Yeah, I tried doing it myself and got so far and was quite proud but then I tried following some YouTuber's guides at making cities especially just starting out. It's a lot of fun and you can learn a lot. 

 

A good channel on YouTube is this guy where people send in their cities with traffic issues and he fixes them.

This game is really fun. I wish I was better at slowing down and planning things out better in the early game though because I have a habit of rushing the early part then having to deal with the financial consequences. Once I get it all set up and running though,mabsolutely brilliant and addicting.

He was the reason I purchased the game in the first place, and kept going with it instead of dropping it for something else. A fantastic Youtuber. If it wasn't for his videos, I would have stopped playing the game altogether because I was making loads of rookie mistakes just trying to get the village up and running and was suffering big time financially because of it.

 

My biggest gripe with the game though is you have the absolute barebones when starting out (no DLC or mods) and the maps are bland imo.
