- "realism" in all the wrong places ( Death by jumping in the water)

It sounds like you've got GTA IV and GTA V mixed up with GTA III, VC and LCS.
How cute! I didn't know you could jump from a height into the water and survive in GTA V?He didn't say anything about jumping from a height.

Besides it's possible to jump from heights into water in GTA V without dying and in GTA IV you can pretty much jump from a helicopter at its highest into water and survive.

So I'm not sure what he's trying to get at really.

I think instead of worrying that the series is gonna go downhill, you should be happy that instead of creating a copy and paste game, R* made something entirely new, and completely different to IV without getting rid of the GTA feel. It's better than what most companys do these days, in a sense that when I buy a new GTA I expect something completely different, and I expect VI will be the same way.

He's talking about GTA V regarding this particular point. In V, one may die by jumping into the water from a great height. Not a problem in IV.

I feel like it's too early to decide if Rockstar are going in a new direction. From what I read on the forum, the usual opinion is that GTA V is disliked, while GTA IV is respected. It's only one game really, GTA VI could come out and blow our minds, being the greatest GTA title yet - we don't know that just yet. Sure, GTA V wasn't to our expectations and was definitely over-hyped, however in my opinion, Rockstar aren't necessarily on a bad streak of games. Each GTA game is different, therefore VI could be completely different from both IV and V.

You can't survive jumping from a great height into water on III, VC, and LCS either. Only SA, VCS, and IV had that ability.

I wouldn't know for sure, but I'd be surprised if you didn't survive after jumping into water from such a height. I mean hell, Trevor could do it.

That's just one way to look at that, which would also furthermore, raise certain elements that belongs to only 3D titles, and terribly handled in IV and V ONLY!..due to? .. due to certain "realism" introduced in it, and that's what I'm highlighting, not necessarily -what games do/don't.

It's not that IV and V are on the same page with 3D titles, when we see different changes across the board, since the inception of HD games.

Wait, jumping from a great height doesn't even hurt you a bit in IV. Heck, in V you need to get absolutely high if you want to die landing to water, with full health.

Do you understand "Not a problem in IV" which I previously wrote in simple english already?

Heck, in V you need to get absolutely high if you want to die landing to water, with full health.

I don't have any problems. I was only correcting SOL regarding his comparison of the same with III, VC, and LCS, which isn't the case exactly, until you arrived stretching the matter too far.

You do die in V jumping from a great height.

Anyone got problems? Then, take it straight to the person who thinks it's a problematic feature, which is clearly not me.

If they keep the focus on "Online" then no, I've been waiting for my damn SP DLC but are we getting any trailers or hints? No, we're getting new verified "jobs" and only patches/fixes for Online.

In addition to the online focus and stripped gameplay features that existed in previous games, the delay between games is something that is bothering me. I know it takes a long time to make games like GTA, but there was only like 1 year between GTA 3 and Vice City, and 2 between Vice City and San Andreas. For the HD era, it was 4 years between San Andreas and GTA IV, and 5 years between GTA IV and GTA V. I still think Vice City and San Andreas are the best two games in the series, so its not like they were spending that time making the pinnacle of the series. Many of the missions and storylines in V seem half-assed, while most of the San Andreas and Vice City ones had some soul to them. Red Dead would explain the slowdown between IV and V...had it been made by the same studio. I'm not counting "Stories" or DLC games as "major" installments, because they are just recycling the same game world and engine and adding some new main characters. Modders do this all the time, and don't take that long to do so.

GTA:SA fans about GTA 5: "woohoo! It's awesome!"

GTA 4 fans about GTA 5: "f*ck*ng unrealistic shi*t driving psychic sucks"

Beacuse of GTA 4 now there are two sides in GTA community.

Sorry GTA 4 fans but your favourite game is the worst game in GTA series. And not only GTA 5 was crazy. From GTA 1 to GTA:SA every GTA were crazy and unrealistic.

To say that IV is the worst in the series is mind boggling. Do I like it more than V? No, but it's still a fantastic game with a great story and set the bar for GTA's (and many other games) to follow.

Dude I lost over half my health jumping of the santa monica pier in one of the early missions where you have a bike race with jimmy and then you jump off the pier and swim out to the boat to get tracey.

I miss-times my jump off the pier (which is like what 20 foot high above the water ?? and landed badly and it took half my health.

I also remember when I was flying about I jumped out and opened the parachute then I say the lake below and decided to drop only to be killed on impact. Not fun.

I just cant figure out R* - it seemed like they were trying to make GTA5 less realistic compared to GTA4 yey they just seem to make really dumb decisions just to troll people - and there are loads of them, its just so annoying.

The R* team just isnt as good anymore.

I voted no.

I dislike how games in the GTA franchise are progressively turning into Sims games. They are now designed so that all activities outside of missions revolve around being a virtual tourist in R*'s beautifully created world - viewing the scenery and partaking in tourist activities - or hanging around with virtual friends. The only real crimes happen in missions - and even those are becoming more about sorting out family trouble - i.e. Michael in GTA V.

I also dislike the direction of the missions themselves - they now offer far less freedom to the player in terms of execution. Lester giving you the choice of going in "smart", or "loud and dumb" hardly makes up for the fact that the missions are highly scripted set-peices with no real freedom, like that given in the 3D era.

What attracted me to the franchise in the first place was the unrivalled level of interaction and ability to commit crimes in free-roam. Almost two console generations after GTA 3, a free-roam system which offers a less detailed wanted level system (with virtually unimproved AI), less gang interactions (with you and other gangs), and less varied crimes can only be described as highly disappointing IMO.

I also completely agree with SonOfLiberty on the increased focus on multiplayer:

I'd argue the new "direction" has more to do wIth GTAO than any specific theme employed with GTA V. I'm worried GTAO will engulf even more of GTA VI than GTA V. I can see single player serving to GTA sadly what single player does to COD.

If that's the direction we interpret than I don't like it.

BTW I've changed the poll question to a simple "yes" and "no" since the other one was kind of silly.

IMO recently many games are focussing far more on multiplayer as it is, quite smply, a cheap and easy way to increase the hours of gameplay - players simply make their own fun without the developers having to spend as much time and money programming in new features.

That's why GTA V can have an enemy AI that would have been criticised in the PS2 generation and get away with it - "if you want better AI, play online against human opponents."

Just thought I'd share the reasons why I'm definately not planning on buying the next GTA game on release date. I'll only be buying it if reviews by people here (I don't trust hype-spreading reviews by magazines in cahoots with game developers) show these issues have been resolved.

Keep your head out of your own ass. IV is not the worst considering how plenty the fans are, and the game never felt old.

SA managed to split GTA community, the dark/gritty one (III, IV), and delightful/crazy (V).

You call falling off a bike unrealistic? LOL.

I'm very much liking the new direction. For me, it seems to rely less on really played out tropes and rehashed ideas on other games, and is trying to push the genre forward with new angles.

It feels to me like GTA is growing up, and I can only see that as a good thing. As much as I love the III era games, looking back, they definitely feel like they're aimed more at kids than the actual target market. People say V dumbed down GTA, but I think of it as pulling GTA out of dumb.

Don't bother arguing with me, I know this is an unpopular belief and I honestly don't care if you disagree.

Signatures are dumb anyway.

It seems pretty certain that Online will lead the direction for the series from here on out, including the SP mode. The more I play it, it gets more obvious how the gunplay, the driving, the side activities, the map layout were all designed to create a level playing field between other players and fit more within an online sanctuary.

The only part exclusive to SP anymore is the story. And that's only been a major part of GTA since IV.

So no, though it will be interesting to see how Online expands map wise. But I don't think I'll be playing.

Online makes money. Rockstar will go where the money is. And that makes me worried. Really, really worried.

I believe R* are certainly capable of telling amazing stories. V's story, despite all its shortcomings, felt inventive and unconventional for the franchise, which gives me hope. But the real question is how much of a "game" will be there once the story is finished? If SP takes even more of a backseat to Online, it would be devastating.

I don't view gaming as, whether it is aimed primarily at kids, or even just mature/grown up players, but, rather for those who love having great fun -i.e. for gamers!

3D titles are not only an example, but a perfect time, when it was all about being totally fun, and built primarily for the same, irrespective of whether you call such a thing as being "targeted" to one particular type of player or else.

To me, that sort of thinking feels more appropriate now -when more, and more gamers, become easily disconnected with certain feature/activity whose requirement(s) involve a learning curve attached to it, thus to balance it out, it's often more scripted, and quite easy ( with few exceptions ), casual form of entertainment to having fun, even when the rest of the game is still weak, to the point, when you no longer are making enough decisions to dictate the game world, rather the game dictates over you, and not neccessarily what the game should have been to enjoy playing.

It's now becoming a lot more realistic, taking away the difficulty, and players' accessibility from the game, which is designed to cater the casual players, with not much of an expectation, other than stunning looks, simplified mechanics, easy learning curves, flash over substance, and linear paced, heavily story focused gameplay, which almost any major game developer can seem to easily blow an entire budget over making one, that requires nothing much to gamble on their part, which would be totally opposite and risky to what the "target market" enjoys.

I can easily point out what it's like playing "Grand Theft Auto" during the time, that made playing the game so much fun, and awesome when it comes to top-down and 3D Era, while it's almost impossible to easily overlook -what really sucks so bad, that it outweighs the good about the modern direction, when it comes to HD Era

Lethal Vaccine

YOU CAN SURVIVE from jumping high up in V and landing in water.

- @ 1:32 you'll see "Nightmare" fly down from a helicopter into a tiny pool. "Hazardous" says he didn't know if he died or not, but he didn't. Nightmare has his own channel for stunting and I seen this loads of times, including him landing in other bodies of water and surviving 100% of the time...

These things were back in January/February, though...Not sure if it's patched or not, but surely jumping into water from a massive height didn't do any damage on your character...
