Won't load past Story Mode loading screen

I'm trying to help my cousin make a GTA Online account and before you can do that, you have to complete the single player tutorial. But when the loading screen comes up showin the pictures of the characters, it'll say "Story mode" at the bottom right with the spinning circle and the music will play, but it doesn't load past that. It stays on that screen. It isn't a corrupted file because my cousin hasn't ever played offline... Any suggestions??

Might be a problem with the disc.

If it's a seperate console don't forget you have to install it using the first disc.

I'm on ps3 so only one disc. I checked it, but no scratches that worried me. Mostly thin, small ones from being played a lot by me but that's it..

If it's getting stuck at the same point then it's a disc problem it happened to me after playing for a few months I started story mode again and it would always get stuck on the second mission just as franklin and lamar get to the end of the alleyway but there weren't any noticeable scratches on the disc either.

I took it to Game and they repaired the disc for £3 and it's worked fine since then.

I got it working! Just breathed on my dis and wiped it clean. Thanks BaRe for the suggestion though man.
