Doesn't this only work with the Banshee?

no all RWD non-electric cars (not including utility vehicles i believe)

So just hold onto the gas until you get into third gear, let off and then press it again?

So just hold onto the gas until you get into third gear, let off and then press it again?Pretty much. I find it kicks in faster if you tap the handbrake after letting off just before hammering back down. If you do it right, the handbrake won't actually brake the car

Just double checked it, doesn't work for me without the handbrake.

I think OP was referring to just forcefully shifting the gears down by letting on and off.

What you guys are referring to is the "double clutch" trick. The Banshee is just singled out because it has the greatest acceleration. TypicalGamer made a nice video on it:

yes and no. technically the clutch kick trick does force a downshift, so it is inccluded in this discussion. there are other ways to force shifts as well, this is just the most predominant and most efficient way.

most the cars in this game will blow flames on the gearshift without doing any tricks.

tapping the brake is not double clutching.

I really wish this game had a manual transmission for all the reasons stated.
And about the button layout, so far two buttons with functions that I find useless(PS3):

O = Cinematic camera. I really see on point in having this, the alternate focus camera isn't that useful either;
X/R1(that will depend if you use classic controls or standard controls) = Handbrake, I see no point in having this extra button for the handbrake, maybe when you get a phone call, but still is not that much useful.

With these two buttons having no functions, R* could reprogram the controller to make these two buttons assigned to:
O = Bring up phone, awnser phonecall;
X/R1 = Shows up the expanded map, hold for the switch menu.

Then, we could have:
Up(D-pad) = Shift up;
Down(D-pad) = Shift down.

Personally, I like cinematic view. You could easily switch cinematic to be the select/back button and add it to the list of views you toggle through.

Then it would be - First person(hood)

Close distance

Mid distance

Far distance

Cinematic
