I'd give it a 8.5/10. Considering its stupid story and inconsistent physics (arcady on driving, realistic on movement, for example). but its technical achievement (dude, it ran on a console from 2005-2006!).

Gotta love that realistic jumping dive maneuver!

 

The poll results seem to be placing it somewhere around the 8-9/10 mark. Overall, I think that's a really impressive score. The handful of <5 scores, I think, are posted by people who are either just trying to skew the overall result, or are trying to make some kind of impotent protest about the game. I really don't feel they're giving an honest score.

 

 

Hey, falling down 3 meters while landing on your head is "realistic", but no, the walking, sprinting, and jumping were pretty realistic though.

 

I simply don't get people who actually voted 10/10. I mean, the game isn't perfect, but hey, its their opinions though.

To be honest I used to be one of one the "Gameplay is far more important" guys but over a period of time I realized a good story is necessary to keep the player playing the game. It doesn't even have to be a masterpiece, just something to keep me going.

 

I still prefer gameplay but only just. But then again I can't stand a game which decides to put full emphasis on the story. (I am looking at you The Walking Dead) and leaves no gaming value to the player.

Quite good, even for a 5 year long development, enjoyed it. Big map and variey in vehicles, weapons and whatnot. I view it independent from separate games, atleast i try to keep past titles irrelevant. However the a.i. is subpar and saving vehicles are hit and miss, and many features that could be helpful are buggy and inconvenient, minor but noticable detriments.

 

why do you 80s and 90s kids like a game having a great storyline? is that a new trend or what? because my grandson is also the same.Games in the late 60s and 70s if i can remember didnt have a goddamn story and we still love them.I am guessing the millenial generations (80s and 90s) are just spoilt.

I don't think story is that important to gameplay, but serve as a backdrop and atmosphere, games have become a wide medium. Also arguable a greater challenge for story writers, as interactivity presents many hurdles to a coherent narrative, granted i've yet to see a game story measure up to books or even movies.

 

That being said i prefer sandbox type gaming, and i feel the gta franchise should lean more towards this, focusing on in game toys, features, atmosphere and design of the sandbox, dynamic enviroments and economy(the definition, not the buzzword), and leave me with creative tools like character creation, then go from rags to riches using my imagination.

It's a truly great game but I don't want to play it constantly like I did Red Dead.

Sssssshhh. Every time someone mentions Red Dead I have to replay it.

lol I was the first to rate it 9.2. I swayed between picking 9.0 or 9.5, but I thought that somewhere in between would be the best, because while it is a really great game, it still has some flaws that would prevent it from being ranked 9.5 or higher in my opinion. Normally I don't like giving abstract scores to games though.

I gave it a 9.8, which is roughly the same as I would have given San Andreas. No GTA game has dropped beneath a 9, in my opinion.

 

Considering I'm still playing the game a year later, and still mesmerized by how "alive" it all feels, I wouldn't consider rating it lower. GTA:O does not achieve the same score from me as I feel that the game mechanic is fundamentally flawed - maybe a low 8 for Online.

Second. I'd rate it 7/10 from what I saw on YouTube and from what I heard here, on GTAForums. For example I saw the map, I saw gameplays so I can rate it already. Just like vehicles, characters and storyline..

9.0 for me only because there were a lot of features not there that were promised. It will have a higher rating when next gen comes out, when ever that is.

I gave it a 9.5/10.But if there's one thing i hate more than anything else in the history of gta games,(I'm looking at you Gta Advance) is the f*cking police!!.1.16 is on the way and i hope to god they have a no wanted level cheat! This would make this game amazing.People might give this game a bad score because they expected it to be a San Andreas 2.0. Those complaining about No hood activity and why it's not a San Andreas 2.0.It's not based on the hood it's based on heists!! How many heist type missions did we see in gta san andreas? The casino heist and 3 small ones with catalina. How many hood missions did Gta V have? Around the same.Sure Franklin doesn't have hood type activities but why would he? He's in the hood but he doesn't like it, He doesn't get paid sh*t. Why would Franklin have drug wars or gang wars if he doesn't like it? Would you see Micheal go hunting? Would you see Trevor go Yoga lol.
