3. 5. Two at 7? 9. Three at 12, well sure, there's two at 7. Two at 19. 21 Three at 24.

15? 17? Don't need them.

I know it was a "project" with he and his father, but you'd think they'd look at least at one guitar before just slapping markers on willy-nilly.

I've often contemplated buying a replica, but since I haven't the inspiration to become a guitar God, it'd probably just be a waste of money. That said, I heard a story about some musician (well known guy, but his name escapes me), who was lucky enough to play Brian's original guitar. He was so pumped and excited that he'd finally be able to sound like Brian May. But he was soon disappointed to find that he sounded no different. It was only then that he realized the sound came from Brian, not the guitar. The sound Brian produces is entirely his own.

His composition Good Company is an often overlooked masterpiece. In the song, Brian attempts to emulate the sound of a full jazz ensemble (trumpet, trombone, clarinet, etc.) with his guitar. He explains his creation in this video. It's pretty f*cking awesome.

Might be that he decided to have more/those particular markers to help with visualization. Different people, different strokes I guess. Pat Martino always opted for no markers on his guitars.

The general maxim is "tone is in your fingers." You can't pick up Don Drummond's trombone and suddenly start churning out rocksteady hits, now can you?

I once attempted to play a fretless with no lines. It wasn't pretty.

My all time favorite Queen song. I love them all but this one idk how to explain it - it's so freaking awesome in every level. I've been a fan all my life, since the very first time I seen Flash Gordon (motion picture) on cable TV. The soundtrack was so fascinating throughout the movie that it made me want to discover this band more in depth - which I'm proud and glad I did because I've been listening to their amazing music ever since . :)

I saw this video last week and got emotional. The same way I get every time I see this, Freddie as a maestro of 250k voices at Rock in Rio 1985

Nice! I've lost count of how many times I've seen that concert. Lately, I've been listening to their newest live album release, A Night at the Odeon. If you haven't watched it yet, you must. It captures Queen while Bo Rhap was #1 in the charts.

Wembley is f*cking amazing, I love their performance. I haven't had a listen to the "A Night At The Odeon" yet, but I will in due time

Honda has a new commercial that will debut on Superbowl Sunday, I believe, and it features "Somebody to Love" by Queen, of course. It's pretty cool!

This one has "Another One Bites The Dust" mixed into it as well

So are any of you familiar with Roger Taylor's solo work? His work is very eclectic. I feel the sudden urge to share with you this song from his Happiness album.

Please indulge me...

I've included a Queen Song of the Week on my profile page. So I figured I'd might as well post my selections here once in a while...otherwise I just end up deleting the things I write and everything gets lost in oblivion. I realize most people won't read what I write...which is ok because I guess I do it for myself more than anything else. It's kind of therapeutic, I suppose.

Queen Song of the Week:

Ensueño

In 1987, Freddie Mercury went to an opera house to see Luciano Pavarotti in Verdi's 'Un ballo in maschera'. However, as incredible as Pavarotti was, it was the mezzo soprano, Montserrat Caballé, who blew Freddie away. Soon after the performance he played his manager Jim Beach a record of Montserrat Caballé. “I wish to record with her," Freddie told a surprised Jim. “Please arrange it.”
Then on one momentous evening, both artists finally met at the Ritz hotel in Barcelona, Spain. Freddie took with him a demo recording he had prepared for Montserrat entitled “Exercises in Free Love," which Freddie had sung in falsetto to imitate her voice.
“Could I sing it next Sunday at my recital at Covent Garden?” Montserrat asked on hearing it. They rehearsed it then and there and one of the greatest and most celebrated musical collaborations was born. Together both musicians would record Barcelona, a collection of unique songs that fused such styles as gospel, rock, and yes, predominantly opera. For the purposes of this album, Exercises in Free Love was transformed into the gorgeous Ensueño, which means dream or fantasy. It's a brilliant duet that brings together two very different worlds in beautiful harmony. Indeed, this was one of Freddie Mercury's proudest accomplishments.

Queen Song of the Week

It's a Beautiful Day

After Freddie Mercury's tragic death in 1991 the band began working on what would later become the final Queen album. Unfortunately, Freddie wasn't able to write and record much in the final months of his life. So the band dug deep into the Queen archives and discovered many unfinished gems, including an improvisation recorded by Freddie in April 1980 entitled 'Beautiful Day'. John Deacon fleshed it out into a full song by arranging a beautiful keyboard segment, and finally Brian May added some exceptional guitar work.

Here is the original recording from April 1980. Notice that Freddie screws up the first arpeggio. Even the best aren't perfect. ;)

Queen are very special band to me. They were the first band I've heard, my parents were and are huge Queen fans so I had a bunch of cassette tapes and vinyls lying around. Innuendo was my first album of theirs, and I know some "music critics" don't consider it to be that great but whatever. Thanks to them I have a very distinctive taste for music. Freddie's voice is one of a kind and seeing Kanye trying to sing the Bohemian Rhapsody makes me facepalm every time.

My favourite Queen song of all time

That guitar...

Just like you, I can thank Queen for giving me a distinctive taste in music. It's amazing how on just one album Queen could do hard rock, gospel, vaudeville, and even a freaking waltz. I just love how diverse they were...never knowing any boundaries even if it meant disappointing their fans. I've got so much respect for that.

By the way, Bijou is an excellent choice. Brian May performed it live a number of years ago in the Ukraine. Absolutely brilliant.

I'm not sure about anyone else in this topic, but I feel that John Deacon is the unsung hero of the band. Yes. I am aware that Roger, Brian and Freddie (ofc) have massive talent, but John has talent in a unique field. I'm not sure what it is, but there's something in his compositions that I like; they all have prodigious replay value. Here are two of the his greatest tracks:

John Deacon was their secret weapon. He didn't write much, but when he did the songs were perfection. We're talking songs like You're My Best Friend, I Want to Break Free, and Another One Bites The Dust. These aren't just songs, they're massive hits, and correct me if I'm wrong, but Another One Bites the Dust is their most played song on American radio. But what I've liked about John more than anything else was the way he played bass guitar. He didn't always do walking bass lines...if he could find a way to interject a melodic hook with his instrument, he'd go for it. Though he was the quietest member, his presence was truly felt.

I love the bass guitar work at the start of The Millionaire Waltz. It's delightful.

And of course he had a brief, but kick ass bass guitar solo in Liar. F*cking awesome.

This kind of stuff seems to go under the radar, so to all you Queenies here's Brian May's new single...

Also, found this recent video of John Deacon. I feel bad for the guy. :(

Some people in the comments are saying it's from 2002, but it could still count as the last footage of him. I don't know where he is but I hope he's doing well. I've read that Freddie and him were close (correct me if I'm wrong), I know the death really hit him hard.

One comment just speaks for me greatly: "I feel like I'm intruding just watching this"

I wish Queen + Adam Lambert would come back to the states. I saw them twice...first at Madison Square Garden and then I followed them to Washington D.C. The show was magical...I literally cried at the opening of Now I'm Here in Madison Square Garden.

Not my video...but this is the first time I saw the band live.

Anyway, here's a recent interview with the band...they're looking good.

I would have loved to see Q + AL but I never bothered to check how much the tickets were for when they were in MSG. Fans seem to love the group lately, though, which is awesome! I still see a lot of people in Facebook comments saying "YOU CAN'T REPLACE FREDDIE!!!".. that's not even what they're trying to do!

Did anybody watch the Billboard Music Awards last night? Céline Dion preformed The Show Must Go On.. I thought it was great. It was a very emotional performance. It's such a shame Freddie couldn't perform it live.

Link to the video here. Starts at about the 1:30 mark.

I didn't watch it last night. Thanks for sharing, Alchemist. That was a pretty cool arrangement, and of course top notch vocals from Celine Dion. I wouldn't expect anything less. ;)

Also, fantastic violin solo.
