Yeah, it's going to be a draw for sure. But still I think England were lucky in this series, in the first test, they won it narrowly, the 2nd the blanked Australia yes, but in the third it was the rain that saved them when Australia were in a good position and in the fourth, if it wasn't for a shock batting collapse from the Aussies, England would have lost. Looking at it this way, the series should be 3-1 now, D4. tounge.gif

Oh undoubtedly England have been poor in all but the first two games, and have been saved by Australia just being a terrible team. Hopefully by the time the next series comes round the rest of our lineup will have played themselves into form because quite frankly we have been pedestrian and dire.

I did not realize that this forum had this thread!!!!

Did anyone watch SA crumble to Pakistan today in the ODI?

Are you guys getting excited for the Ashes down under?

How do you all feel about Faf Du Plessis' ball tampering on the zipper of his trousers?

This thread needs to be far more active!

ashes kicks off again soon... so England retained the ashes for a mere few months before we have to fight for them again... *sigh*

(it isn't about the trophy... it is about beating those damn Aussies)

Don't let it bother you, if England wins down under you will really have some bragging rights!

Way too much fuss being made about his retirement. I mean, sure, he's been the best batsman of the modern era but all this euphoria is still too much.

One could make an argument for Brian Lara but I suppose it is best to say they are both the best! You can tell i'm not an Indian though, because an Indian would never say that!

I wonder what Sachin will do with his time. He is too soft spoken and awkward to do commentary or Bollywood, I think.

In non Sachin related news, this Mohammed Shami guy looks like the real deal and he is only 23. 9 wickets across two innings is ridiculous. I would love to travel to India and go to Eden Gardens or Wankhede sometime. Maybe some day.

Just got back from having a few beers with the boys and watching the opening session, it has to be done. Pitch is looking very flat and Watson and Warner were settling in nicely before Watson flailed at that, his fundamentals are poor.

The problem with Ashes in Australia, as I'm sure the Aussies agree when its over here, is the time difference. If I was to watch the whole day now I'd be up til 7am. First session will have to do most nights I'm afraid.

It goes well for us Americans! Only it is only 2100 right now. Actually preferable time to the UK Ashes when not on a weekend. I am streaming on some crummy webpage and you could actually hear Watson go "OH NO!" before that catch was taken. Hilarious.

Some of the verbals from England have been really good too. I don't think Michael Clarke is going to do much today, Broad always gets him out. But we will see!

I'm surprised Watson wasn't LBW as usual.

Who called it!?!?! Clarke out for 1 to broad! ROFL! Aussie shambles. I wish I was a gambler

Watson seems to have worked on his LBW issue, but in the process has f*cked up his action, particularly for bouncers. He was leaving his edge out there and it was only a matter of time one of those sloppy shots came back to bite him. Broad was on fire, he is loing playing the pantomime villain after the summer series.

Yeah I'm a big fan Ace, never played that much growing up but I love the sport.

England's batting problems are coming out now, they've been glossed over for too long. I read on the BBC today that we've not had a score of over 400 for our last 17 test innings, we're just lucky our attack is so good. This test is over.

I tend to agree that the test is over, more or less. Still plenty of cricket to be played, though. England's inability to deal with pace is definitely worrying for this series. Hopefully they can sort it out fast. Carberry looked good but 40-some runs is still not a fantastic score for an opener.

Joe Root was exposed. I don't know man! It is going to be interesting to see what happens in a few hours. I don't think these problems can be entirely put on the pitch or being down under.

I thought Bell was on fire after the last series, not sure what went on there either.

Thing is, the pitch is apparently a batter's paradise and yet neither team has taken advantage of it (Well, we'll see if Australia just take the piss in this innings) but England just crumbled. No idea what was going on with Bell, when we looked about to collapse in the home series he was the one who dug us out more often than not so what last night was was just a demonstration that we can't keep relying on individual brilliance to save us from our poor form with the bat.

Carberry did look good and I'm happy for him. Cook really needs to step up though, he's a good and sensible captain but his form has been dire recently and he needs to sort it out. We can't have our opener and our Captain misfiring.

Ashes are heating up. Largest England defeat in a long time and the Aussies are mouthing off. David Warner calling Trott pathetic and weak and Michael Clarke telling jimmy to get ready for a broken f*cking arm! I can't wait for the next test. Glad this isn't going to be a total sweep by England and that it is looking very competitive .

Does anyone besides me think that the Indian cricket team is now filled of young players? The very good players such as Virender Sehwag,Gautam Gambhir,Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan should return. I think the best Indian team was the test team of 2010 and 2011. It was just an awesome team.

Wasn't Gambhir dropped a few months ago for being woefully out of form? Still, I heard he hit like a 130 or something recently in the tournament in India. Ranji Trophy I think.

There is nothing wrong with building young players into the team,

You must have heard about that kid who hit an innings of 517 or something in School boy cricket setting a new record? India has talent to come through and maybe it is right that some of the older generation step aside.

I cannot even try to explain how England has gone from so good during the summer to so bad in this series. Total reversal, and last night was an absolute disgrace. How can a string of world class cricketers not even get a single off of Mitchell Johnson? There have been far faster in history. I am a weekend player and i'd wager I could withstand a couple balls from him if I play defensively. It must be the pressure or some mental stress, or some dressing room problem getting to the guys. I've never seen such a shocking collapse at the top level.
