RAM? GPU?

Okay guys, i have a Core 2 Duo 2.6 GHz Desktop PC with 4 GB RAM & Nvidia Geforce GT 220, Win 7 32 Bit.

Now here's the thing, i had some spare cash and i bought a 1GB RAM, put it in and now

my PC shows 4 GB (3 GB Usable) i checked DxDiag and it says that my total memory for my gpu is 2257 MB!

It should be 1024 MB.

What i want to know is that is the last 1 GB of my ram useless or is it of use?

And why did my total memory change from 1024 to 2257 MB?

Upgrade

Now i do know that my system is in need of an upgrade, and i have been looking into different graphics cards, a few budget suggestions would be nice, plus i will be upgrading to 64 bit once i get a new gpu, so back to what i asked and i quote

You can check the amount of VRAM eg. via GPU-Z. There's no point in using dxdiag for it, as the data it displays might be bogus.

As you wrote, only 3GBs of RAM are in use. That's becaus of the 32bit OS.

As for the GPU - it depends on how much can you spend (and in what country do you live), what's your mobo, what's your PSU, etc.

... what's your mobo, what's your PSU, etc.

I really have no idea what those are? Could you elaborate?

I live in Pakistan, GPU's start from 7000 Rs. (about 70 dollars) and above.

should i get a Nvidia or Radeon? i saw a GTX 650 for about $120. how is that?

and should i wait till i get a new gpu (in about a month) or install a 64 bit OS right now?

Mobo = motherboard, PSU = power supply.

For dual core CPU's I'd suggest looking for a Radeon card, like HD7770/R7-250X. As for the reinstallation - doesn't matter.

Motherboard can be checked via CPU-Z. As for the PSU, you'd have to unscrew the side of the computer case and read the info from the label of the PSU.

CPU-Z helps out wonderfully. Give it a try and post your full list of specs here.

Okay, Sorry for the late reply, couldn't really get online.

Now, i've got a problem and i figured instead of making a new topic i'd post over here.

So, i went ahead with it and installed win 7 64 bit, it's working fine but there's a problem.

I'll go over my specs once again

Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit,
4 GB RAM (3.87 GB Usable),
Core 2 Duo 2.6 GHz,
Nvidia Geforce GT 220

At the moment i have 7 games installed, GTA San Andreas, MTA (it's not really a game but a multiplayer mod for SA),

GTA IV, NfS Hot Pursuit, ArmA III, The Sims 3 & Assassin's Creed IV.

GTA SA/MTA works fine,

Hot Pursuit runs pretty well aswell so does The Sims 3 (which shouldn't really be a problem)

& Arma III while it wouldnt dare run before, now it does with about 20 to 25 fps, sometimes it drops.

But i'm having trouble with AC IV and GTA IV, they are lagging very badly, GTA IV ran perfectly before on med. settings

but now with every thing turned down it is still lagging same goes for AC IV .. any help guys?
