Well consider this, we had a cash wipe where everyone was reset to $500k unless you already payed for a cash card.

No, that never happened. What R* did was wipe out all modded cash that had been gifted or taken from a hacked Bounty.

As near as I can tell, and this is definitely the case with the two accounts in my house, they wiped out only the gifted billions. All legit cash was left alone, although one other thing that R* did was take out the cost of anything you'd bought with the cash - so, for example, let's say you were gifted 100m and spend 2m of it on cars. After the wipe, you would have lost the 100m - but then the 2m would be taken out of whatever legit cash you had - if you had less than 2m, you were left with a zero balance. Oh, and for those that had received the Stimulus Package in November didn't get that taken away (which is where you might be getting the 'reduced to $500K' idea - a few guys had exactly that happen - so instead of dropping to zero, they dropped to $500K).

And, for the record, LSC-glitched money was untouched. I suspect R* had no way of determining which sales were legit and which ones were glitched.

That's not what happened though. I know that for a fact because my balance didn't change during the wipe and I had not bought a cash card. Mind you, I hadn't received any mod money either.

You are correct sir, I forgot about the legit player. Not many of them stayed true, my mistake and apologies.

Again, another important factor I forgot. But in all honestly, if you were gifted million you probably spent more then the amount of legit cash you had before recieive the dirty money. That was the case I, and many others were in. I really don't know how many people received modded money and didn't spend over your legit cash limit.

Shake 'N Bake, I don't agree with cash cards, however I don't agree with modded money. I believe that mommy in the game should be earned as it does in real life, work. I'm pointing out that cash cards are paying employees at Rockstar, which "gives" them motivation to make GTA Online better. Keep the discussion civil.

That's the whole problem tho.. games are supposed to be fun - work isn't fun, so a game that's work, isn't fun.

Money system should be removed, IMO. I Know it won't happen.

Nope not buying a cash card. I rather grind rr all day and make 3 million in two hrs and that adds up overtime. Plus I'm cheap with my money. If I have to buy ammo I buy it but I'm going to do rr to make up for my purchase.

Ha $20 I can go to Burger King or Wendy's and get lunch with that which is a purchase worth more than a cash card.

Do I feel bad sorta but that's not going to make me buy one unless it's like they are in the state Nintendo is in then I might support.

This game does feel like a second job sometimes but I'm not falling for the shark card bait.

You want my money R* give me something like gay tony then you get my money.

Cash cards are not paying employees. If you wanna get technical, The $2.4 or so BILLION dollars Rockstar has made has tax on it. That mere $800,000 is pennies on what Rockstar owns the IRS for their profit for the game. Again, taking modded money is technically stealing, but if I wasn't going to pay for a cash card in the first place it counters itself into meaning nothing, only time was saved in this instance.

Maybe i am selfish, but me grabbing 47m from hookers, has let me play how i want to play, not min maxing the $ i earn and grinding the same old crap all over, or worrying about what i am spending.

Has made the game alot more fun, at least for me

What the hell are you buying ?? I could go to either of those places and eat 3/4 times with 20$ !!!!!!

For 20$ you could actually get some good food.

True, they just milk the cash out of a child's parents credit card. But the intent of the game, as far as I have experienced, it to have fun in free roam, do some work (grinding), or choose the easy way (cash cards). Now, from the online gameplay trailer, they made it sound like online would be carefree, mich like gta 4. They made it sound like getting money was easy, was that the reality? No, other than for the dead hookers. Sure, you may say it takes a long time to get the money to reward yourself ingame, much like in real life. If Rockstar is trying to make a spinoff of the sims with gta in it, they're doing a great job. However, I see the way money is made, grinding for several hours. It should've been that random missions gave more instead of RR and Coveted.

What you said is true, but that doesn't change the fact that me using modded money isn't hurting Rockstar, or the millions of others at that. In a perfect world where that money had to either come from purchasing cash cards, or grinding, the simple solution would be Cash cards for ease and time saving. But it's not, and the majority of people would rather attempt to get dirty money or work for it through grinding and playing missions rather than buying them.

The point of GTA free-roam is to have fun, but that's not rockstars main objective. Their goal is to make every cent they can out of this game and that means, nerfing missions, raising prices of cars and other things so that your bank out drys out as quick as possible. This is not "dirty business tactics" this is a business capitalizing on the opportunity to make more money.

And that is what leads us to the paradox in this disagreement, are they really losing money if I was never going to purchase it anyway? The correct answer is no, if anything it's probably saving them money because me having more money adds more enjoyment and play ability to the game, where in a year or two I can pick up and keep playing the game. The fact of the matter is, since I can earn money else ways legitimately through online proves that cash cards don't affect a large majority of players. They cater to the "pay to win" players who may not have enough time to earn money else ways, and for that reasons cash cards are a positive thing. But to say Rockstar is loosing money because players who wouldn't have bought a cash card are using illegal money is like saying me taking a detour instead of paying to toll road to get to the same place. In the end, time is all that maters. In this game, and in life.

If you made a lot of money on a project at work, would you start a new one without income? I'd like to see how motivated you would be to complete it. Either way, it's a business. Just because they created a successful product, doesn't mean they will keep releasing new ones monthly and give them away.

Which is why I sold my shares in Take-Two 3 months after the release of GTAV when the share price peaked. Made a cool $900 profit on that, which was good. And then bought them back now as they're at bargain basement prices now.

Considering upgrading online is still part of the process and a major selling point, you better believe they are going to continue to update the piss out of GTA Online for the following months if not years to come. Also its not hard for them to say "alright folks were dropping a giant DLC that will cost X amount of dollars". They will make more off that DLC then they will ALL cash card sales.

Exactly. Believe it or not, last quarter despite the record breaking $2 billion made in sales of GTA and the $800 000 made from Cash Card sales, Rockstar made an overall loss of $150 million.

You definitely don't know how the market works. Rockstar does not report earnings independent of Take Two and Take Two's fiscal 4th quarter for 20q4 was down indeed but that is not reflective of GTA. As the market reflected when shares dropped 6% during Q4 2014, it was a non-peak season. Take Two's profits are always the highest during the holidays and dip to varying degrees in the off season depending on what games are released. Take Two took at hit on 2K's WWE2K14 which under performed on expectations. Overall Take Two was up $2.43 billion for Q4 2014 compared to only $1.21 billion in the same quarter last year.
