[RDR SPOILER] Dog from Dom's mission arc.

So yesterday I finished playing the main storyline for RDR, heartbreaking sh*t. I couldn't help noticing how lucky little Rufus was. By the end he might not be dead (there would be a grave right besides Uncle's). He might have died sometime during the 1920s.

I haven't played this mission arc in a long time, but I couldn't help noticing that the talking dog (which I know is a Lassie reference) was a Labrador. Could it be Rufus's ghost?

Maybe it is, there's a few Rdr references in V as I remember.

Also give me a Rdr 2 pls :r*:

HOW'S ANNIE?

It might sound like a weird theory, but if RDR and GTA are in the same universe could it possibly be that the dog and the man from the "I Know You" arc are the same entity? I mean they both come to the, less than moral, protagonist with the intention of them helping someone in need (the big difference is that Dom was an idiot and some from RDR were actually moral peoeple). And to top it off they are both only seen by that protagonist and nobody else.

Or maybe Franklin's just developed schizophrenia from his weed smoking? Who knows...

I never played RDR, but I plan on buying it this fall, but I can say for one thing for sure about the dog: It's weird. It's either the dog in RDR somehow, a ghost dog or, what I thought when I first experienced the cutscene with the dog in it, a sign. Like a miracle sign or something. Perhaps for Franklin to get Dom out of the tree and maybe Franklin's encounter with Dom and all they went through changed the world somehow in a good way and that was only possible through the dog talking to Franklin. A chain of events, no?

But I can't get how Franklin understands the dog  which gives me a feeling the dog is not of earthly origin.

That dog in V can be one of two things:

1) Similar to the man with the top hat from RDR, something supernatural

or

2) Franklin + drugs = talking dogs

I chalked it up to number 2.

can't a game have a few jokes here and there without a bunch of fedoras thinking it has some deep hidden meaning behind it?

seriously.

I wonder if Dom was related to the guy with the flying machine in RDR.

They have a similar love of gravity.

It's likely it was just a piss take on Franklin smoking so much weed it made him believe/see things that weren't reality. I doubt there was a supernatural meaning behind it like the guy in the top hat from RDR.

I'm certain it was more a reference to Lassie, the greatest Hollywood dog of them all, as well as, y'know, Mr Ed and Skippy the Bush Kangaroo.

Off topic, but, do you know the name of that guy in your sig/avatar? Seriously I see him all the time in those hilarious stock photos, just that face he does, someone must know his name.

You are going too far into this, and jumping to a conclusion... No, its not Rufus' ghost, why would Rufus' ghost randomly appear 100 years later to some random guy in San andreas and show him where Dom is ????? Obviously, its not rufus. Just some random dog.

I don't know his real name, but here, knock yourself out.

He's known as Harold, though. http://www.shutterstock.com/cat.mhtml?models=595771&context_photo=119815924&safesearch=1&prev_sort_method=popular&sort_method=newest&page=1

It might be just a coincidence, but remember that:

1) John Marston and Franklin Clinton are the only 2 R* main protagonists who had a pet.

2) You need to follow both dogs to save someone at some point.

3) Both bark a lot (sh*t example, but it's something I noticed).

Yeah thanks for the news flash: Dogs bark.... -_____-

I thought the second picture was a real dog at first, haha.

But I don't think there's any relation between them, to be honest, other than breed.

Chop > Rufus

Chop can't track animals for the player to hunt, now can he? :p

It wouldn't be called Rdr 2, it would be called "Read Dead ___". There have been Red Dead Revolver and Read Dead Redemption so far so let's just hope for a third in the series.

Cutter De Blanc

Frank is like motherf*ckin' Dr. Dolittle. He chats it up with animals. Talks to chop and the other dog, and when you hit animals with him, he usually addresses the animals directly.

Also when Franklin catches the last "big foot", which is an obvious reference to RDR UN's Big Foot side mission, the guy in the costume starts barking just like that strange dog does. It made me think that there in fact may be a stronger connection between GTA's and RDR's universe. I belive the dog is some kind of an equivalent of the "I know you" guy.

However. RDR and GTA can't be in the same universe considering that both New York and California are mentoined in RDR- San Andreas and Liberty City respectively are GTA's equivalent of those. It's surely just a gag by R*

Well, Miami is in the GTA 3 universe (not sure about the HD) and Vice City is located in the state of Florida. Also songs in both IV and V mention New York and California.

Good points, but Miami just appeared in GTA 3 ... Vice City didn't exist at that time.
Also I think the songs don't matter actually ... they're just a "cosmetic effect" they have no meaning in the GTA universe.

I haven't played RDR in awhile... definitely need to again. The scenery is fantastic, especially during a sunset or full moon.
