No DLCs for 12-GB PS3s anymore?

There are many german magazines reporting that 12 GB-PS3s will not get any updates anymore because of memory limitations. There you have some links:

http://www.insidegames.ch/gta-5-online-modus-nach-update-1-16-mit-12-gb-ps3-nicht-mehr-spielbar/

http://www.playm.de/2014/08/gta-5-online-ps3-176453/

Is this true?

I'm pretty sure it's the lack of space not the amount of RAM onboard. Each PS3 has the same hardware in it. However, each DLC has been less than 100MB and each update has not exceeded 500MB.

Also, people if you have a 12GB hard-drive, get rid of it and spend a little more on a bigger hard-drive. You won't regret it.

I wonder if this is why we are hearing from PS3 users who are having problems after V 1.16....?

"additional storage to accommodate GTAV Title Updates after 1.16"

Interesting. We'll see what happens but this seems to indicate patches will get MUCH bigger, because so far they've been 100/200MB.

serves them right for buying a 12 GB PS3 in the first place

Dude! Do you how long it took me to save the money for my ps3? Long.

Sometimes it just pays to wait a little longer and buy something practical. We all are aware of how big games are these days, and that 12 GB is nothing, and that waiting a little longer to save up for one with bigger HDD would be better in the long run, as replacing the HDD later on with a bigger one will only cost more.

Cant you use a USB stick with your ps3 for storage like you can with xbox 360, also you may be able to pick up a pre owned hard drive, like a 60GB pretty cheap

Because I've already got a gaming laptop and don't want a tower?

In this day and age, why be a pathetic, smug, elitist PC gamer?

Signatures are dumb anyway.

it's a bit cheaper.

if you buy the 12GB model and your own HD it can still be cheaper than buying the 500GB ps3. at least it was for me. saved about £30. even cheaper if you already have a HDD lying about your house.

but don't know how anyone can use just 12GB to play games. even worse was the 4GB 360...what the f*ck?

Either way, I guess some think game data is saved on the actual disc and not the HDD. Most people look at the hardware in a console or PC and think magic.

I doubt its because of space that they're doing this.. does anyone know the rpm of a 12gb PS3 HDD? Maybe its not fast enough for what they're trying to achieve?

GTA V itself is 8GB with the mandatory part installed. It's safe to assume bigger DLCs are going to come, so 12GB will be exhausted easily.

I bought the 12GB PS3 just for GTAV and RDR and the console was like $150 from what I remember, maybe a bit less...I'm a PC gamer but had to have those two titles. Then went to the PC side of Microcenter and picked up a fast 750gig laptop HDD for $50, installed it within 5-minutes or less and boom...done.

Seemed like the 500GB PS3s were $250-$300, just for the extra storage. Forget that...who's the dummy that paid extra $100-$150 for $30 worth of storage.

Good Day,

Huh, I didn't actually know that the PS3 versions need to be installed from the disc since I got the digital version, sounds reasonable I guess.

No, unlike the XBox360, you cannot use an external USB memory stick with PS3

Atleast the PS3 had 12 GB option. Back in the day so many of my friends caved and bought that cheap 4 GB Xbox 360 which was a total waist if you wanted anything other than game saves on the HDD. I'm not saying 12 GB was a huge upgrade or anything, but 4 GB, for real? I thought it was a slap in the face kind of purchase myself. Even then, 4 GB didn't get you very far. I guess I'm just spoiled now with an X1 with 4 TB and a PS4 with 2 TB of storage.

Just make sure that if you decide to upgrade to a big-boy sized HDD for the PS3, buy an external drive and take the case off it. It will almost certainly be cheaper than the same drive without a shell.

I know, it sounds crazy, but it's generally cheaper to buy an external drive. MADNESS.

When they had the package deal it was actually cheaper to get the 500 than upgrade. I paid $250 for the 500 with GTA V, which was $60 at the time.
