Manual shifting on cars?

I picked up on a bit of a conversation between a few guys in a public lobby, one guy was teaching the other about shifting manually in cars. All I could pick up on was being able to beat cars that are faster than yours using this. Does anybody know if this is true?

No, they're making sh*t up, but it's based on a true story.

With many of the RWD models, there is a trick to use the hand brake to lose traction and the game gives you a bit of a boost.

It does make a difference, but I can't be bothered personally. It's not manual shifting, you're just manipulating an unrealistic game :p

edit: other people beat me to it, but yeah, watch the videos and if you like it remember to Like, Subscribe, and Share! :p

if actual, proper manual gear shifts were a thing in this game, the already terrible majority of racers would become even worse.

And I will become an absolute god in sedan class racing.

I wish more people would race classes like these.

Super gets rather dull when it's the only thing you race.

People just don't like to lose.

Currently I'm on a 17 race win streak in just sedans.

How the hell did you get into 17 lobbies that don't have supers as the class?

Just some sly trickery.

Simply switch it to sedans at the last possible second, and race the poor saps in my FM'd sedans.

Dick move, but so were the forced catch-up races I was stuck in for months.

Manual shifting.. I don't mind this. Just restrict it for racing. I'm okay with manual shifts, especially in GT5.. with a damn controller lol

DO IT! Supers should be in manual too. Watch the 12 year old nubcakes in the Zentornos drive no more than 5 MPH while I do a drive by in my Zenporno on them. It'll teach them to drive something else than supers.

I found doing the manual shifting boost trick with the Alpha amusing.

I keep thinking about this song whenever someone mentions the boost trick.

Damn. Nice ride IMO. Chrome car that looks fairly good (sorry haters). Now drive that through downtown LS at night with the city lights shining upon your car. Wear a black leather jacket and shades while rolling that night core. Badass over here.

I didn't know you could change gear manually in a gta v car. I wounder if the cars engine will blow if you keep it in first.

I know your on about the Stratum, just get yourself a variety of sedans for races, one for Top speed, Stratum for short courses etc. Easy

In addition, I couldn't count my streak of wins with Sedans, it's rediculous..

probibly just me, but i do not like it when people call forced shifting "manual shifting". using the E-brake to force shift is really more like using the kickdown (aka, passing gear) in an automatic.

I've been doing this in racing games since Gran Turismo 1.

Helps keep your rpm in the sweet range while exiting corners.

Until catch up kicks in and you are automatically downshifted.

By the way, this 'Double-clutching' will only work with cars which have large amounts of torque that peak at high RPMs, so cars with low amounts of power (and to some degree, therefore torque), no matter the acceleration, will not benefit from this. In layman's terms, only cars which produce tyre marks from E-braking can get this to work.
