Assisted Racing Simulator) is a motorsport sim game developed by Slightly Mad Studios.
Funding for the game was raised by the community and the developers themselves, without the financial aid of a
traditional publisher. Through the purchase of Tool Packs players could contribute to development in roles including
content creation, QA, and marketing media. Members gain special perks, depending on their purchased tool pack. Members
will receive a share of game sales profits generated within the first 2 years after launch as compensation for their
efforts, to be paid quarterly. The game is set to rival Forza Motorsport 5 and the Gan Trourismo series, with the hardcore
sim features of the likes of iracing and Rfactor. Project CARS focus's solely on the track with purebred race cars.

Keep in mind, not all of these may be available on the console versions, and may not even be in the final product.


The Racing

 

  • Crane picks up car stuck in gravel trap under yellow flag conditions.
  • Customized rolling starts/grid starts.
  • Leaves go up in the air when you drive over them. (Monza for example).
  • Multiple Ghost cars out on track.
  • Ability to accelerate the time of day up to 240x speed, as well as the ability to have the race at any time of day.
  • VR headset compatibility and head tracking.
  • You can damage your headlight(s) to the point where they don't light up, if this happens during the night. You will be driving "blind".
  • There is an Initial helmet tearoff strip animation.
  • Motion captured pit stop animations
  • Fully dynamic weather that can be link to real time weather reports.
  • Adaptive pit strategy.
  • In addition to the racing line, it gets more grip over time in wet conditions it becomes dryer quicker.
  • Overall lighting will darken if a cloud blocks the sun, as it would in real life.



Career

 

  • Free Practice, Qualifying, Warm-up Laps, Safety Car, Rolling/Standing Start is all adjustable in career mode.
  • All events in career mode will be "scalable" in terms of length.
  • Full Indy 500 license, including all cars, drivers, and designs.
  • In the announcement of the 24h of Le Mans license they say that players will be able to race against a full field of 55 opponents (totaling 56 cars including player).
  • Build notes mention something regarding championship points in the career mode.
  • There will be Contact offers in Career (Confirmed).
  • Currently up to 8 tiers of different championships you could do to reach Formula A.
  • Highly adjustable AI characteristics (Overall challenge, aggression, start reaction, intelligence, qualifying ability, race ability, passing, blocking, stamina, risk taking).
  • Historic carrier goals (Defending Champion, Rising Star, Triple Crown).
  • Invitation events & endorsement deals.
  • Manager & engineer inform you of your progress and career opportunities.



Solo Mode

 

  • Playing in Solo Mode wont effect your Career Progress.
  • Track gets "grippier" as rubber is tire laid down over time.
  • You can shorten a 24 hour period in game to 6 minutes (real life).



Season Mode

 

  • Ranges from Minor track days to the 24 hours of LeMans
  • "Your pit engineer will help you deal with the environmental changes as well as when your brakes or tyres are overheating, when youre gaining/losing on an opponent and other race related information (hell be present in every mode)."



Quick Race Weekend​

 

  • Up to 64 cars on track (PC).
  • More than 16 on Consoles.
  • Ability to do a quick 2 lap quick race to practice sessions, qualifying and a 2 race setup.



The Cars​

 

  • Each car will have its own respective features in alliance to real life (i.e. KERS, DRS, Active Aero, etc.)
  • Asymmetrical tuning.
  • Brake Heat.
  • Engine Heat.
  • Oil Temperature.
  • Each car has its own unique set of tires.
  • Driver helmets fit the time period of when the vehicle went into production.
  • Windshield Wiper button.
  • Headlights on/off button.
  • Tire deformation and punctures are included.
  • Up to 70+ setup options.
  • Mechanical failures.



Online

 

  • Free Practice, Qualifying, Warm-up Laps, Safety Car, Rolling/Standing Start is all adjustable when creating an online session.
  • There was a claim by the head of marketing that the online multiplayer count on Consoles was stress tested at 30+, however talks are a aim towards 16-20 players in an online session.
  • Multi-class racing.
  • Join in season lobbies.
  • Virtual social network feed where your fans give comment on you, goes in the career sections.



Misc​

 

  • The basic game difficulty levels are; "ARCADE" - "ACTION" - "REAL" - "SEMI-SIM" - "SIM".
  • Create your own driver to your liking.
  • Ben Collins (AKA Stig) as a pit engineer.
  • Build notes mention something regarding "Motivational Speeches" via Pit2Car Radio (NOT CONFIRMED).
  • Lens Flare is adjustable.
  • Grid Girls!!!, Media Press, Race Engineers, Crowds and Race Marshals are all track side, and are built with great detail.
  • All cars and tracks unlocked from the start of the game.
  • The game makes use of the Xbox One's controller impulse triggers, similar to that of Forza 5.
  • The game makes use of the Playstation DUALSHOCK 4 speaker, where "You'll hear your Pit Engineer talking directly to you through the integrated speaker."



Mention-able Notes:​

 

  • The Safety car won't be available at launch, however will rather come in a week 1 update (NOT CONFIRMED).
  • Indy Cars (DW12) won't be at available at Launch, however will be available in a later update.

It honestly depends, the game is still quite heavily in development, some tracks and cars are optimized and others are not :\

I've been following this game since it was first announced. I actually got to try it at PAX and I have to say it's a little arcadey despite them calling it a "racing simulator."

I mean, I don't mind arcade racing games but this doesn't seem to do anything new than say Gran Turismo or Drive Club or even Forza. It's the same old same old. But to each his own.

Yeah, the build at PAX was 580, from 2 years ago. The settings on it were on the "ARCADE" setting (as there's 6 different settings with assists). Which probably explains why. Im still curious to know why the devs would make a sim but demo it on the arcade setting -_-

It's still widely marketed to the public and available to public via consoles. You could probably be a hardcore RPG gamer and still see stuff about this game unlike something like Asseto Corsa or rFactor. That and it was at PAX. Any other venue that focuses more on simulation games and they probably would have had it on a harder setting.

Yeah, I'm a league racing guy (TORA) and I was planning on getting Forza 5 to for full that, however when It came out I was disappointed under that aspect (its still a great game however). As for PCARS, it has mainly race cars and its multiplayer features fit everything in mind from driver changes to a lightning storm at SPA at night. Which is all a league racing guy could ever ask for. Not to mention, the better PCARS is, the better FM6/GT7 will be. So its a win/win

Actually, believe it or not, both the PS4 and Xbox One look a hell of a lot like the PC version, almost impossible to tell the difference.

Just came across this while browsing. Been looking forward to this for a while now. Just got my racing wheel in the mail today.

Interesting. Having the R32 GT-R is a necessity as all the people who look at the early 1990's as the heyday of Group A racing in the ATCC will bitch and moan and knash their teeth if it's not included.

Car list is primarily focused on on track motorsport, but theres something for everyone :)

Just came across this while browsing. Been looking forward to this for a while now. Just got my racing wheel in the mail today.

If my G27 ever works with my PS4, I'll 100% get the limited edition as I think the Sauber C9 is an absolute legend.

Haven't kept up much with this game but does anyone think it will be better than driveclub?

Havent played driveclub as im not big on arcade style racing games.

 

Project cars is a simulator style like GT & Forza.

 

IMO this will be much better than anything else currently available for consoles, but thats just my opinion.

Lol there we go!!

I just noticed that the trailer music is off of the GTR2 Sountrack, I think the song is "SPA 24 Hours" or something like that. Its fitting considering that PCARS is practically GTR3
