VCS sh*ts on every gta ever made, it's just perfect.

You should start with that masterpiece.

Oh and the hardest to complete without cheats I'd say is GTA 3

Drunken Cowboy

The problem is most of the hard GTA missions are ones where cheats can't negate the difficulty: perfecting stunts, timed delivery, "meter" levels (like that one in VCS where you had to pick up Umberto's dad without his heart acting up), FOLLOWING THE DAMN TRAIN, etc.

The 3D era was loaded with those annoying types of missions. In GTA IV and V, most of the harder missions just involve not getting shot to pieces, which is where health cheats come in.

Should have known there would be a bunch of "durr-hurr this games so easy i kud play wit mi I's closed" in here.

When I was 10 years old and playing GTA VC it was pretty difficult. Way back then GTA VC, SA & [iII Came later] were the hardest probably due to my age.

But, I think the 3D era surpasses the HD era and difficulty. The lack of cover system, clunky mechanics, lack of checkpoints and AI set the 3D era apart from the HD era. GTA easier to me now but i can't just blow right past the whole thing

In contrast to my opening statement; i once knew a guy who played thru the whole story on a Call of Duty: MW on Veteran and didnt die but like, once, the whole f*cking story. I guess some people are born better gamers/or have way more practice.

I've only played GTA 4(and DLC) and 5. They were easy without cheats.

III, VC and SA are all hard in some ways.

That's the reason few people can't play certain missions, as they simply call these as annoying to complete, on each try.

But, for the most part, that's the most exciting aspect of these missions and 3D games, in general. There are good enough alternatives to approach them with the general knowledge about how GTA freely allows the players to experiment.

So, to me, they are challenging rather calling them hardest.

It's important to NOT keep the things not so easy that it becomes boring to replay since the multiple approaches also cover the solutions, if in case, some people suck in facing simple challenges :p

Also, someone who knows about IV and V improvements, and later faces some missions they might appear difficult, mainly due to the outdated mechanics.

Still, rather using cheats, I'd suggest to adapt, whatever way the old games are and try to overcome these difficulties.

That's what I do. And, several other players did, just check the "VC, III and SA records book" ... they managed to prove many wrong, when people shout a lot about the key features missing, physics, driving, blah blah blah...limitations of the 3D games.

You won't find such records of dedicated fans when it comes to IV or V, because there aren't enough good things that seem challenging at all.

That's why, VC, SA, and III still holds up today.

All the pre-IV GTAs didn't have Mission Replays, taxi rides, etc.

If you had to drive to the other corner of the map, you had to drive to the other corner of the map.

Well, there was taxi that would take you to the start of the mission if you die or are arrested while on the mission. Not sure if it was in III, but I know for sure it was in VC and SA.

On topic: I'd sad every GTA is pretty easy with a few hard missions here and there. Overall.. I'd say maybe 3, more due to it's mechanics that make some missions a bit harder than anything else. VC is a piece of cake, and so is SA for most of the game. With HD era it's enough to use covers and you won't die in any mission.

Yes, it was Vice City that first introduced. I don't think GTA SA features the same.

In VC, you can replay the failed missions by riding a taxi to the mission marker ONLY if Tommy dies or gets areasted.

The taxi is available outside the hospital or police station, depending on where Tommy spawns.

The Caped Crusader

There was a Fast Track system in the games after SA,if you fail a mission and get in the same car in your next try there would be a icon appearing and you would skip to that location.

Top-down view GTAs are generally the hardest for most people (including me). I don't know whether it's the top-down view what makes it hard, but the missions seem to be a lot harder than in previous GTAs. I recently had a chance to play London dlcs and I got stuck in the very early missions.. Aside from this, people can find GTA III hard too, especially after playing the latter games before. Not being able to bail out of the car anytime you want, no crouching requires you to do different strategies in missions than in newer GTA games. Not to mention flying, which was pain in the ass in III. I still remember how I couldn't take off with the Dodo, so I decided to just drive to Portland Import/Export garage..

HOW'S ANNIE?

To be honest I've never played through a whole game using cheats before so I wouldn't know. I've only ever used cheats as a mess-around type of thing as opposed to something to get me from A to B.

None of them are hard.. but if we were to list which one is the most challenging in the series I'd probably go with GTA III

Lethal Vaccine

I'd say GTA III is the hardest to get to 100%. I've never used cheats when going for 100%, but I can tell you GTA III is ultra hard with some aspects of the game compared to any other GTA Game.

Not only do I go for 100% without cheats, but I also have 0 Deaths, 0 Busted, and 0 Missions Failed. I am a proof vehicle collector, though, so when I need to obtain a vehicle I want and the requirements to obtain it are to fail a mission or die, this is the only time I comply with those rules of having a death or a mission failure, but other than that, I stick to 0 and try to have the cleanest stats possibly.

I've finished GTA III, VC, SA, LCS, VCS (All with PS2 Discs on my PS3), and I also finished IV, TLaD, and TBoGT (All with PS3 Discs on my PS3). The only one I gotta do a legit 100% playthrough is GTA V.

Detective Phelps

I'd say GTA III. GTA LCS also has its fair share of difficult missions, but once the third island is unlocked, the missions are less challenging.

"Death Row" was a probably the most difficult mission in VC for me. Infact, when I arrived at the hospital with Vance, the car was on fire! After that, the missions became relatively easy.

As for GTA III, the cars blow up easily, as someone else has mentioned. This makes some of the missions difficult (the missions where you have to stay in the same vehicle).

That's just your opinion. It isn't the best Gta ever. Not by a long shot.

III is IMO the hardest one. I can't even get past the third mission in that game.

Most III era games are hard to complete without cheats. San Andreas will be the hardest, followed by GTA III.

San Andreas sold way more copies. Cj has more fans than Vic. You are the f*cking minority here. Everyone knows SA>VCS.

Give it a rest sheesh. We have enough threads for the ego stroking.

OT: GTA III was the hardest for me to finish. I remember I pretty much had the health/armour and weapons cheats down pat by the end considering how often I used them.
