So, being one of the several threads about this, and yes, I know there is a topic on the first page, but this is regarding a different part of this, now going back on topic. I heard about this yesterday and remembered the days of the DNS servers, practically ruining the game. Now, I'm studying some buisness stuff in school, I see why it is a very big problem.. Just like all the other companies, Rockstar thrives to earn money. In GTA Online, through cash cards, with various amounts you pay and amounts.you receive. With my theory, I will be basing my calculations on the megalodon cash card, which is the highest priced Shark Card at this moment, costing 100 USD and giving 8 million ingame currency. Let's assume someone gets one billion ingame dollars, as this is a good point to make an estimate(keep in mind, this IS modded money, which goes up rather fast in this scenario). With the megalodon card pricing in mind, with the money you get ingame as well, Rockstar is losing 12,500 USD in possible cash card profits. This probably doesn't mean anything to you, well at least without further details. The whole reason we've been getting free DLC since the beginning of GTA Online is because of that revenue. Your small DLC packs in GTA would cost several dollars/euros. I personally would see this not get patched for awhile, it is Rockstar we're talking about here. But in both their and our best benefit, it would be best if that is their primary focus. If we want free DLC to continue, that's what we need to hope we do.

Exactly. Believe it or not, last quarter despite the record breaking $2 billion made in sales of GTA and the $800 000 made from Cash Card sales, Rockstar made an overall loss of $150 million.

Which is why I sold my shares in Take-Two 3 months after the release of GTAV when the share price peaked. Made a cool $900 profit on that, which was good. And then bought them back now as they're at bargain basement prices now.

Wow 800k is not a lot

This.

Hardly worth offering them if this is all. Would expect a figure closer to 8 million or more which would likely represent enough generated revenue to maintain GTA Online and justify R* keeping this Business model...

Well, this is well thought out, but its irrelevant. The people modding and glitching don't give a f*ck about you or rockstar, or what happens to gta online. They are selfish, entitled f*ck wads, and nothing you say will change their mind or behavior.

Micro transactions are what will kill the video game industry to the point of no one wants to partake in purchasing games that cater to "pay to win" instead of "play to win". Yes, there are benefits of using micro transactions, but the majority of the positives favor the game company. The downsides to Micro transactions are far greater in numbers and in the number of damaging factors they are causing.

Yes, your math is correct, but that $1 BILLION that was "gifted" to me wasn't going to get bought from me, and many others. For everyone to think Rockstar is loosing millions because of modded money is ridiculous. Yes, they are loosing a small percentage of Cash Card purchasers, but that number doesn't even come close to the amount of players who would rather save the $5 bucks and grind for a couple of hours. Modding money is more of a time savor. more than a money savor.

And Free DLC's are not going to become costly because of mods, they are going to begin costing money because they actually will have decent content instead of just a few cars, an apartment and maybe some clothes. Could you imagine the outcry from the community if they charged $20, $10, or even $5 dollars for the beach bum update? And then you have to purchase the items from that update with in game cash? This is just silly..

I do not know everything, but I do know Rockstar ins't hurting the in financial department at the moment. Yes, they would love to see that modded money disappears so the little cash card sales they are getting actually improves, but even if it did, it would only raise a slight bit.

Not A Nice Person

I bought a 20$ kash kard when they were half priced at gamestop, Sorta felt bad.

I completely agree, OP.
It's just that, sadly, modders don't realize or care about things like that.

This is not true. Read comments bellow proving it wrong.

Not losing money they already have, but money they COULD have had.

They technically could have made a lot more money off cash cards if people didn't mod money.

It's a piracy argument for money glitchers.

Although the main message is really "send Rockstar some money so we keep getting free DLC".

The amount lost can never actually be calculated, because nobody would pay for the entire amount they glitched.

e.g. I don't put 100 USD back in my pocket after glitching 8M, but it *may* have stopped me buying a $20 card.

Yes, because the average player that receives modded money was going to buy several thousand dollars worth of cash cards.

Maybe you should find a better business school.

How could Shark Cards ever be considered "hardly worth offering?" It required rockstar zero effort to create them, its direct profit from the lazy gamer. Imagine getting 800k for literally doing nothing, now its a lot.

If a hacker gives me a billion dollars, Rockstar doesn't lose jacksh*t. I don't buy cash cards, because I like to see how much GTA$ I can amass after playing all day. The only people I know that have bought cash cards are people that can only play a couple of hours per week.

I am not against cash cards, I consider them a necessary evil, and anything that makes Rockstar more prosperous means we get more goodies (well, sometimes).

If this turns out to be another Billionaire Madness, those that wish to remain legit can just stuff the modded money in the pocket of their second character and send support a ticket. The rest are going to cry like babies when the money wipe comes, because contrary to what everyone has been saying, only a handful of legit money got swiped during the last money wipe. They left me to the dollar all of my legitimately earned cash. Not to sound preachy and in the hopes to prevent the paranoid "Are they going to do a money wipe/Will we get banned for spending the money" threads, think twice before spending it and especially before relying upon it. Save yourself the headache.

Well consider this, we had a cash wipe where everyone was reset to $500k unless you already payed for a cash card. Now if GTA 5/online has made over $2 billion dollars in copies sold, at $60 dollars a game, that's roughly 33 Million copies of GTA online out there (there are people who own multiple because they own 2 consoles). For them to make only $800k in almost a year of GTA Online being released and after a cash wipe, they aren't earning much money. This proves not many people are buying cash cards and are either, 1. Modding money, or 2. grinding. And you know what? If people couldn't mod money in, I guarantee over 90% of them would just grind instead of purchasing a cash card.

If R* added more content to the DLCs, and charged $5-$10 each, would they have made more than they did in cash card sales?

True. Rockstar have minimum target of Cash Card sales.

To reach that target, they make it hard for us to get money.

Any fanboys still wanna deny the fact they're shoving Cash Cards in our face?

Well apparently over 20 Million people play gta online once within every 3 months and over 15 million at least once a month, It's likely that half of these people would have bought at least one. They beat cash cards sales probably with 1 DLC released at $5.

And you know, that $5 actually bring something to the game other than undervalued money.

Definitely, I like the idea of free DLC's that cost in-game money because you can earn that money online, or you know, spend 5 bucks to get it fast. I imagine when DLC's start costing real money, the value will skyrocket, the amount of content will increase, and the quality of the content will improve, and hopefully everything in the DLC is free because you spent money on it. And if not, it will flop,

That's not what happened though. I know that for a fact because my balance didn't change during the wipe and I had not bought a cash card. Mind you, I hadn't received any mod money either.

Exactly. The only thing that R* are loosing is my time. When i money glitch, i'm gaining GTA$'s and saving my time i would of wasted by farming the same old sh*t if i hadn't money glitched. We've got other games we want to play too and most of us isn't gonna waist three hours playing missions. tbh, R*'s been asking for it after all of the legit money making nerf's they've been doing.
