No DLCs for 12-GB PS3s anymore?

In this day and age, why buy a 12gb console? :rampage:

Because it's cheaper to buy one and install your own hard drive.

This! I mean having the 12GB is outdated anyway for most games. It's just too much data that these games are equipped with to have a small HDD

320GB user here.

What I find weird with the storage is for some reason you can buy a 12GB PS3, yet pay some more and you easily get 500GB. How you don't get the larger capacity model is beyond me, but it's weirder why they still sell at 12GB. I think with the heists, it'll be a large update but combined with the game and previous updates, it also needs space for virtual memory and not just the game itself, so sadly, you won't be able to play GTA Online at 12GB.

Get more drive space or a newer PS3, it's not too expensive and it's worth all the pennies regardless.

this seems to indicate patches will get MUCH bigger, because so far they've been 100/200MB.

No, it's math.

GTA V's install is ~8GB.

~8GB + ~3GB = ~11GB, meaning that there is no more room on the 12GB PS3 HDD to allow users to download anymore updates to the game.

No point in getting a new PS3, even if you have the Fat version (It's just louder).

But yeah, swap out the HDD, that'll fix the issue.

I thought each update was around 100 MB. 3 GB would be if every update had been 200 MB or so, but I guess that makes sense, yeah, I haven't kept track.

Good. I like it when people come straight to the point, than stretching the simple things like a chewing gum.

I thought the obvious point was a new HDD.

A 12GB PS3 is pretty much worthless. I accidentally bought one and you can't even have both GTA V and IV installed on it. I bought it back and got a 500GB which has plenty of space. You can store things on a USB and transfer them between consoles but you can't run it from a USB like you can with the XBox.

You buy cheap, you'll get cheap.

In other words it's better to invest a little more than to pay a lot more in the longer run.

Better choice

The extra £6 to upgrade the speed and cache is worth it, GTAV is one of the games that makes use of this, the jump to 7,200rpm reduces a LOT of pop in on the map and reduces the initial by up to 30 seconds, characters switching is also saved with a 5 to 6 second reduction.

It is a simple fix really. Buy a 500GB hard drive. Mine came with one but I don't know if the PS3 supports larger sizes.

Cheers.

Absolutely no excuse why someone should own a 12GB PS3 today, or hell in the past 5 years anyway. I purchased my 120GB Xbox 360 Elite back in 2007 and even then I felt that 120GB was pretty small. If you had to save up for a PS3 12GB, you should have done the right thing and continued saving up and bought one with a reasonably sized hard drive. It's like the morons who bought a 4GB Xbox 360 and then whine that they can't install games. Idiots.

At least this deprecation of 12GB PS3's means there's some pretty sizable DLC on the horizon. The only problem is WHY they deprecated them: GTAO. This tells me we will not be getting a pure single player DLC, likely ever. Such f*cking bullsh*t GTAO is.

I doubt its because of space that they're doing this.. does anyone know the rpm of a 12gb PS3 HDD? Maybe its not fast enough for what they're trying to achieve?

it has 0rpm as it's not rotating whatsoever

Inactive in GTA/R* title modification indefinitely pursuant to a court order obtained by TTWO. Good job acting against modding!

Hehe, he's right, the 12GB Slot on these PS3's is actually pretty cheap low speed flash memory, which should still out perform most hard drives.

  • 2 weeks later...

I wonder if this is why we are hearing from PS3 users who are having problems after V 1.16....?

I don't think that is right. I own a 12GB PS3 and have 0 problems be it SP or MP. The only problems I have Online is the timeout issues, but I got these since 1.14 or something.

From what I heard in the GTA:O section, the 12GB PS3's doesn't have a hard drive, but something like a flash memory or something. You can simply buy a new HDD and place it in the hard drive area after backing up your game- voila. Now you have more data space.

I'm yet to do this because I can't find a store that sells this kind of stuff.

You must be regretting your choice now, right?

But I can understand your choice if consoles are overpriced in Libya. After all, consoles are over-priced in Brazil and other countries.

Yeah. Its like 600 L.D here. And that's the Super Slim version if that also count.

Not a problem though, all I need is a HDD. I know one store but whenever I go there its always closed. But eh, doesn't matter. Sometime in this month I'm going to Morocco to see the rest of my family there. Surely what I'm looking for will be there. Unlike here.

Maybe it's closed down, in which case, it's no longer a store, but an ex-store. :D

The other stores nearby says that he's still open and sell PS3 stuff. The only problem is that the store owner doesn't have a specific time to open and close. We always come to it but its always closed down.

Where do you get the ~3GB?, The other day i deleted all the updates and they are like 700MB, not even 1GB
