MISSION KREEP

hey folks,

returned from overseas deployment a couple days ago and was happily surprised by a 50% discount on GTA 5 via LIVE. Please forgive me if this topic has been answered, as I am new to the forum and sat down for the first time just an hour ago to dive into the game.

Of course it took forever to digitally download the game, I have seen that addressed in multiple threads. But after trying to jump into play several times and being confronted with the online "user profile" prompt I finally realized that the 4 Download Packs were trying to install.

Is it typical for these Download Packs to take FOREVER to install? I have been sitting here for almost an hour now and am still at around 15% on the very first one.

Thanks -

EDIT: Mod Please Lock Thread. Thanks -

yeah that was the first thing i suspected but my signal is excellent and i have the best internet available. and i also downloaded three other games this morning (Dishonored, Bioshock Infinite, Metro LL) and all dlc packs for those games.

it took less than an hour to download each of those games and less than five minutes for each dlc, so was just curious as to why it's taking FOREVER for these, and if anyone else is/has experienced this. thanks though -

I can imagine this must be very frustrating.

Did you install disk one to your console hard drive or do you have an external memory drive (USB Memory Stick) ?

frustrating indeed. if download continues at this rate it will take another 14 hours to complete...

and neither. it is a digital download via the marketplace on 360.

Of course it is! So sorry, I saw that you had posted in a similar issue and mixed up the details!

Same question though, are you installing to console hard drive or USB external drive?

i'm installing directly to the hard drive. so bizarre, the entire game took less than 1.5 hours to download. my eyes are glued to the progress bar, and ffs it's like watching a redwood grow... :facedesk:

oh, thanks for being so responsive.

That might be your problem. Most sources agree that an external memory storage speeds up installation and also prevents subsequent freezing and texture issues.

If the install fails or takes forever, or if you have any performance issues, your best solution is to treat yourself to a USB drive and reinstall (and uninstall from your console memory)

cool. i'm stuck on pedestrian status until i get my truck out of storage tommorrow, so i'm just gonna have to suffer the delay, go throw some red paint on the city, and hope it's done when i return in a few hours, altered state. i will grab a new USB tommorrow to back it up in case i ever run into future issues. thanks again -
