Lets Discuss Gun Play in V

Recommended Posts

daliakiller

Pretty much the majority of us here have played or at least watched a Max Payne 3 video. Being a shooter, the gunplay in this game is the best of every game i have ever played. Gun sounds felt awesomely loud, recoil is nothing but perfect and the wounds and consequences of shots.. they are REAL. One good shot to the chest and youre down, leaving only a bullet mark on your shirt or a gore-y wound. Max Payne mastered gunplay in my humble opinion.

Now lets take a look at V.

Satisfying shooting experience, fluid cover system and extremely fast gunplay. Guns feel effective and precise. It features a great gunplay at all... but.. o would really wanted some damage "max payne style". Sometimes a shot straight trough the heart doesnt kill someone. I agree with it if they wear bulletproof vests, but plain t shirts doesnt protect you from a .45 bullet in the chest. Gun recoil is something i really disliked. Making it too precise helped making combat faster and frenetic, but there is no spraying someone like in IV or Max Payne 3. Red Dead Redemption and MP3 with that gore effect on headshots.. this should be featured in V too. A shot in the cheek only makes a small hole. Bullet sounds are horrible in my opinion. The AK 47 should sound menacing like in MP3 or as loud as a winchester in RDR.

Dont get me wrong, i have greatly enjoyed the fast and chaotic gunplay in V, and i am not even saying that a sandbox game should feature the complex gameplay of a shooter. I am just pointing small features i would love to see improved in V's gameplay, especifically in the shooting mechanics. Use this thread to general discussion about gunplay. Have fun.

I also wanted better gun sounds and a soviet ak47, not a norinco. Same with the blood. What bugs me the most is how guns are recoilless, why add a grip if there's no recoil. WTF, rockstar.

the gunplay is mediocre at best. nothing that makes it special from other games. what i hate is the character control. your character can go into "run mode" where they just start running no matter the slightest movement of the joystick.

watch dogs has far better gunplay and character control.

GTA V Is On PC

Totally agree, I personally loved Max Payne 3 and the gameplay that game with it. Gun sounds are very realistic, fluid animation, and precise target impacts. The slow motion feature is incredibly enjoyable, and it helps out in big gunfights too.

Gta 5 disappointed me a little bit when it came to shooting. Like you said, the missing gore effects and poor gun sounds made it less enjoyable, and it felt too much like a call of duty game.

Red Dead Redemption is my favorite for kill effects and physics i really hope they fix this for PC and next gen GTA V physics and kill effects are very disappointing

One thing I like about GTA V's gunplay is being able to move and shoot without having to lock on. Whilst it's better than GTA IV's generally it doesn't give me that brutal/intense feeling in MP3. I wish they carried over the final kill cam too.

I know people will say MP3 is a linear shooter blah, blah, blah, but it still would've been nice in GTA V.

It feels weird having to hold the shoot or aim button. Shouldve been like MP3, press the aim button and your character aims and runs.

Exactly, just have the shooting the same but without the shootdodge.

Another thing that should have been improved is where if you shoot someone in the legs in GTA IV, they limp. In GTA V, it's almost as if they're wearing bulletproof leggings.

In Red Dead a shot in the belly makes the victm to slowly drop their weapons and lay on the floor, then crawl away and die after a few seconds later. In MP3 they die instantly, depending on the weapon you use. I would really like to see that in V, like shooting a pistol in someones belly would make then crawl in pain and die a in a few seconds, and shooting with a rifle kills then instantly, like in MP3.

A mix between Max Payne 3 and Red Dead Redemption would be the best thing to V. Im betting all my chips on next gen and PC for that.

All things considered, my experience of GTA 5 shooting was good, if not vey fun, with a few problems on some particular things, here and there.

But, perhaps this has been implemented for a "GTA" style, not a Max Payne, and that might change if the designer had drawn some things better for NG/PC.

This just makes me so sad. Why did they change it in V?

I hope it will be in the new gen version.

I quite liked the shooting update fromIV,it was a big improvement in V, but aiming can be quite clunky and cumbersome for us free aim users

You should use run and gun. It makes lining up shots fun!

@maxpaynefan: I'm pretty sure that pressing aim makes Max walk in MP3. Isn't it RDR where aim lets you continue to run?

Your right max does walk if there aren't any enemies around. he ran with handguns though.

While I have never played MP3, I love the system in RDR. While that being said, V isn't as perfect, but its not one of those things that bothered me when I switched from RDR to V.

so it didn't feel weird shooting someone in the stomach and watching them get up and run?

The physics are sh*t but the shooting looks great.

If the gun sounds are sampled directly from the actual guns, how can they be made 'better'?

Louder? More bass?

The guns in V feel weak and fake. IV and RDR, MP3 had it right.

I liked the gunplay in V, it's just that the system was broken by being able to hold the whole arsenal of the game at once, and the AK being a disgrace.

I'm gonna at least replace the sounds on PC.

Are you having a f*cking laugh or are you new to games?

No man. What i have meant is that Max Payne 3 made better with gunplay than any game i have ever played. Lots of FPS's and shooters like Battlefield, or shooters like Gears of War didnt manage to bring such a satisfying shooting experience like MP3 does. Sounds are better than any other gun sounds in any game. You can feel how heavy a weapon really is, and actually hear the bullets tearing trough enemies. Read my first post and you'll understand.. damage and wounds are also better than any game. For this reasons, MP3 managed to be the best shooting experience i have played. Better than any shooters, better than any FPSs, better than anything.

Maybe louder. I have once heard an AK being fired in real life, and it sounded real loud and echoed through the hole biulding. Louder than anything. Every bullet fired gave a huge kick in my ears, anf i was about 30 meters from the shooter. The AK in V sounded like a pop cap gun. I think their intentions were good, but the sound just too down. Watch "Heat" during the shootout scene after the heist. If guns sounded a bit more like that, it would be perfect. Edited by daliakiller

I agree as well, but even gears has good shooting, just not as satisfying.

Actually Dalia, the whole ''shoot in the belly and then they drop'' thing already happens in this game to an extent.

I remember trying to shoot the guard who takes Mike as a shield in the face, but whenever I did, there would just be a small hole, even if I shot him in the eye.

RDR also had the feature where you could shoot someone's legs and force them to kneel, then perform an execution.

Max Payne 3 is a fast-paced, run and gun shooter. You're not expected to stick around and watch the enemies curl up or anything. That's why there are no "knee-cap" blowouts like in RDR. Instead, if the enemies are still alive but incapacitated, they'll realistically react to whatever wounds they have.

i really never seen that officer, but i loved the "drag wounded friend" in V. Eye candy. Good to know it exists in V too, i also like how they could bleed to death while downed.

Like maxpaynefan said, Gears of War presents a good shooting play. I love the gore in this game. A good shotgun blast could rip an enemy's arm or legs. Even completely blast them away.

A granade explosion throw an victm far away from the blast, witch is nice.. but i would really like to see some arm or leg separate. I dont usually like gore in games, but a granade explosion seriously f*ck someone. Just like a rifle shot should leave bullet holes like in MP3.

What i would really love to see is some scars or bruises from punches or cuts from bullets that didnt properly hit.

cp1dell

I love that in RDR. Shoot someones legs incapacitate but doesnt kill. Instead of bleeding to death, they shoot while sitting on the floor!

Depends on the weapon, use a cattleman revolver and they shoot and kneel, use a Schofield and they die.

They could have improved the throwing mechanics from IV. I know that it doesnt count as shooting, but it would be extremely good to throw a granade back, for example, or a brick from a bridge to the highway below and watch the driver cause a big accident in panic. Or even use it as weapon. Throwing a rock or grabbing a stick to use as melee weapon, with the same bruises and body reactions said above.. would be nothing but awesome.

Throwing a rock or grabbing a stick to use as melee weapon,

I'm surprised they didn't improve this from GTA IV too (then again a lot of GTA IV's mechanics were royally shafted so maybe not). I know in GTA IV it was sort of limited (It was hilarious throwing burgers and stuff at peds though), but they could've done like you said picking up random things such as rocks and sticks. Or other things like lead pipes, boards etc.
