I thought it would be better to create a topic on this to keep it all in here, to avoid any more threads being posted. Posts related to the delay of the new GTAV releases and the PC cancellation should be kept in here. You are free to discuss your and others opinions on the subject, but try to be respectful and keep this on topic.

How likely is a delay, and what speaks for a delay?

 

This is up to interpretion. The reason why these rumours exist in the first place, is that Rockstar hasn't talked about next-gen and PC since their announcement over two months ago. As you might know, there hasn't been a single Rockstar title in the past seven or so years, which had not been delayed. And if they are quiet for a longer period of time, then there is a good chance that something doesn't work out as expected, at least going by their history.

 

This had also been the case with the cover reveal of GTAV, for instance, which was supposed to happen in January 2013. However, they had announced the delay to September 2013 instead, and this after a longer silent period. Going by all that, it is understandable if one is concerned that V won't arrive for the new systems in time.

What speaks against a delay?

 

Take-Two's financial projects of the last few months would be one example and I'll show why.

 

Here are the projections from the financial report they published on May 13:

So, that were their projections about one month before GTAV was announced for PS4, Xbone and the PC. Now, here are their projections from August 5 (two months after announcement):

40% of the revenue is supposed to come from Rockstar. Also notice how they haven't changed their projections at all, despite the fact that 2K's 'Evolve' has been pushed back by four months (from October to February) at the conference? In my view, this is a strong indication that the fall release was and still is on its track.

 

This comment by Rockstar from a recent twitch live event also speaks against a delay:

All in all, there is a lot that speaks for a fall release. Keep in mind that a delay is not impossible, albeit unlikely. I would not get upset just yet, as there is still a good chance that we will be playing V before the end of this year.

 

Lastly, about the rumour that the PC version has been cancelled: I assure that this is not true at all and this isn't even up to debate, in my opinion. Rockstar already announced the game for the PC, and thus making a cancellation extremely unlikely. But you can still have a debate about it in here.

Finally a thread with some thought and facts. I would just like to comment on this part, maybe it's not as likely we get a delay because the game is basically already made and we have evidence that it is being developed for (at least PC) for years. Of course, delays can happen, but this situation is also particularly unlikely. Max Payne 3 for PC for example wasn't actually "delayed", it was simply because of shipping issues, which for me doesn't really count as a delay. I'm really not worried when it comes to a game that is already made and is just being co-developed for a long time. Rockstar have always liked their silences, and a next-gen version of V really doesn't need much publicity, because after all we "got the game" in September 2013.

Even though I love to shout passive-aggressively at people and shove the idea of there not being a delay down their throats, I'll explain why one is impossible with actual rational wording.

 

As you said in the original post, Take-Two's revenue expectations are proof enough. But there's also the fact that people are treating this game like an entirely new Grand Theft Auto. Both in regards to inflated expectations and references to past release date patterns. I really don't think people should be doing this.

 

I've already went on and on about how patterns with Rockstar don't make an inkling of sense, simply because they do everything at a whim. The fact that Take-Two doesn't really control them and lets them do what they want might have something to do with this, but I'm pretty sure that Rockstar NYC is the branch of Rockstar to blame. They act as if they're always coked up in behavior. Constantly unpredictable and changing things at a moment's f*cking notice for no reason at all. Stressing both the developer branches and the publisher themselves (Take-Two).

 

I can almost guarantee that R* NYC's idiotic, bullsh*t behavior patterns (or lack thereof) are the reason for such a huge lack in news.

 

There's one other thing.

 

The PC version has been in development for almost two and a half years now. The PS4 version was right behind it, a month or two after. The Xbox One version started later, but they have had enough time either way. These versions didn't start development in 2013 or 2014. They weren't conceived as a lazy remaster. They were always in the plans.

 

I know this is no surprise, but there are a select few out there who truly choose to believe that this is just a lazy remaster that does nothing to move the series forward. That's fine, I guess. Believe what you like. The game should speak for itself come launch day. I ain't gonna white knight.

A cancellation is VERY unlikely though, considering how much work they've put into the PC version as specified in the build logs. But I'll be patient and wait even if they delayed it. It's better late than nothing, and it's better late but fully baked, rather than quick but half-baked.

They wouldn't even answer the post. That post does serve as confirmation it's still coming this Fall. Generally when there's something to hide they simply ignore tweets and support threads. They haven't been doing so, therefore there probably is no delay, and a cancellation is honestly stupid to think about.
