My feeling is Rohit will play his last ODI. People want Virat and Jadeja to go on to WC 2027, but I could see them potentially retiring especially if India win. I don't see Rohit making the 2027 WC so from an Indian fan pov here's to a good finish.

From the NZ side I don't see anyone retiring, maybe Kane at most but don't think so.

Steve Smith though, retired on a high personally

23 wins out of 24 games in the last 3 ICC tournaments for India is all time great stuff. That one loss still rankles but a t20 WC and a Champions trophy is still phenomenal, and good on Rohit for turning up yesterday. Probably his W/L record as captain in ICC tournaments is the best

"If you speak about MI, CSK, KKR - I don't think that's the case [them not getting pitches they ask for]. Any other franchise, I can still understand. Those [three] franchises make sure they get what they want. Their strength has been when they play at home."

This is part of what Pujara said, but it is public knowledge that KKR aren't getting the pitches they want. Both the KKR captains over the years and the Kolkata curator have spoken about being at odds with each other. Pujaras criticism doesnt seem to be factual not only regarding KKR but CSK too. I doubt Chennai wanted a pitch that was so much more favourable for pacers than spinners when they packed their team with three spinners. I side with Flem on this.

A lot of internet hounds too have taken glee in tearing down CSK and their fanbase after one loss, and it feels lame.

I do think CSK don't have a title winning squad this year, but a lot of the hate after yesterday's match is over the top.

From an RCB fan pov, it's good to have two away wins before the Chinnaswamy. Hopefully we start of with a win against GT in our den, and we'll see from there

Pretty interesting read about the IPL's language barriers.

Quote

The first dressing room he joined, Kings XI Punjab, featured a strong Australian contingent, including Brett Lee, Shaun Marsh, and head coach Tom Moody. "English wasn't the problem. The accent was the problem," [Piyush] Chawla says, laughing. He relied on team-mates - like captain Yuvraj Singh - to act as translators: "I used to ask Yuvi all the time: 'What did he just say?'"

:kekw:

Quote

David Warner, Sunrisers' captain, would converse with Mustafizur [Rahman] primarily using body language, and once described pointing to his head at mid-off in an attempt to tell his young fast bowler to use his head. Mustafizur appeared to take it on board, but then ran in and bowled a bouncer: he had interpreted the message to mean he should aim at the batter's head.

:lmaokek:

English as a default needs to be challenged. I notice that a lot of Hindi coverage is more mainstream these days (eg: not completely hidden away), but what I would like to see becoming more common is the price of admission for the big IPL contracts is some form of rudimentary language learning for the region the team is based.

I've lived next to my neighbours for about two years now and can proudly say I know maybe six words in Gujarati so if I can casually do it, a professional being immersed for weeks at a time every year can do so to.

RCB look formidable, but unless they secure a top 2 spot and the cushioning it provides in this tournament, I wont believe that they can win. I've seen this before where they look good but qualify as 3rd or 4th and then lose in the eliminator.

I think they should make it to the playoffs, I'll be very surprised if they don't. Not only are they a strong team but they are performing as a well oiled unit too. I am surprised just how much Krunal Pandya has overperformed with the ball, I think its been a large factor in RCBs success.

Question is, can they make the top 2. Think today's game against Delhi will go a ways in answering that.

I think Gujarat Titans are looking quite good too

The age fudging accusations are only going to intensify now, but either way the youngster absolutely thrashed GT, and he's probably the youngest centurion in the tournament even should you add 2 years to his age lol

More like 5, I don't remember exactly but Pant was 20yo and I think Pandey(?) was 19?

My memory sucks these days but being 14 is such an enormous outlier, and to be the fastest Indian is even more amazing.

I wonder if he'll get a BCCI contract now lol.

I vaguely remember Manish Pandeys century in 2009. 16 years ago, fml I need to get off my ass.

But I digress. Watching Pant struggle this year has been sad. I don't think he will be retained by LSG for next year given how much they spent on him and the meagre returns.
