I always thought San Fierro would be a great choice as the next city, but since Watch Dogs 2 (coming out this month) is set in a highly-detailed SF it doesn't seem likely.

My idea: Do Vice City, Seattle and Vancouver. But don't make Vice City on the same 'island' as Seattle and Vancouver. You must buy airplane tickets to get from the Northwest to Vice City and vice versa. Seattle and Vancouver should be separated by countryside, mountains, lakes and a national park.

I voted Vice City. I would be interested in seeing how a city based on Miami, Florida has developed in last 30 years. Maybe we shall get to see surroynding map areas too.

I would like to see a new city, but the problem is that the cities R* has always chosen are ICONIC cities, with many recognizable landmarks. I understand why this is necessary...people don't want to pay $60 to drive around a fictional version of Des Moines, IA...not as many people, anyway. But what new city is still available? IMO, they already did the top 4 in the country: NYC, LA, SF, & LV. Miami really isn't even remotely as recognizable as those 4...it just happened to be a perfect fit for Vice City's 80's setting...take away the neon 80's and you just have another city on the water, like Tampa Bay or San Diego or Virginia Beach.

So, what's left? Chicago? New Orleans? St. Louis? Nashville? Detroit? Philadelphia? Again't, I think it has to have many, many recognisable landmarks, both natural and man-made.

Maybe if Ubisoft is moving from Chicago to San Francisco, R* should move to Chicago. This would also establish an additional city to put them a step closer to the goal Zelnick mentioned of having an entire GTA America or GTA world.

I'm hoping for Chicago, I guess. Could even be set in the gangster era...Capone, etc.

I live in a small town near st Louis just over 1,000 people so it would be a pretty big deal to have a GTA game in St Louis

I would love for them to do a southern GTA.

A kind of Texas, American South, and Mexico GTA.

That said, I will be shocked if it's not Liberty City or Vice City, especially Liberty City.

Well, I don't think we'll be going back to Liberty City quite so soon. And nor do I think that they should. It's too soon.

Vice City is a decent option, especially if they throw in the whole of Southern Florida including the Keys, The Everglades, etc. And because the drug trade is still prevalent in the area perhaps even include some islands of the Caribbean from which drugs can be smuggled. Somehow, I can't see them doing another period piece in the '80s, so we're probably looking at a modern day setting. But you never know, what would a GTA:VC reimagining look like in the current HD universe?

San Fierro. There are two ways they could do San Fierro. One is to use a northern California setting with San Fierro as the main city just as they did with GTA:V with LS in SoCal. The second way to do it is to take the existing GTA:V map and expand it to include San Fierro and a whole bunch more countryside to explore. Either way they have scope to include the wider bay area and head East to include Yosemite. I think this idea has merit, but the one thing that might let it down is being too similar to GTA:V.

Las Venturas. The other option is to head East to Las Venturas, either as it's own setting or expanded from GTA:V's map. Out here we'd have desert and canyon country. And the potential to have a Las Vegas based city stand on it's own.

Somewhere new. Stretch GTA's legs. But keep in in the U.S.

I am a proponent of the rust belt idea. Parody Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland; that whole area. Plus being set in a more northerly location, we could be looking at seasonal weather. Yes, snow. For me this entire MidWest setting would be superb simply because it's the road less traveled.

I agree mostly with the post above.

A new city would be exciting. Preferably a city that hasn't had open-world treatment yet like Mafia did with New Orleans.

We havent had a new city since San Andreas. I love Los Santos and of course Rockstar's reimagination of the city was done well (could be improved in some areas) but they're fantastic at making cities, I would say the best in the industry but i'm kind of seeing the same things in multiple games be it playing San Andreas, Midnight Club, L.A. Noire or GTA V, im bloody crossing that old bridge that goes over the aquaducts in 4 Rockstar developed/published games since 2004. Im looking at the observatory, downtown, the boulavard and the pier.. Im done with L.A for a long, long time.

I think GTAs were "fresher" back in the 3D era because not only was free-roaming around a city like that a really brand new gaming experience but most of us werent worn out with the city we were in. The cities were recognisable from movies (enough to keep us enticed) but the exploration was new and exciting.

Exploring Los Santos again would just be like exploring your ex girlfriend when she's 45 and been around the block. You've seen the sights all ready except its little bit tired looking and familiar.

San Andreas brought us 3 new cities in 3D way. Thats amazing really. We havent come close to anything like that ever since. Be it in GTA or any other game.

My GTA wet dream is a GTA with 3 cities again. If they're new, even better. 1 character too.

If Los Santos is your ex-girlfriend at 45, Liberty City is a chain-smoking old whore in her 60s, lol.

I get why they used it so much, being an analog of New York that's so iconic and all, but I don't think we're ready for another game set there for a LOOOONG time, lol.

Haha true that. 😅

New York for me is a whole other beast. I just love that city. Especially as its so dense, so vertical and so diverse, so cultural and so old. Yeah theres more life in her yet.. but yeah not for this generation and possibly next generation.

Everyone wants Vice City, but I'd love Capitol City. I live in Maryland in real life, and I was previously a DC resident. The similarities would be great! It's the reason I loved Fallout 3 so much. Plus, imagine stealing a plane from Dulles! Or trying to break into the white house! I at least hope they include some of Maryland and Virginia.

I think they should no longer make gta cities based on the real-life cities, instead they would make fictional cities, more modern, more peds & cars, more places to fit anyone's explorations... but still keep the current present time or past time atmosphere - these cities will be the mixtures of all & many varieties!

Chicago city ! Must be.

Dare I say 1940's Chicago? Or should I go back to Mafia?

I can see why you think that, but for me 1930's/1940's Chicago is a step too far back in time for GTA. If would need to be it's own franchise altogether. Unfortunately, it does look like Mafia got there first. But Rockstar would have done it better.

I'd rather have a new setting to expand the GTA world, rather than just sticking to the usual LC-VC-SA trinity. Think now would be a good time to further establish the Midwest in the GTA world, maybe using Chicago/Detroit, along with its surrounding areas. Hell, maybe even expand on The Yanktons. But knowing the usual pattern, Vice City is likely to be next, even more so with a lot of the fanbase begging for it.

Side note: Funny how every established GTA location is listed in the poll, except for Alderney. The hate is real.

I feel they'll do this in case R* opts for Carcer City.

The American Rust Belt offers so many different great locations, both urban and rural, that it could be amazing seeing R* being incluenced by them all while creating a brand new and unique map. Not something based on 1 city alone, but a mash up.

I'm gonna start off and say I really do want to see a rendition of all the 3D era games at one point and I personally think Vice City will be the next main location with new characters and all.

But, with that being said, I really want to see a prequel of V set in North Yankton pretty soon. The Midwest is one of the only areas in the United States that hasn't been completely played out in open world games besides maybe the deep south, with the exception of Mafia 3. We just saw San Francisco in Watch Dogs 2. And Chicago was just terrible in the first one. (I live in Milwaukee so I've made a few trips to Chicago in my life.)

What I'm saying, is we've all seen California and New York too many times. And none of us has explored the Midwest (Ludendorff) without the use of glitches or mods.

I've read rumors that say that there are budget concerns on the gta 6 team so this would be a good way to circumvent that. We already have a full city of Ludendorff, North Yankton (Fargo). So all they would need to do is update the textures and add more areas of the map so there is a sizeable location.

Ideally, story wise, I would like to see the climax be where the botched bank job is, where michael fakes his death, and Trevor escapes, with a few more missions after tying up loose ends in the story.

I would like to see why michael wanted to get out of the heisting business. How he got tied up with the FIB. Why Michael's and Trevor's friendship got so strained to the point where they almost kill each other. Why michael never liked brad and more about Trevor's friendship with brad. I would like to see how Trevor became the meth-addled psychopath he is today. I would like to see how michael met Amanda, and more about her past,(we know she was a stripper and lived in a trailer park) and how their marriage and family became so dysfunctional and why they moved to Los Santos. I would like to see how Trevor also made his way into Blaine county, reuniting the duo by pure chance it seems.

I would like to see the seasons change as the story progresses. I would like to see more fleshed out, living rural areas. I would like to see multiple cities of a more modest size(bigger than sandy shores or Grapeseed but smaller than LS or LC). Cities with populations less than 1 million but more like a couple hundred thousand. A few of those and lots of small villages with a lot of farm areas, forests, and countryside housing in between because that's what the Midwest is.

And that has never been done in a game before.

We technically have seen and played in the mid west if you played red dead redemtion which I am pretty sure that red dead and gta and in the same universe but different time periods obviously.I would love a gta USA map but I feel like that would be like one of the last gta's because gta wouldn't have anymore cities to do unless they redo the USA which wouldn't make it as special if it was just from the last map. I do like your idea though on getting a different location instead of typical LS LC VC SF and LV and the seasons changing would make the game feel more dynamic and like real life. Also natural disaters could make it seem more real but in certain areas. Like how LS would have more earthquakes than LC and VC would have more hurricanes than LS. Also if they do storymode for the next gta 6 I wanna see their buildings that were being constructed actually being built overtime. I thought the Mile High tower would have been finished and gone with the story but it didn't which is a let down to me. Also I like gta 5 but they need to get some gta 4 physics back bc gta 5 is so unrealistic when it comes to physics like shooting some one in the leg they would bee injured and try to slowly get away in gta 4. But in gta 5 they run like nothing hit them. I feel like they should take lessons on how previous gtas did good on to improve gta 6

Hopefully it's Vice City, with a parody of most of south Florida. Miami, the Everglades, and the Keys. Maybe the MC could be an illegal Cuban immigrant who fled to escape military coups in the communist regime. Even include Havana as part of the map that you have to fly to for a few missions like LC in San Andreas and North Yankton in 5.

A modern San Fierro that parodies NoCal could also be interesting, if it deals with things like human and drugs trafficking.

Las Venturas if it deals with government corruption and how casinos basically steal from the poor. (And they could include Area 51 and government black projects or even aliens)

Hopefully it isn't Liberty City again. But if they do go back (which they will eventually), they could explore a time period they haven't yet. The 1970s. 70s NYC on the surface was the capitol of the world. But just below the surface was a wretched hive of scum and villainy. Massive drug and crime issues. The first real death of the classical 'American dream'.

And besides. Who doesn't like 70s car chases with a funky soundtrack?

Though personally I'd most like to see 60s London again. Just like how New York was the aspiration of the world in the 70s, London was the aspiration of the world in the 1960s. The beginnings of the downfall of the UK into a nanny state, the height of music and culture before environmentalism began to take hold. The first signs of drugs and STDs becoming a problem. The cars, the clothes, the music, the culture.

Maybe they could do full expansion packs based on Liverpool-Manchester area, and either Glasgow or Edinburgh with the Scottish highlands.

KingofVenturas

After playing Watch Dogs 2, I'm kind of hoping it's Las Venturas, San Andreas is the only open world game I remember taking place in Vegas, there have been plenty of others like Rainbow Six Vegas and the Crew, but I want a full open world game set there.

I'd want them to do the whole East Coast: Liberty City to Washington DC to Vice City. IMO, VC alone would be a step down from LS and LC as it's not as iconic. Save the entire San Andreas for VI.

In response to Vercetti's locked topic:

Well, Rockstar research the potential areas. Something which you have seem to forgot to do when considering Miami. I'm not the biggest fan of it going back to Vice City (although I can see many benefits) but you can set a GTA in in pretty much any internationally known cities. For example LA will is scaled down so much and you know the size of Los Santos in V. Now, if you look at a small city like Prague, Czech or Dublin, Ireland, you would have the same size as Liberty in IV or LS in V or even bigger but less scaling down because they're all ready smallish.

Applying this logic to physical things to do in the game would also apply. Also, as much as LS looks great being based on Los Angeles and surrounding areas, you know Rockstar took huge artistic licence with the geography to make mountains closer etc. The same can or will be done for a city that doesn't have the natural mountainous areas nearby. If they're not nearby Rockstar just make them nearby, lol. The magic of creating your own worlds! :p

London for me.

Pretty much agree with his stance there on gunplay/violence, but shifting focus somewhat from gunplay would be fine still, as I'd really like great melee. Several decently distinct styles, from more proper ones to stereotypical traveller or hooligan, and lots of more weapons and interactive environments.

Obviously missions inspired by Snatch etc. or expanded from the OG GTA Londons. 60s/70s, yeah, but modern would be okay. The city, some different humour etc. could also be a sort of palate cleanser before returning to the US, which I don't really have a 2nd choice for.

I was thinking about potential locations for the next game like anyone else here probably lol

but is there any location really that can top off GTA V?

I can't think of any other location that can top off what GTA V has in it

if GTA VI were to be set in Vice City, obviously Rockstar would make it much bigger than what it was in the 3D universe but I feel like they would need to add a whole different area than just making Vice City, 2-3x the size of what it originally was.

Florida is pretty plain so there isn't much stuff to do there like there is in California where you have a desert and mountains.

what comes to your mind when you think Vice City or Miami?

consider this if Vice City is the location for GTA VI;

GTA V players: "lets go off roading on a mountain then go to the desert catch the train back to the city and head towards the airport"

GTA VI players: "lets go to the beach"

I am not against Vice City at all, but this made me think if Vice City really was the next location.

I'm open to anything really, though I would prefer to see a brand new location, but I wouldn't lose sleep if we got an already established city, Vice City, San Fierro or Las Venturas are all good by me. Still, I think it would be a good move for R* to go somewhere new and show that there is a world outside the five cities we have gotten so far.
