Gingy Eastwood
Sometimes (especially in country music) Artists will cover songs from other Artists. While usually the original is better, in some cases the cover is better. Have you heard of a cover that turned out to be better than the original? I'll start. I recently watched Walk The Line, and listened to Jonathan Rice's reindition of Roy Orbison's (Musical version of Johnny Cash's poem to his wife) "You're My Baby", and I have to say, Rice's version smoked Orbison out of the water. Here, listen to 'em both, give your opinions, and when you think the cover is better.

krashr
black sabbath's "planet caravan", covered by pantera. i enjoy both versions, but prefer the latter.. especially dime's extra guitar licks at the end. it's really nice to chill out to and a great ending to a pretty fast paced album

RoadRunner71
They were really good... it's sad how Nowell ended. Probably one of the best versions and rock songs, it's well known that even Dylan recognized Jimi's was better than his. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6naVGwgHDtQ I prefer U2's Unchained Melody over the original, I find it more powerful and heartbreaking. I can't get it embed for some reason... Edited August 28, 2014 by RoadRunner71 k33g
Zyo
Good call on the Pantera cover of Planet Caravan btw Metallica. Covered lots, some good, some bad. Their cover of "Am I Evil" by Diamondhead is epic. County covers are frequent. J Cash did a great series of em. One of the best is "One" written by U2. I always liked the Machine Head cover of "Message in a Bottle" GTA IV REAL NYC AT GTAFORUMS GTA IV REAL - V8 RUMBLE http://gtaforums.com/topic/782964-reliv-gta-iv-real-v8-rumble/?do=findComment&comment=1067267056 https://www.nationstates.net/region=gta_forums
Zondar
Only posted this in the gtao section a couple of days ago, but hey ho I'm spamming it again. I love this song and this is my favourite version by far. 10 minutes of pure joy! The best known version of this (Diana Ross) is also a cover with Marvin and Tammi Terrell doing the original. It's funny how some of the best disco was made after disco "died"....
Shenmue18
I've always preferred the GNR version over the original. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdwVVI4B3oY This is likely a case where a lot of people didn't even know that this was a cover of a song by "Cross Road Blues" by Robert Johnson. I think most agree that this is a great cover Great rock cover of one of the best pop songs ever.
Zyo
a lot of people didn't even know that this was a cover of a song by "Cross Road Blues" by Robert Johnson. Kudos for mentioning a Robert Johnson cover. There's actually a huge amount of these. So many people covered his work and unfortunately some didn't give him the credit due. Some other good covers of his work are by: Eric Clapton (several) Cream (several) Led Zeppelin John Mayer ZZ Top Howling Wolf Canned Heat The Blues Brothers The Rolling Stones (several) The White Stripes Red Hot Chili Peppers Theres many more, but these are the main ones i know of. Zondar
No way that Van Zandt version of Dead Flowers is better than the Stones. Here's a cover of one of his that I prefer Edit: it says mark Lanegan, but it's Willie Mason that's singing... make total destroy
No way that Van Zandt version of Dead Flowers is better than the Stones. I personally think so. To be honest, it's probably because I heard Van Zandt's cover first, but I still prefer it to the original. (That isn't to say the original is bad though, I enjoy both.) Zondar
^^^^ I'm the other way round, grew up listening to the Stones' version and it's one of my top 3 tracks of theirs. (Although apparently they hate it!!) Just know the Van Zandt version from the Big Lebowski soundtrack.
Guest Billy Russo
I've heard plenty, but I'm sure many would disagree. Basically I've been listening these guys for years ever since they started on YouTube called 'Boyce Avenue'. They do both Original and Cover songs, and I've grew to love their covers more than the Originals, mostly for the authentic sound, and I'm a huge fan of Acoustic Music. I'll post one of my favourite covers by them: I was never a big fan of Creed's version, and when I heard this. I just instantly fell in love with the lyrics, everything. Here's an example of one of their originals if you're interested: Anyone else listen to them?
Hmmm nice bike
I prefer 'Always On My Mind' by the Pet Shop Boys to the . Probably because it brings back good memories, I heard it for the first time in 2009 when I was on a highway in the middle of nowhere on a clear day going past farms and fields, it was serene. It's the first Pet Shop Boys song I ever heard, and I've been a fan ever since!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jj5sbiW0I2I Interesting music video, too. RyanBurnsRed
The cover has breakdowns; the original does not. Therefore the cover is better. Plus ABR ftw. Edited September 1, 2014 by RyanBurnsRed
