The reason GTA SA's storyline was weak

I find it extremely odd that some guys constantly bitch about how the storyline seems badly connected, INSANE, UNREALISTIC and whatever, but even after 10 YEARS they still don't realize that some missions are COMPLETELY OPTIONAL to the MAIN STORYLINE!!

Some missions are not necessary to progress the storyline.

- Wang Cars missions

- Zero's missions

- The Truth's desert missions, yea SUCK that :p

- Toreno's desert missions (after finishing pilot school), and

- Woozie's Caligula's casino robbery missions.

Thanks for the old silly "advice". I knew all this even before I knew internet was a thing. Next time give this 'piece of advice' to people who are actually new to the series, not me. I do know the difference between main missions and Side Missions not-so-thank you very much.

I see you have put up some very interesting points SuperGTFan. I think GTA SA deserved sort of a prequel or story mode continued in the format of "San Andreas stories".

Now here I "kinda" rightfully disagree. I BELIEVE I heard that Rockstar made the Introduction cutscene with the Special Edition copy as a replacement of all that. In other words, instead of making a whole new game, they decided to make a bigass cutscene showing whatever happened before SA's timeline and released it with the copies. Don't quote me though, as I heard all this back in 2011.

I02do know the difference between02main missions and02Side Missions

O Really?

Let me QUICKLY quote your earlier post then.

And for the last time, whenever we say "SA's storyline is weak" we're not referring to the missions, SA had the best over-the-top fun missions variety wise alongside V, we're saying that it simply don't make sense. Breaking into a Navy base and stealing a Sea Harrier is kinda normal (CJ went to flight school after all), breaking into the base is normal too (we've seen Trevor do this too), but breaking into a base02AND (there goes the keyword) stealing a JETPACK and somehow knowing how to fly it only to steal some goo is beyond unrealistic. Being unrealistic is something (stealing a Harrier from the Navy, breaking into a military base to steal a military helicopter, slaughtering crackheads etc), and being downright INSANE is something else.

Test Result: An absolute LIER detected!!!

Oh! And "breaking into the base is normal too (we've seen Trevor do this too)"

So, just because Trevor did its NORMAL for CJ ( for a 2004 game ) to do???

Did GTA SA release first or GTA V??

Man, you have yet to post something that makes sense.

Anyone think it would have been more suitable for Kendle to be a gangster like her two brothers and Cesar ?

Even my friend's 5 years old sister can understand. Seriously.

Dude my post has nothing to do whether or not the mission is part of the main missions or not. I simply said that stealing Jetpacks took the word "unrealistic" to another level.

Seriously, if you can't understand, then you'll never understand at all.

EDIT: And apparently you can't read at all. I didn't say "breaking into a military base is totally out of place for CJ", I said "breaking inside an army base AND STEALING A JETPACK is totally out of place".

Still can't understand? I'll rephrase myself in Arabic. Good luck with Google Translator.

According to OP - 02"I just felt that the game's storyline wasn't cohesive at all"

He too mentions about the jetpack.

So, what part of the storyline are you exactly referring to?

This topic addresses the main plot, which I have already proved has nothing to do with your actual criticism.

The entire plot don't make sense. I know I know, GTA games shouldn't be realistic (even IV isn't realistic), but I didn't understand one thing when I was playing SA.

Firstly we start with an ex-gangster who wants to see his mother's funeral, 3 in-game weeks later we see the same gangster stealing Harriers and flying Jetpacks and owning casino sticks. Only for the SAME guy to leave all this and return to the "poor" ghetto life just because his brother say so.

I know, the game wasn't focused on story at all (my all time favorite game is like 99% gameplay 1% story), but still.

You make it sound like a bad thing , that IV realistic thing ....

Another problem with the story is that Woozie role was pretty much over after CJ reclaiming Madd Dogg's mansion .

He should had supported The Johnson's Brothers during End Of The Line .

Here's what irks me the most: Smoke gets a dramatic cutscene and conversation with CJ before his death but Ryder didn't. wat.

No cutscene, no talk between the two, then after some missions we see CJ looks sad about his CHILDHOOD FRIEND only for him to forget everything and act like nothing happened when Cesar came by stating that "he was gonna bang his sister". Again, lulwot.

Well he did help them get Madd Dogg`s mansion back, I thought that was a huge f*cking favor with the triads jumping out of the plane and getting slaughtered / heads blown off and sh*t. I`d say that was helping CJ enough that time, it`s not like them two are brothers or anything that Woozie should always hold CJ`s hand. Besides, CJ wanted to be the one to settle the score with Smoke and Tenpenny because it was personal. There are so many movies where Silvester Stalone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jet Lee, Jackie Chan, Chuck Norris, Clint Eastwood, Steven Seagal, Jean-Claude Van Damme and countless others single handedly beat hundreds of opponents in an epic showdown at the end of their countless movies, before defeating the final boss / main antagonist. Why should it be so unimaginable that you`d do something like that in a video game?

In all my years of reading dumb comments on the internet I still get surprised with the level of nonsense that this thread keeps producing.

Yes, you are trolling. You are ignoring all the earlier posts from fellow SA fans that explains all your criticisms but you are just repeating same things again, and again, acting like "I don't want to read any explanations or arguments. Story sucks. That's all!"

Dude, go through the thread again and give it a try, you will catch some sense instead of getting tensed over the story.

How in any f*cking way was I "nitpicking?" All I said was that I enjoy playing SA, but the storyline was weak. That in no way is "nitpicking", as you call it.

I'll tell you.

You mention the jetpack mission as a flaw of the story.

It's not a flaw. How?

Let's see. In the cutsecene, the dialogue goes like this:

CJ: "Hey Truth, do we have a plan here?"

The Truth:"Go, go, go!"

This makes it clear that R* made this mission just for the sake of the jetpack. They didn't even bother to make it a bit realistic(for example CJ and Truth making a plan). They just put in the mission thinking it'll be a nice surprise since Area 69 was mysterious and a parody of Area 51.

The mission has no effect on the storyline and CJ's character.

Also, pretty ironic you call me an idiot for mentioning another post when that's exactly what you did in your original post. Irony just reflected back on you. Hurts, doesn't it?

No, I called you an idiot for mentioning a post in some other forum(you didn't even mention which forum). You expect me to keep track of your posts 24/7?

I mentioned your activities in the VC section because you're a regular there.

Amazing how I point out a few flaws and you assume that I speak negatively about the game.

Because some of your flaws aren't flaws. You expected the story to be about gangs only. How the hell can you expect that with three cities?

Another reason why the story appears weak to you is that SA was supposed to have three protags. Due to tech limitations, that couldn't happen.

Now R* had two choices:

1. Cut out many features from the cities, cut out many missions and characters and end up with a short story.

2. Keep the cities and their features, put in some over the top fun missions, keep the characters and craft the story like a big adventure all over the state.

Needless to say, the first option would have resulted in a short story stretched out over three cities. Possibly many features would have been cut.

So they went for the second one. Sure, some over the top missions. But the amazing cast of characters and a brilliant antagonist coupled with an epic wrap up makes it a highly memorable story.

So no, the story isn't weak. It's got the best antagonist in the series, it's got charming characters, it's got emotion. The disconnected feel is present at some points, but the bigger picture is awesome.

Why are you still sustaining this pointless argument? You're just finding more ways to completely stomp on my throat with more futile tirades just because you got s different opinion than mine. You obviously misconstrued my points.

Why should I troll my second favorite PS2 game's forum?

And how's voicing my f*cking opinion about the story makes me a f*cking troll?

What next? I'm a terrorist because I'm Muslim? I'm a loser because I hate math? I'm racist because I hate CJ?

I'm pretty damn sure I just replied to SuperGTFan not a few posts ago. And how's that trolling? Last I checked, if I was really trolling then I would act like this:

But you don't see me acting like that. Actually if somebody decided to attack on anyone in this thread I'll actually stand up with them if they were nice. You try attacking lil Weasel, bad idea.
