tokyocean
Well, there's still tons of racism today. The only form of racism that's acknowledged in the mainstream, though, is racism against black people. There are tons of instances in which black people are racist against white people, Asian people, and Hispanic people, yet no one bothers to take a stand against it. It has gotten to the point where people will instantly accuse you of racism just for defending yourself against a black person if you're not black. Anyway, I respect and appreciate the vibes of those days. Truly iconic. The music is uplifting and positive. No glorification of negative crap. Melech
"I'm going to go ahead and make the biggest sweeping generalization about an entire era of music and dismiss countless hours of work on the part of content creators simply because I dislike a single pop song that was more of an Internet meme and has all but faded away in the proceeding months after its release-- in fact the only reminder of its existence right now in my mind is the constant pain I feel, the guilt for my entire generation and all its contained musicians for the simple fact that it wasn't nearly as good as the most iconic songs of the last fifty years [an arbitrary period of culture I choose to identify with over my own for almost no other reason than slight quirks and different techniques and experimentation in musical style or innovation]." ye good job there with that. Gangnam Sh*tstyle was just an example. Today's music makes me feel nothing but sick, as its tune and lyrics suck big. Talent is gone. Just take a look at Eurovision or mainstream Western music. I don't care if authors have spent hours making their "music". That doesn't mean the music will be good or even worthy. Of course there are exceptions, such as some Israeli singers like Idan Raichel, Eyal Golan, Sarit Hadad and other singers around the world. But most of today's music just sucks a lot. This is my opinion. PS: I agree with all you've said about Gangnam Sh*tstyle. universetwisters

Eurovision's alright, but only for when I try to find pop music from other countries. Most Eurovision songs are sung in English, so you can't know which country does the song belong to. Danz.
Do you know what is "funny"? People used to be much more sincere back in the day. Racism, xenophobia, homophobia and other kinds of prejudices were much more in your face and people really used to express what they were thinking. It all felt more natural, rather than forcing different people to get along. For example, it was common up to a few decades ago to call people with Down Syndrom retards. If you do such thing nowadays you might get a process or two or, even, you might end up in the prison. That's something that the current society masks. We all know that everybody wants the ones who aren't similar to them to get completely f*cked in order to benefit you. Your own belly button is the only thing that really matters for you, right? However, it feels necessary to be dissimulate with your behavior and pretend that you don't care about the differences, while, deep inside(or not so deep), you actually do. Well, if you like traditional music I sincerely recommend you to try to listen to some Cape Verde traditional music: morna, coladeira and funaná. Maybe start with a legend: Cesaria Evora. It is traditional music but it is contemporary too. If you like it then let me know and I'll give you more tips.

Special Members
It's hard to describe but I'm really not a fan of modern society. I've always wished I was born in the 40s so I could live my teenage years in the 50s. I am not a fan, either. Today's society sucks big. I could point out every thing that sucks in today's society, but then I would never finish. I love music from back then (Elvis, Chuck Berry, Dion, doo-wop etc), it had some features in it that are just uplifting and just always relatable and fun. Modern music is just computers and sluts screaming or lipsyncing. Exactly! Today's music sucks. I can't understand how can people like it. I mean, they like a song just because it's fashionable, not because it's catchy or the lyrics are beautiful. Just take a look at Gangnam Style. Sh*ttiest music ever.I only like classical music and old Israeli songs by Yehoram Gaon, Arik Einstein (Z"L), Gevatron, Naomi Shemer (Z"L), Ilan veIlanit, etc. The outfits were so nice too! A reason why I'm weird is because I dress for school like a girl would in the 50s; long skirt and a closed, nicely buttoned top. I also wear my hair in those cute 50s styles. Speaking of hair, why don't guys slick their hair anymore like the Greasers? Not sure if you guys have seen "The Outsiders" but that movie is filled with that stuff I agree that modern dress is not so nice in many ways. But formal dress is very nice. But if you dress formal with people call yourposh or preppy. Many people call me so. Kids had manners and still went outside. Exactly! Today's young people are very uneducated. Formerly people had more education and respected other people more. I mean, today to be a chav and/or an uneducated asshole is considered normal or even fashionable! Formerly those people where considered scum and marginalized. Today's youth do nothing but drinking till they drop, they have no worries, such as studying to be someone in a nearby future. Today's ignorants are proud to be ignorant fools, decades ago they felt shame and tried to hide their ignorance. Education and intelligence are not valued today as they were before. Today's kids just stay at home playing Call of Duty, telling you they are going to f*ck your mom. Also, kids don't play outside due to a rise of crime and insecurity.Glad to know I am not alone, but you're a little bit hardcode, aren't you? I deeply miss the 90s and I wish I lived in the late 80s. I'd pay ANYTHING to travel to the 80s and 90s. Not that I expected anything logical from you, but your generalizations and backwards right-wing "The past was always better" ideology is physically hurting me. You're 20 years old, but I would expect something like this from an old, bitter man. And the reason you love the 90s so much is because of sugar-coated nostalgia. ddyoung
Honestly, I would have loved to have been an adult during the 40s. Call me crazy, but I've always wanted to go back in time and be a soldier during WWII in Europe. It has just always fascinated me, how ordinary people did such extraordinary things. lil weasel
It was easier to live back then because the individual didn't have to think. Society and Government made your decisions. You followed the lead or you were put in an institution of some kind, or driven out of town by pressure. Have you forgotten blatant bias? Jews, Negroes, Non-Christian Religion? Same sex dating, forget about marriage. Anti-Abortion was the law, you could not even buy condoms legally. Porn was what we see now as in garment catalogs and on TV. Language, taboo words were also unlawful (Mort Saul as an extreme). Inter Racial or Religious dating? Forget it. No such thing as mixed socials among decent church going people. Divorce was rarely heard of. Today's Head lines were not even on the back pages then. Cop kills unarmed <?>". Subscribe to or join (or know someone in) the *wrong* organization and be investigated. GunWrath
No need to explain yourself, ddyoung, I'd fight alongside with ya. I had two relatives that fought in WWII and since I was a kid I always wished of going back in time to fight alongside them or in the war in general. Though I think I'd skip past the beach invasions.. yeah, no thanks. I'd probably be the first one to die, drowned by my own gear. On a serious note, I'm more a fan of old advertising, posters, signs, things of that nature. To this day, I think they stand out better than most signs and advertising we have now. I also love 50's style deco.. like in soda bars and food joints. Especially considering in those days, people actually believed what advertising had to say, some still believe it today. Doc Rikowski
I've also been quite fascinated by WWII and to a certain degree I still am. Love movies about WWII and as ddyoung said I'm very much interested in the thought of how I would have coped with the whole thing being just a regular guy. At the same time I usually wonder if I wouldn't be the guy that gets a bullet in the head in the very first day on the front. The randomness of death during the war is what would make me think twice before doing such step back in the past. Cause making it through was really just a matter of luck, fate or accident and that's not a very amusing idea. Gun, old design and advertising stands out cause back then you needed to be very skilful and talented to be in the business. There were no computers which meant that only selected artists could aspire to the job. Today you still need to be skilful and talented to work at the top level but computers allowed a lot of untalented people to produce design and advertising that are out there polluting cities.
