Also... interesting read on bias against left-handers throughout the ages in language etc.... for example:

Lefty here!

Cool topic man.. totally didn't know all of them facts. I can dig the multi-tasking, creative deal. I've always had an act for it.. so guess that's true. One bad thing about being a lefty though, some things are hard to come by, left-handed guitars (normally have to order them), I've yet to go into a guitar shop or music store and see a lefty on the wall or in a case. Same for baseball gloves.. sucks.

I once met a guy who played right-handed upside down and he never reversed the strings like Hendrix did. He just learned all the chords upside down and he was decent.

I find myself using both hands ambidextrously although I'd really only write with my left.

The mirror effect and perception thing is probably how I was able to learn cycling backwards really easily. I pretty much got it first time.

I'm right handed (in other words normal), but my brother is a lefty and I didn't even know this day existed until now (I'm sure he doesn't know about this either). Gonna call him right now to wish him a happy lefty day just for sh*ts and giggles.

Yeah, when I first started playing guitar, I bought my brother's right-handed one, he ended up giving up on guitar period and I learned to play a bit of chords upside down.. then eventually moved on to a left-handed one once my parents finally bought for me ages ago.. it was pretty neat. I was able to visit friends houses and they'd have a right-handed guitar and I was able to play some things and they were like HOLY HELL! Cool to amaze some people like that.

As far as the ambidextrous thing, I could never do that much.. I can throw pretty decent right handed but everything else, I just suck. I was able to forge my dad's signature though, nailed that sh*t right-handed.. but after getting caught doing it once, never did it again.

I'm the only lefty in my entire family though, how about that man.. though my 3yr old may be a lefty too, he plays with left hand all the time, with his toys.. he uses his left primarily on his touch pad game thingy.. so I'm hoping!

All my life I used to think that I was left-handed, until I learned about cross-dominance. I write with my left hand, I draw figures facing right like a leftie would, I play the guitar like a leftie would, but I only do those things because I tend to hold things with my left hand. When it comes to throwing things, I use my right hand exclusively. I couldn't throw a rock with my left hand accurately if my life depended on it. Darts too. And I hold the bow with my left hand which is how right-handed people use the bow and arrow. So, I guess I'm truly cross-dominant. I used to be clumsy too as a kid. Another cross-dominant handicap. I swear, there are no benefits to being cross-dominant.

I don't even know what I am. I do everything entirely right-sided; kick a ball with my right foot, bat with my right hand but I write with my left hand.

What even am I?

Happy southpaw day!

I'm not purely left handed, but an other cross dominant. Why don't we get a day?

Not a lefty myself, but I use the mouse on my laptop with my left hand when browsing the webs 'n' stuff -

and have pretty much grown into it. :p

edit: also use my left hand as much as possible for daily chores, such as cooking.

Same guitar problem here. I'll go to guitar center. They'll have 800 right handed guitars, maybe one ugly used lefty. I pretty much have only bought guitars online. When I was a kid that wasn't an option so I had to go to a bunch of stores and had to take whatever they had.

I also throw righty, kick righty, punch with right hand mainly, masturbate righty...

But writing and guitar are the important things in life. So lefty pride.

My brother is a southpaw/lefthander/mutantfreak and he learned to play guitar right-handed. Instead of pulling a Hendrix and turning it upside down. Playing lefty freaks him out.

Signatures are dumb anyway.

My mum and dad are both right handed, but my sister and I are both left-handed. Weird that.

Also the idea that left-handed people on average live 9 years less than right-handed people is a common misconception. I can't be arsed to explain it, so here's a handy link.
