Not Paying Taxi Fare

First off, this topic is for the 4 people that use the taxi in GTA:O. So I've been using the taxi whenever I'm in an Invite Only to go between my garage in the city and my house in Paleto and browse the forum during the 5-10 minute drive. Cab pulls up, destination set, we drive. This man drives many miles, sometimes having to speed when I ask him to but when we approach our destination I jump out to avoid paying the fare. I only get two stars and I jump out where I can hide quickly. Am I a dick for continually avoiding paying him? No doubt. But I'm a cheap bastard. I save wherever I can.

Anyone else use the taxi where, close to your destination, you also jump out to avoid paying him a few hundred bucks?


Extra Information:
I've got one of the 6-car houses in Paleto.
I've got a 10-car garage near the LS Customs (right side of city), Murrieta Heights.

Cab ride between both costs (without doing the "hurry" option): $335
Cab ride between both costs (with doing the "hurry" option): $487

*of course, prices change as the driver doesn't always use the same routes*

Yeah a dick move. It's GTA. I used a cab once online, in the early days. i thought you could fast travel like in SP. Last time.

Can you call up a taxi during a mission? Id like to experiment with using a NPC getaway driver in an appropriate mission

I've never done that, but I have had him call the cops on me multiple times upon our arrival to my destination because I banked all my cash during the ride.

I'm gonna join a random mission that people keep inviting me to and will call a taxi to test this out. Will edit this post with feedback in 3 minutes.

yep your not the only one joker, only i don't do invites. i like to use them in open lobbies which usually is a death sentence, but if it gets into the triple digits then i bail too.

Not a lot of people use it from the replies so far.

It's a shame as it's a great addition for people who are too lazy or tired to drive around. I wish we could swap the creepy eye-balling driver for Roman's taxi driver who picks up confused tourists at the airport for an easy lay.

I use taxi's when there's a car meet or bike meet to show off my bike or car.

 

I usually get to the meet, jump out before being charged, then call mechanic to get the vehicle so I have a nice clean car or bike at meet .

 

It has gotten me a few "Dude, where's your bike/car?"

People who use the taxi are about as common as the Karin Snipe.

But dodging the fare? Well, that's just too bad, Mr Taxi Man. Some of us are saving for future DLC.

I use cabs to AFK. I end up paying thousands of dollars in fares. Do I give a damn? No, because I'm a rich bastard trying to throw my money out to those who need it. The Taxi drivers gotta keep their family happy somehow.

Why not just set your spawn location to whichever garage you want to go to and find a new session? That's what I do when I can't be bothered with the run out to Paleto.

 

But, being a fan of the old 'drive and dash' myself, here's a pro-tip for you. Call the cab. During the ride, bank all your money. When you get to your destination, you can't pay, he kicks you out and you get two stars, but you're right where you wanted to be.

You can have just $1 in your pocket and you can still hail a cab, when you get to your destination the cab driver will kick you out and you'll get 2 stars, but your money won't be touched
