Has anyone just ditched public lobbies for invite only or crew only?

"Has anyone just ditched public lobbies for invite only or crew only?"

No. No, I haven't.

I'm not even in a crew.

Yep, Invite-Only Sessions are a wonderful thing. If GTA Online wasn't built up to be so financially involved and more laid back like GTA IV's MP was (remove paying for insurance, make ammo less expensive, etc.), or if the general playerbase was a little less trigger-happy, then I would probably play in public sessions most of the time.

For me, the fun IS the chaos. I don't do invite onlys ever. I go into public to kill and be killed, to bounty and be bountied, and, my new favorite hobby, putting ignition bombs in hpvs.

Don't understand the fun behind godmode. It's way more fun (and tense) if you can actually be killed. Cat and mouse sniper games, foot soldier roll seshes...

Man I love this game.

Edit: I actually met most of my gta online friends this way. We'd have an epic back and forth kill sesh Zhen I'd message them something like "well played bruv!" And then they'll send me a friend request.

Then we go throughout the map mercing together!

I got into the habit of playing in Invite-Only Sessions well before the hackers came in. Public Freemode lobbies have been a joke since October 1st.

This. I've been invite-only since the second or third week online launched. I only do public once in a great while for some variety.

theres nothing left to do.

I cannot understand this part. What does it mean? Clearly there is lots and lots of stuff to do. Perhaps you meant to say, "I'm bored of doing the stuff I used to like and I don't feel like trying anything else."

I ditched PL for IO when I first realized PL was just a bunch of CoD nutbags that just shoot on sight.

Which was like 1 week into October...

Yeah been doing that since Day 1. Closed invite only lobbys with some friends as the way for me. People in public lobbies are ***holes.

I've been playing in an invite only session for 5 monthes ago.

Simply put:

- play without annoyances

- play how I want, what I want and with whom I want

- no modded lobbies glitcheser and hackers

Public sessions are fine. All of you are over reacting. I find that if you go looking for trouble, trouble will find you. I haven't been killed in a public lobby for probably 2 weeks. I don't go to the downtown LSC, don't go to Legion Square (cause there is nothing to do there anyway), and I don't hang out in the wall breach places. The map is huge, why hang out where everyone else is?

Looking for trouble? Isn't that what the bounty system is all about? If someone has a bounty, the design of the system is for people to go and chase that person to kill them. But when some f*cktard glitches into godmode, and breaks that gameplay, how is it our fault for "looking for trouble"? That makes absolutely no sense.

I stopped doing bounties around the time billion dollar bounties showed up. Also can't be bothered to chase someone around the map for a measly $9000. Sell a Baller for less effort and same money.

As to your point: If you know that god mode players intentionally get bounties so you chase them then why would you chase someone with a bounty? That's looking for trouble.

I like to try and get the HPV to the docks in Public freeroam. Without a scratch is best but just getting it there in a full lobby is a nice challenge.

Whatever I'm doing in free roam, I like having it populated by others. I enjoy hearing bombs go off while I'm sipping on wine in my apartment. I like knowing that every time I step foot into free roam that I have to stay on my toes. If a bunch of red dots are blocking an entrance to LSC or a clothing store, I learn to pre-plan my routes when I plan to avoid fighting.

It keeps you on edge. It keeps things interesting. It's what GTA is suppose to be, completely unbounded by rules and laws. You don't come home from school or work and pop in GTA to continue to obey - that rhymes - you play it to break free, kill, commit burglary, steal cars, risk your life, etc.

So, other than playing exclusively with a group of friends, why would I play in an Invite Only? That's what games like the Sims, Farming Simulator and Goat Simulator are for... go play those if you want to play nice. BAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH

I always start out in Invite Only. I'll boost a Baller right away if they are spawned or make a quick sweep through gang territory for a Peyote or Tornado if its night time. Fill my snacks and armor stacks. Do a Simeon's List car or HPV if its up. Hit an armored truck or rob a store. Then I start spamming random Contact Missions.

IF by some chance I'm thrust into a public lobby (which seems to happen frequently and for no reason when I leave a Job Voting lobby) I'll hang in there for a while if it seems legit and not hacked up. Take a bounty or two, kill some idlers who don't know better than to just stand in the middle of the street, hit a Lester target or grab the HPV, chase people around in a Buzzard. Sometimes people will be doing something fun like the Tattoo shop door glitch launching each other in the Stretch. Sometimes it can be fun.

If the lobby is going mod crazy I just switch to Trevor to see if he is doing anything funny then go right back into Invite Only.

do you have a link for how to do this? sounds cool.

I enjoy public lobbies sometimes, but stay away depending on how bad the current forecast for glitching/modding/hacking is. I gauge the weather in part by checking the forums.

I never really went into public lobbies in general. I can only imagine what's going on at Rockstar Headquarters.

Are you being serious? How do you know they're in God mode until you unload on them and they don't die? Is that really that hard for you to put together logically?

love these people saying they've been playing invite only since oct 1st because public lobbies are full of idiots. how do they possibly know this given they have no experience of public lobbies?!

Khelandros & a few others are correct.

having lurked here since oct last yr i have to say the hysteria in this place really does not match up to what goes on online.

you'd think the public lobbies were destroyed by glitchers/cheaters/modders/etc when in reality that stuff happens on a miniscule level. it's such a small percentage. but reading stuff on here no wonder some people get scared off playing the game. the amount of scaremongering & pussyfooting about is frankly preposterous.

e.g. i only encountered my first ufo & boulders last week. there's been a few godmode glitchers here & there but, honestly, most lobbies i've been in the past two weeks have not had them.

the stuff you read on here you'd think the majority of people are d1ckheads & the only decent people are the one's who post here. the emphasis on this board is askew.

gauging what's happening on public lobbies by reading this forum is a bad idea. it does not give an accurate indicator of what's happening in-game. which is surprising really 'cause you'd hope the community would keep a handle on things. i mean this board does a lot of good, highlight stuff. but a lot of people get carried away with the scaremongering & the i'm not playing til this epidemic is over type guff. it gets to the stage where people don't even play, they just echo what they've heard/read rather than experience it for themselves.

& i've played invite/solo sessions - when i was grinding for a few awards. i haven't gone back to invite only sessions since the money wipe. public is far mor fun, for reasons outlined by krossed sabres & others. this notion of doing stuff in invite only like selling cars - big deal if you get blown up trying to sell a baller or get a hair cut ffs!

I've stuck with invite only. The last time I was in a public lobby, some jack ass kept killing me in passive mode. Probably would have blown up my car if I could make it to it. I still get the odd door knob when I'm doing a mission but,I school them very quickly. Most people that have played say "Rooftop" with me know I could care less about the document (unless you destroy it),just get it to Martin's. I got the merc's. Invite only gives you control.

GamingBunny, let me play with your crew sometime. I'm legit!

I learned too late. Is there a way to just directly go into an Invite only session? Right now I have to wait until it loads into single player, THEN I can select invite only. Is there a better way? I wish you could set a preference or something.

I agree that the forum makes problems sound like they're more common than they actually are. I didn't encounter the money gifts/bounties or ufos/meteorites until weeks after I started reading about them on here. But you're pretty lucky to have not encountered spawned objects until last week. I attenuate the signal I get from the forum, but it's still a useful signal. And I never stop playing, I just spend less play time in public sessions while problems are at their worst.

Is this any quicker than switching to a different character ( I prefer Trevor) via the wheel then going into invite only?

Following the kill notices and/or asking over game chat can tell you pretty quick if someone is abusing god mode in a session.

It was the first point you made in your original post. You obviously know that this is what god mode players do so why would you chase $9000 bounties?

Yes, some people with bounties have God mode on. How do we know which ones? Are you suggesting that we simply not chase any bounties anymore (g-mode or not) because one could potentially be a glitcher?

I've found it to be approx 30 seconds faster to load to SP and then go to MP
